79: Chapter 79 The Second Miss of the Chu Family - Chu Muxue
Meanwhile, at the Shenjiang Bund in the Demon City, inside the UV French Restaurant, soft lighting spilled into every corner, creating an atmosphere that was both romantic and elegant.
Xing Zhenkun and Chu Muyun sat across from each other. Xing Zhenkun glanced at the time on his wristwatch, his brow furrowing slightly as he asked with curiosity, "Mu Yun, why hasn't your sister arrived yet? Is she stuck in traffic?"
Chu Muyun gave a faint smile, withdrawing her gaze from the beautiful scenery of the Bund outside. She gently swirled the wine glass in her hand, the red wine inside as alluring as blood. "It's not even the agreed time yet. Don't worry, Mu Xue is very punctual and will definitely not be late. Besides, I didn't ask you to come in the first place; if you can't wait, you're more than welcome to leave first."
Xing Zhenkun gave a sheepish smile, a flash of embarrassment in his eyes. "Hey, I just wanted to catch a glimpse of the Chutian Group's rumored second Young Miss..."
While they were talking, Chu Muyun's eyes suddenly lit up as if she had caught an interesting sight. She waved toward the direction behind Xing Zhenkun, her movements carrying a hint of playfulness.
Seeing this, Xing Zhenkun knew the guest of honor had arrived. He immediately stood up and straightened his lapels, wanting to leave a good impression on this legendary second Young Miss.
Xing Zhenkun turned around and saw a capable-looking beauty in a sharp suit walking toward them from the restaurant entrance.
She wore a sequined, five-quarter sleeve small suit jacket over a silk inner layer. Although there were no visible brand logos, the outfit looked richly layered and appeared to be high-end custom-made. On her lower half, she wore a pair of straight-leg cigarette pants paired with solid black stilettos. Her stride was steady and confident, each step exuding the unique charm of a professional woman.
Xing Zhenkun nodded in greeting and reached out his hand, intending to shake hers and introduce himself. However, the beauty ignored him completely, not even sparing him a glance from the corner of her eye as she walked straight toward Chu Muyun.
Chu Muyun stood up with a smile and opened her arms, warmly embracing the beauty.
Xing Zhenkun stood to the side with an awkward smile, feeling a bit left out as he watched the heartwarming scene of the two sisters reuniting. He couldn't help but mutter to himself, *So this is the second Young Miss of the Chu family. That aura of hers is really no joke.*
After a moment, the two separated. Chu Muyun smiled as she looked Chu Muxue up and down, her eyes filled with admiration and pride for her sister. She remarked, "Xiao Xue, long time no see. You've really grown more beautiful; you have the vibe of a powerful career woman."
Chu Muxue first placed her bag casually on the seat. Her eyes held a touch of coldness, but a smile remained on her face. "Sister, stop teasing me. I just came from the Group. Knowing you were back, I rushed over without even having time to change... You didn't even notify me in advance when you returned to the country. I could have picked you up from the airport." Though there was a hint of reproach in her tone, it was mostly concern for Chu Muyun.
The corners of Chu Muyun's mouth curled into a slight arc. After gesturing for Chu Muxue to sit down, her eyes sparkled with a bit of playfulness and confusion as she continued, "I wanted to give you a surprise. But isn't today the weekend? As the 'Eldest Princess,' you still went to the Group to work overtime on a weekend?"
Seeing both of them sit down without anyone paying him any attention, Xing Zhenkun also gave an awkward smile and sat back down dejectedly.
At that moment, a waiter, seeing that the guest they were waiting for had arrived, walked over and asked respectfully, "Hello to the three of you. Would you like to order now?"
Xing Zhenkun finally caught an opportunity. He looked at the two of them, trying to join their conversation. "What would the two Chu Young Misses like to eat?"
However, Xing Zhenkun once again experienced what it felt like to have his warm advances met with cold indifference. Facing Xing Zhenkun's proactive inquiry, Chu Muxue didn't look at him at all. Her expression was cold, and her tone carried a hint of impatience and aloofness. "Whatever. I don't have anything in particular I like; you guys decide."
Xing Zhenkun was speechless. He could only turn to Chu Muyun to ease his embarrassment. He looked at her and said with a sheepish smile, "Mu Yun, why don't you order?"
Chu Muyun nodded and then ordered several dishes that she remembered Chu Muxue liked.
After the waiter left, Xing Zhenkun hurriedly signaled Chu Muyun with his eyes, prompting her to help introduce him.
Chu Muyun brushed a strand of hair and looked at Xing Zhenkun with a hint of playfulness in her eyes. Then she cleared her throat. "Xiao Xue, let me introduce you. This is Xing Zhenkun, and he's also my current boss."
Hearing this, Chu Muxue finally turned her head. Her cold eyes glanced at Xing Zhenkun, and she gave a slight nod as an acknowledgment. However, she still had no intention of continuing the conversation, sitting there with a frosty demeanor.
Although Xing Zhenkun had been mentally prepared, Chu Muxue's cold attitude was indeed something he hadn't fully expected.
Faced with this situation, Xing Zhenkun was at a loss for a moment. Among the women he had met in the past, there were those more beautiful than Chu Muxue, but they were generally more proactive. This Chu Muxue before him was even colder than Chu Muyun by several degrees.
Not knowing what to say to break the awkward atmosphere, Xing Zhenkun could only use drinking water as a cover.
Seeing the atmosphere like this, Chu Muyun resumed the previous topic, hoping to ease the tension. "Xiao Xue, you haven't answered me yet. You still go to the Group to work overtime on the weekend?"
"Sigh," Chu Muxue sighed and smiled with a slightly helpless expression. "It's all because of your Second Uncle. I originally thought that after graduation, I'd travel abroad for a while and then follow Sister Yun's example by studying abroad for a few years before coming back... but your Second Uncle just wouldn't agree. He insisted I start working at the Group first. So, he called me early this morning to go to a meeting at the Group. When you called me, I was accompanying him in a video conference with several heads of the overseas branches."
Chu Muyun's eyes narrowed slightly, a hint of playfulness and inquiry flashing within them. She leaned closer to Chu Muxue and lowered her voice. "Is Second Uncle training you to be the successor?"
"Maybe," Chu Muxue shrugged and shook her head, her voice carrying a bit of worry and helplessness. "You also know that Big Brother never concerns himself with the Group's business affairs. Besides, my Dad's health hasn't been as good as before lately."
Hearing this, a look of concern also appeared on Chu Muyun's face, her brow furrowing slightly. "Second Uncle is sick? Why haven't I heard him mention it before?"
"Sigh," Chu Muxue sighed and shook her head, a trace of helplessness showing in her eyes. "I've asked him, but he always avoids the subject. I also quietly asked his private doctor, but I didn't get any real answers. However, I noticed that he takes medicine on time every day, and the private doctor comes to the house regularly to give him check-ups. I don't know what's really going on."
"Then didn't you secretly check what medicine he's taking?" Chu Muyun pressed, her eyes revealing her concern.
"I did, but they're all just traditional Chinese medicinal herbs. There are no specific names written on the packaging, so I can't tell what they are at all..." Chu Muxue spread her hands, appearing somewhat powerless.
"I see..." Chu Muyun paused for a moment. Seeing Chu Muxue's worried face, she comforted her, "Cough, Xiao Xue, don't worry too much. Maybe it's just some traditional Chinese medicine to nourish the body. Second Uncle is getting older, so it's only natural to take some Chinese medicine to supplement his health. Maybe he didn't tell you because he didn't want you to worry... Oh, by the way, Second Uncle doesn't know I'm back, right?"
"Mm," Chu Muxue gave a soft response and shook her head slightly, a flash of complex emotion in her eyes. "He doesn't know. Don't worry, I haven't told him about your return to the country yet."
Chu Muyun lightly patted her chest and smiled. "It's good that he doesn't know. If he knew I was back, he would definitely make me work at the Group again." As she spoke, she stole a glance at Xing Zhenkun sitting across from her, her mind secretly pondering.
Chu Muxue asked with some confusion, "Sister, now that you're back, why don't you return to the Group to work? For a top graduate from Columbia University like you to manage a Supercar Club, isn't that a waste of talent?"
Hearing this, Xing Zhenkun felt another wave of embarrassment and couldn't help but cough lightly, thinking to himself: *Damn, Young Miss, I'm the boss and I'm right here. Is it really okay to say that to my face?*
He rubbed his nose to hide his thoughts.
Chu Muyun glanced at Xing Zhenkun, a mischievous light flashing in her eyes as she replied with a smile, "Cough, I'll just do this for now. Originally, I didn't plan on coming back; several investment banks abroad had sent me offers, inviting me to join. But I couldn't withstand Mr. Xing's persistent persuasion, so I had to come back." As she spoke, she even gave a playful wink.
This time, Chu Muxue finally looked at Xing Zhenkun properly. After a moment, she asked curiously, "Sister, I don't see anything special about him. He's not handsome, and he probably isn't young anymore, right? You couldn't have fallen for him, could you?"
"Ahem, ahem..." Xing Zhenkun once again used a light cough to hide his embarrassment, while Chu Muxue didn't care in the slightest and continued to wait for Chu Muyun's answer.
"Tch," Chu Muyun curled her lip in feigned disdain and explained, "Xiao Xue, what are you saying? Am I someone with such low standards? Didn't I say it? I'm just doing this for now. I can't rely on Second Uncle's support forever; I have to be self-reliant!" As she spoke, she even straightened her back.
"Sister, we're all family. There's no such thing as 'support' or not..." Chu Muxue reached out and took Chu Muyun's hand. Although her eyes still held that touch of coldness, they were filled with much more warmth compared to when she looked at Xing Zhenkun.
The three of them chatted while eating. In reality, it was mostly Chu Muyun and Chu Muxue talking. Xing Zhenkun would interject a word or two whenever he found an opening, but he basically received no response.
He shook his head somewhat helplessly, sighing inwardly that his "presence" in front of these two sisters was truly too low.
