105: Chapter 105 New Identity, New Mission

Since he was back in New Orleans, Sean naturally had to return to his "base."

He parked the car in front of Hill Manor and turned off the engine.

He pushed open the car door, got out, and was about to go home when a voice came from behind him.

"Officer Blake."

Sean turned around. A black sedan was parked by the roadside, its door open, and a man was standing next to it.

Dark suit, white shirt, no tie.

In his fifties, gray hair, burly build.

It was John Murray from the Department of Justice's Enforcement Bureau, the man who had handed him a business card at the commendation ceremony.

He looked at Sean with a calm expression, but his eyes held a scrutinizing light.

"Mr. Murray," Sean said. "How did you know I was here?"

Murray walked over and stood before him. "I've been waiting for you."

Waiting for him?

Sean didn't speak.

This situation was clearly off!

No matter how you looked at it, John Murray was a high-ranking official. Does it make sense for him to wait for a low-level cop?

But looking at Murray's expression, one could see he was serious.

"Officer Blake, have you considered what I told you?"

Sean played dumb first. "What was that?"

"Joining the FBI." Murray didn't find it troublesome and patiently repeated himself. "The higher-ups have a mission that needs someone like you."

Sean was silent for a moment. "I need to know more."

Murray nodded. "Of course."

He glanced at Hill Manor behind Sean—the rusted iron gate, the overgrown driveway, and the old white house gleaming coldly under the moonlight.

His gaze lingered on the gate for a moment, the corner of his mouth twitching slightly, before he said, "Officer Blake, aren't you going to invite me in for a seat?"

"I've heard about this manor. The Colombians were scared shitless here, and Scarface Hector fainted inside. Won't you let me see it for myself?"

Well!

It seemed the other party had investigated him thoroughly!

Since that was the case, it looked like there was no avoiding it!

Thinking this, Sean turned and pushed open the iron gate. "Come in."

Murray followed him inside, walking through the overgrown front yard and onto the porch.

Sean pushed the door open, and the fire in the fireplace lit itself... He blocked the view with his body and stepped aside to let Murray in first.

Murray didn't notice; his gaze was drawn to the hall.

High ceilings, carved stair railings, and ancient oil paintings on the walls.

He stood in the center of the hall, turned around once, and nodded. "Nice place."

Sean didn't take the bait. "Sit."

Murray sat down on the sofa.

Sean sat opposite him, the fire from the fireplace illuminating both their faces.

Murray placed his briefcase on the coffee table, opened it, took out a kraft paper envelope, placed it on the table, and pushed it toward Sean.

"Officer Blake, I won't beat around the bush." Murray's voice was flat. "There's a mission that the higher-ups take very seriously. We need you to enter a school to control... no, to supervise a Supernatural Being."

Sean's fingers tightened slightly.

He looked at Murray; the gray-haired face looked very solemn in the firelight.

Supernatural Being... hearing this term from someone in the Department of Justice wasn't a probe; it was a confirmation.

They knew the world wasn't what ordinary people thought it was. They knew supernatural things existed, and they were looking for people who could handle them.

Then again, Sean had long known that the top brass were aware of these things.

Now it seemed... he had been chosen...

"How did you know I..."

"Could handle this kind of thing?"

Murray finished his sentence and smiled. "Officer Blake, in the Joseph White case, your report wrote 'unidentified creature'."

"But the physical evidence we collected at the scene isn't something an 'unidentified creature' can explain."

He paused and continued, "Furthermore, regarding this manor—we don't know the details of what the Colombians experienced here, but we know the result."

"One Scarface fainted, over a dozen people fled, and then you caught them. That's not something an ordinary police officer can do."

Fine... he had been investigated clear as day.

Fortunately... perhaps because he was already within the judicial system, he hadn't been locked up for research...

Sean knew in his heart that at this point, cooperation should be the priority.

Resistance would only lead to more trouble.

Besides, he had supernatural powers and indeed needed to get closer to the organization; otherwise, being alone outside would only cause trouble.

So he took the initiative to ask, "Where is the school?"

"Nevermore Academy," Murray said. "Near the town of Jericho, Vermont. A private boarding school. There's a student there with supernatural abilities. We need you to go in as a teacher, get close to her, control her, and if necessary... contain her."

Sean understood as soon as he heard it.

Nevermore Academy.

Jericho, Vermont.

He had heard that name!

The American TV series Wednesday!

The students inside weren't ordinary people... Vampires, werewolves, sirens, Gorgons, and that girl named Wednesday Addams—black braids, a cold expression, and the ability to see visions of the past.

Nevermore Academy was a sanctuary for Outcasts, a home for those children rejected by the ordinary world.

"Who is the student you want me to contain?"

Murray was silent for a moment. "Wednesday Addams."

Just as expected!

Sean's fingers stopped moving.

Wednesday.

That girl wasn't a bad person, but she would cause trouble.

Big trouble.

Wherever she went, trouble followed.

Death, disappearances, murder... she was like a magnet, attracting all the dark things.

"What did she do?"

Murray shook his head. "It's not what she did, but what she's going to do. Her personality is too complex; she needs to be controlled."

Murray paused and said, "She's not an ordinary person. We need to protect her."

"But if we send someone directly, she won't accept it. She doesn't trust authority, she doesn't trust the police, she doesn't trust anyone."

"So we need someone who can get close to her as a teacher, gain her trust, and when necessary... restrain her."

Sean looked at Murray: "Why do you think I can gain her trust?"

Murray looked at him, hitting the nail on the head. "Because you aren't an ordinary person either."

That was a reason, but not quite.

Sean asked again, "Why look for me?"

Murray looked at him: "Because you've handled similar matters. We believe you have experience."

That was true.

With witches, Vampires, evil spirits, and demons, Sean could be said to be quite experienced.

"Officer Blake." Murray's voice interrupted his thoughts. "Will you take this mission?"

Sean thought about it.

Nevermore Academy, Wednesday Addams... that little girl is not someone to be trifled with at all...
