297: Chapter 297 Chu Weimin sends another team to Shanghai to take over Hongtai Construction

"Since I can't leave Hong Kong Island for now, I'll first arrange for someone to take over the mess left by Zhang Min." Chu Weimin murmured in a low voice, his brow furrowing slightly, a hint of helplessness flashing in his eyes. His fingers unconsciously tapped the tabletop as he pondered his next plan, continuing as if talking to himself, "The matter of Hongtai Construction is already set in stone, and it absolutely cannot be messed up. Otherwise, whether I can even survive is an unknown, let alone thinking about revenge."

With this thought, Chu Weimin took a deep breath, let out a long sigh, and then picked up his phone to make a call.

About twenty minutes later, a rapid knocking sounded at the door. Chu Weimin stood up, walked quickly to the door, and pulled it open. Outside stood a man in a suit with a respectful attitude, though he looked a bit disheveled, with fine beads of sweat on his forehead, clearly having arrived in a hurry.

"Yudong, you're here. Come in." Chu Weimin's voice carried a faint hint of fatigue as he stepped aside to let the other man in.

The man was named Dong Yudong, roughly the same rank as Zhang Min, and could be considered Chu Weimin's right-hand man.

Dong Yudong panted, an apologetic look on his face as he said respectfully, "Sorry, Chairman, I live a bit far from here, so it took some time."

Chu Weimin waved his hand, his tone casual: "It's no matter, take a seat first." He pointed to the sofa, signaling Dong Yudong to sit.

Dong Yudong gave an 'aye' and was about to sit down when he heard Chu Weimin continue, "Care for a drink?"

Dong Yudong, who had just sat down, immediately straightened up. He saw Chu Weimin holding a bottle of champagne, looking at him. A look of being overwhelmed by favor immediately appeared on Dong Yudong's face, and he hurriedly stepped forward to take the champagne, smiling respectfully: "Chairman, let me do it. Please, sit."

"Mm." Chu Weimin nodded and sat back on the sofa, watching Dong Yudong pour the champagne with interest, starting the conversation in a relaxed tone: "Yudong, you've been with the company for three years now, haven't you?"

Although Dong Yudong was somewhat puzzled, he immediately replied, "Yes, Chairman, three years, five months, and nineteen days." As he spoke, he handed the poured glass of champagne to Chu Weimin, a respectful smile always on his face.

Chu Weimin raised his hand and pointed to the sofa diagonally opposite him, his tone casual: "Sit, don't be so formal."

Dong Yudong responded and then sat upright with his hands on his knees, his gaze respectfully fixed on Chu Weimin, waiting for further instructions.

Chu Weimin took a small sip of champagne, a hint of deep meaning flashing in his eyes as he spoke slowly, "Yudong, I called you here today because there's something I need you to do."

Dong Yudong adjusted his sitting posture slightly, leaning forward a bit, his tone carrying a hint of determination: "Please say the word, Chairman, I will certainly give it my all!"

Chu Weimin nodded: "It's like this. Two days ago, I sent Zhang Min to Modu to handle the equity transfer of Hongtai Construction. You should be somewhat aware of it, right?"

Regarding Hongtai Construction, Dong Yudong didn't actually know much. However, as Chu Weimin's deputy, he did know about some of the company's external investments.

Back then, when Hongtai Construction came to Hong Kong Island for financing, Chu Weimin had invested through two shell companies. But as for why the chairman did this, Dong Yudong did not know.

But since the chairman asked, Dong Yudong could only nod and reply, "Yes. I do know a bit about the Hongtai Construction matter."

"Mm. To go public back then, Hongtai Construction secured two rounds of investment from me. The boss of Hongtai Construction, Wang Hongtai, signed a gambling agreement. If he couldn't get Hongtai Construction listed by the end of July, he would have to give up 40% of the company's equity and repay the full investment. Unfortunately, not long ago, Wang Hongtai suddenly met with a car accident, and some bad news about Hongtai Construction broke out online. The listing will likely be shelved."

"Ah? The boss of Hongtai Construction is dead?" Hearing this, a flash of shock first crossed Dong Yudong's eyes. After calming down slightly, he continued, "However, since there is a signed agreement, the equity transfer shouldn't be a problem. Zhang Min should be able to handle it. I wonder why you called me here tonight, Chairman?"

Chu Weimin sighed softly, a hint of hidden anxiety in his tone: "I thought so at first. But for some reason, Zhang Min suddenly went silent today. No one answers when I call, and no one replies to messages. I've asked the Hongtai Construction side and checked the hotel where Zhang Min was staying, but no one knows what's going on. That's why I called you over."

Hearing this, Dong Yudong was startled: Zhang Min has lost contact? That can't be...

Thinking this, Dong Yudong couldn't help but frown and say, "Perhaps she's at a social function and didn't hear the phone?"

Chu Weimin naturally wouldn't tell him the truth. He just waved his hand, his tone carrying a hint of helplessness: "No. She calls me every day at a set time to report on her work. I'm worried she's met with some misfortune. After all, 40% equity in Hongtai Construction is no small amount. There's no telling how many people are eyeing this piece of fat meat."

Regarding Chu Weimin's explanation, Dong Yudong didn't think much before suggesting, "Then, Chairman, should we call the police?"

Chu Weimin shook his head, his tone calm but with a hint of coldness: "Secretary Zhang is an adult. If she's been out of contact for less than 24 hours, the police won't open a case. Moreover, I want the takeover of the 40% equity in Hongtai Construction to be a smooth transition. If we call the police, they will inevitably intervene and investigate. By then, it will surely attract media attention. This would be very passive for us!"

Dong Yudong's frown deepened as he asked in confusion, "Then, Chairman, what do you mean?"

"How about this: go to Modu. First, to inquire about Zhang Min's whereabouts, and second, someone needs to take over the follow-up work for Hongtai Construction in Modu."

Hearing Chu Weimin's arrangement, Dong Yudong swallowed, feeling a bit hesitant.

Seeing this, Chu Weimin immediately added, "Yudong, don't worry. This time, I'll send a bodyguard to protect you. As for Zhang Min's matter, if you have concerns, forget it. If something really happened to Zhang Min, the local police will naturally step in. You just need to handle the takeover of Hongtai Construction."

Hearing this, Dong Yudong's hesitation eased slightly, and he quickly replied, "Uh, no, no, Chairman, you've misunderstood. I have nothing to worry about."

Chu Weimin nodded, a hint of satisfaction flashing in his eyes: "Mm. Once this is done, I'll promote you to General Manager of the Modu Branch, and you'll be responsible for the subsequent operations of Hongtai Construction." As he spoke, Chu Weimin stood up, patted Dong Yudong's shoulder, and continued, "Work hard. Although Hongtai Construction's scale can't compare to those state-owned enterprises in the Dragon Kingdom, it's still a leader among private real estate companies. It has a bright future!"

A look of joy immediately appeared on Dong Yudong's face, his tone carrying a hint of excitement: "Don't worry, Chairman, I will certainly not fail your trust."

"Mm," Chu Weimin nodded with satisfaction, then took out a bank card from his pocket and handed it to Dong Yudong, continuing, "There's five hundred thousand here. The password is the last six digits of the card number."

Dong Yudong didn't dare to take it immediately, a look of surprise on his face as he hesitated, "Chairman, this... is too much..."

Chu Weimin smiled, his tone light: "Haha, it's just five hundred thousand. Once you become the General Manager of the Modu Branch, your annual salary will be more than a million. Take it with peace of mind."

Hearing this, a grateful smile appeared on Dong Yudong's face, and he said excitedly, "Then, thank you very much, Chairman."

Chu Weimin smiled, took another sip of champagne, and instructed, "The matter is urgent, so head to Modu as soon as possible. No need to pack luggage or anything; just buy whatever you need once you get to Modu. I've already had someone book your flight, and the accompanying bodyguard is waiting for you downstairs. Oh, right," as he spoke, Chu Weimin took out another business card and handed it to Dong Yudong.

Dong Yudong took it with both hands and looked at it. Chu Weimin explained, "This is the legal counsel for Hongtai Construction—Zhou Qian. Back when Wang Hongtai, the chairman of Hongtai Construction, came to Hong Kong Island for financing, he brought this Lawyer Zhou Qian with him. Wang Hongtai is dead, but Zhou Qian is an insider, and the two of them were very close. When you get there, you can look for this Zhou Qian regarding the equity transfer!"

Dong Yudong nodded and replied, "Alright, Chairman, I understand."

Chu Weimin smiled and then saw Dong Yudong to the door.

Once the door closed, Chu Weimin walked quickly back to the coffee table, picked up his phone, and dialed the bodyguard waiting downstairs.

The call connected, and Chu Weimin instructed, "Ah Long, Dong Yudong has headed down. Remember what I told you. There must be no slips in the Hongtai Construction matter. Report Dong Yudong's movements in Modu, whom he meets, and what he says to me in exhaustive detail! Also, watch out for that lawyer named Wang Ming, understood?!"

"Yes! Don't worry, Boss, I will stay by his side every moment."

The call ended, and Chu Weimin paced to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking out toward the hotel parking lot.

After waiting a short while, he saw Dong Yudong, accompanied by the bodyguard Ah Long, get into his Mercedes-Maybach and drive toward Hong Kong Island International Airport.

"I hope nothing goes wrong this time," Chu Weimin murmured in a low voice.

...

The night was deep, and Qin Yi and the others finally ended the cocktail party and went home.

After the car stopped in the underground garage of the Shenjiangwan Community, Qin Yi and Xu Qian noticed the cars of Wang Tengfei and Xin Mingyuan.

"It seems Fatty and the others finished earlier than us," Qin Yi said with a smile.

"Yeah, they were quite fast." As she spoke, she reached for her phone in her bag, "Then I'll call Zilin first and have him go straight to the 32nd floor."

Seeing this, Qin Yi reached out and gently stopped her, shaking his head with a casual tone: "We're already at the doorstep, no need to call. Let's just go to the 18th floor to find them."

Xu Qian's movement paused, a hint of hesitation appearing on her face: "Uh, it's so late, is that okay? Maybe they've already gone to bed."

Qin Yi smiled, a hint of certainty in his eyes: "Haha, don't worry. I know them; they won't sleep this early." As he spoke, he reached out and patted Xu Qian's shoulder, his tone relaxed, "How about this: you go back to the 32nd floor first, and I'll go to the 18th floor to check."

"Mm, that works too."

Not long after, the elevator stopped at the 18th floor with a "ding." Qin Yi stepped out of the elevator, turned back, and waved to Xu Qian with a smile: "You go up first, I'll be back soon."

"Mm, I'll wait for you." Xu Qian smiled sweetly, and the elevator doors slowly closed.

Qin Yi turned and walked toward 1801. However, just as he reached the door, before he could even knock, he heard Wang Tengfei's anxious voice from inside: "Holy shit, Old Third, stop farming the jungle and get back to the mid lane to clear the wave!"
