296: Chapter 296 Morgan's CEO Wants to 'Use a Other' to Do His Deeds

At this moment, on the other side of the ocean in the United States, on the 38th floor of the Morgan Building on the west side of Broadway in Midtown Manhattan, New York.

James, the Chairman and CEO of the Morgan Investment Group, was sitting upright behind a large desk, his fountain pen gliding rapidly across documents, creating a faint "rustling" sound.

Standing opposite the desk was a blonde, blue-eyed female secretary in an office suit. She had a graceful figure, held a stack of folders in her arms, and gazed respectfully at James. Every time James finished reviewing a document, the secretary would immediately put it away.

Just then, the phone James had placed on the desk suddenly rang, breaking the silence of the office. His hand paused, his brows furrowed slightly, and a flash of displeasure crossed his eyes.

James turned his head to glance at the caller ID; it was Smith, the Vice President in charge of Asian operations.

James's expression softened slightly, though it remained cold. He put down his fountain pen, picked up the phone, and waved his hand at the female secretary, signaling for her to go out and wait.

Seeing this, the secretary nodded respectfully, turned around, and left the office, her high heels making a faint "clack-clack" sound on the carpet as she walked with a model's gait.

Once the office door was completely closed, James answered the phone, his voice indifferent yet carrying a faint air of authority: "This is James."

On the other end of the line, upon hearing James's voice, Smith immediately stood up from the sofa, leaning forward slightly as if he could feel the other man's oppressive presence even through the phone.

"Chairman, I apologize for calling you at this hour. I hope I haven't disturbed you."

James raised his eyebrows slightly, a flicker of impatience appearing in his eyes: "No need for pleasantries. You should be in the Island Country right now, shouldn't you? Calculating the time, it must be nearly midnight. Why haven't you rested yet? Has something happened?"

Smith hurriedly explained: "Yes, Chairman, something has indeed happened."

Subsequently, Smith gave James a detailed report on the situation that Chu Weimin had reported to him.

After about four or five minutes, Smith finished his report. James stood up with a furrowed brow, paced to the floor-to-ceiling window, and tapped his fingers lightly against the window frame. After a moment of silence, his voice carried a hint of coldness: "So, you mean the Dragon Country Security Bureau has already started paying attention to the Zhao Family?"

"Yes, Chairman. Although there is no conclusive evidence yet, Chu Weimin is worried that the situation will worsen, so he suggests that we temporarily suspend our cooperation with the Zhao Family."

After hearing this, James did not make a decision immediately but asked instead: "Besides the situation reported by Chu Weimin, has there been any other movement in Dragon Country recently?"

Smith pondered for a moment, his brows furrowing slightly as a memory flashed in his eyes, and he hurriedly replied: "Now that you mention it, I do recall one thing. Just two days ago, Liu Chuanzhi, the Clan Chief of the Liu Family of Qingcheng in Dragon Country, suddenly called me."

"Oh?" James raised an eyebrow slightly and asked curiously, "Liu Chuanzhi called you?"

Fearing that James might misunderstand, Smith hurriedly explained: "It's like this. The Liu Family of Qingcheng has some business dealings with our Morgan Investment, and since the Liu Family has some influence in Dragon Country, we've gotten a bit closer. As it happens, Liu Chuanzhi's eldest grandson, Liu Qing, was studying in the United States, so I did him a favor and let his grandson join Morgan after graduation. Two days ago, Liu Chuanzhi suddenly called to say he wanted Liu Qing to return to the country, claiming that the upper echelons of Dragon Country had issued some kind of mobilization order to draft Martial Artists from their aristocratic families into the Security Bureau."

Upon hearing this, James's brows furrowed even tighter. He clenched his fist and slammed it against the window frame, saying in a deep voice: "Why didn't you report such an important situation to me?!"

"Uh... Chairman, it was my mistake. I... I didn't consider that at the time..." Smith hurriedly admitted his fault.

James took a deep breath, calmed himself slightly, and then continued: "Dragon Country is preparing to take action against Hongmen!"

Smith's voice carried a hint of certainty as he echoed: "Judging from the information obtained so far, it's nine times out of ten likely! According to Liu Chuanzhi, the Security Bureau has established a Special Operations Department. Its direct superior is the General Bureau Chief, and Ye Qingcheng, the eldest daughter of the Ye Family of the Capital, is the head of the Special Operations Department."

James paced back and forth in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, his mind racing as he pondered the crux of the matter. On the other end of the line, Smith did not dare to say more, waiting quietly for James's next instruction.

About a minute or two later, James finally spoke again: "Since the Dragon Country side has already started acting, we should pause where we need to pause. Let Chus Investment proceed with the Shanghai business as a normal financial investment. As for the Zhao Family, we still need to keep an eye on news from the capital of Dragon Country. Arrange for someone to contact the capital and sniff out some information. If it's confirmed that the Zhao Family is going to capsize this time, tell Chus Investment to sever ties with them as soon as possible, so as not to ruin the bigger picture!"

"Understood, Boss. I will make the contact as soon as possible."

James nodded and added: "Hmm. Also, keep an eye on Hongmen. When necessary, it wouldn't hurt to leak some information to the Dragon Country Security Bureau."

Upon hearing this, Smith's brows furrowed slightly, and a flicker of confusion flashed in his eyes: "Uh, Boss, what do you mean?"

The corners of James's mouth curled up slightly, revealing a cold smile, his eyes showing a hint of calculation: "Hongmen is, after all, an underground organization and cannot be brought into the light. In this day and age, they still insist on mindless killing, while we at Morgan play with our brains. If it weren't for the instructions from the old men of those financial groups, why would we, Morgan, need to cooperate with an organization like Hongmen? I don't know what those stubborn old fools see in Hongmen; they create no profit and yet take away so much money every year. Since Dragon Country intends to deal with Hongmen, we are happy to see it happen. Perhaps we can even earn a favor from Dragon Country, which would be beneficial for Morgan's future business expansion in Dragon Country."

Hearing this, a flash of realization crossed Smith's eyes, and his tone carried a hint of admiration: "Boss, your strategy of 'borrowing a knife to kill' is brilliant."

"Alright, stop the flattery. This matter must be handled with extreme caution. If Hongmen finds out that we betrayed them, they will definitely go and complain to those old men of the financial groups. Then none of us will have a good outcome!"

"Yes, Boss, I will be careful."

James nodded and responded: "Hmm. That's all for now. Report to me whenever there's a situation!"

"Understood, Boss. Goodbye, Boss."

Hanging up the phone, James looked out the window, furrowing his brow as he calculated for a moment, then walked back to his desk, picked up the phone on it, and called the female secretary outside the door.

Before long, the female secretary pushed the door open and walked in.

While reviewing the remaining documents, James said without raising his head: "Mia, adjust today's schedule. Go and make arrangements; I'm going to visit Mr. Morgan later."

Upon hearing this, the secretary, Mia, immediately responded: "Very well, Chairman, I will go and arrange it right away."

...

Meanwhile, having not heard the answer he wanted from Smith, Chu Weimin felt troubled.
