43: Chapter 43 The Witch's Treasure?

Officer Sean barely managed to swallow his words, but it was clearly too late.

"Hmm?"

Fiona looked at him, forcing Shaun to continue: "You what?"

Shaun kept his mouth shut and looked at Fiona.

There was a hint of a smile on that face, which was already looking a bit aged, but in those eyes... there was no smile at all.

"It's nothing, just looking around."

Shaun tried to play it off.

But Fiona suddenly burst into laughter.

That smile reminded Shaun of the first time he saw her at the estate, that look she had as if she were watching ants.

Then he heard the Supreme Witch say in a somewhat sarcastic tone: "Just looking around? Officer Sean, your 'just looking around' has had our little witch running back and forth for several days."

She walked up to Shaun, very close.

So close that Shaun could smell the perfume on her... It wasn't very pleasant; it was a bit too strong.

But now was not the time to worry about this perfume, and he heard Fiona say: "You are looking for that old man... Frank Gallagher?"

As soon as these words were spoken, Shaun's pupils constricted slightly!

She knew!

She knew everything!

Just as Shaun was reeling in shock, he heard the witch continue: "Do you have business with him? Or... are you actually here to look for the Witch's Treasure too?"

Shaun's brain went "buzz."

The Witch's Treasure.

The "old hag's legacy" that Frank mentioned.

Shaun suddenly understood!

Frank hadn't gone missing; he had been captured.

Captured by Fiona!

That old bastard must have heard about the Witch's Treasure from somewhere and ran here to find it. As a result, he didn't find the treasure, he found the Supreme Witch.

Shaun's throat tightened... but he didn't move.

He looked at Fiona, his face expressionless, trying to keep things simple: "I'm just here to find that old man; his daughter is waiting for him, that's all."

Unfortunately, this tactic was useless against Fiona.

Fiona stared at him, her eyes like a snake watching a mouse, and said coldly: "Just looking for that old man?"

"Yes."

"You don't know about the treasure?"

"I don't."

Fiona's expression changed, and she said coldly: "Officer Sean, do you know what I hate most? It's when people play dumb with me."

She took a step forward and said: "That old man, Frank Gallagher, he knows about the Witch's Treasure."

"That policeman, Joseph White, he knows too."

After saying this, Fiona was already standing in front of Shaun, less than half a meter away.

Every word she said drilled violently into Shaun's ears: "It is impossible for you not to know something that both of them know."

Shaun's heart almost stopped.

Joseph White knows too?

Joseph White and Frank know each other?

No!

That's impossible!

But they are both looking for the same thing?

Shaun didn't have time to think it through, because Fiona's gaze had changed.

It was no longer scrutinizing; it was... killing intent.

Madison stepped in to block her: "Fiona, what are you doing?"

Fiona didn't look at her.

She stared at Shaun, her gaze passing through Madison as if she were passing through thin air.

"Move aside."

"No!"

Fiona raised her hand.

Madison's body seemed to be gripped by an invisible force, and she floated backward, pressed against the wall, unable to move.

Queenie rushed up but was also frozen in place.

Only Shaun and Fiona were left in the room, face to face.

Fiona said with deliberate patience: "Officer Sean, I will ask you one more time."

Her voice was very light, very gentle, as if coaxing a child: "Do you really not know about the treasure?"

Shaun's heart stirred as he listened.

How did it feel like... this Supreme Witch actually wasn't very clear about what the Witch's Treasure was either.

Right now, it really looked like she wanted to get some information from him.

But!

He really didn't know anything at all!

So Shaun said: "I don't know."

Fiona smiled: "You don't know? Alright, I'll tell you."

"Hundreds of years ago, the power left behind by my predecessors became the Witch's Treasure, but... after the rumor spread, it turned into gold and jewels."

Her voice became even lighter: "That old man heard about this from somewhere and ran here to look for it... That policeman, Joseph White, did the same."

"Both of them are looking for it."

Fiona's tone was both light and cold, making Shaun break out in a cold sweat.

Shaun knew that although he was a "Chaos Body," he definitely couldn't beat the Supreme Witch in a fight.

So he said to Fiona very sincerely, with an honest expression: "I really am not looking for it."

Fiona didn't speak, just kept looking at him, her gaze as if she were judging whether he was lying.

One second.

Two seconds.

Three seconds.

Shaun stood in place, motionless. He knew that at this moment, any unnecessary expression or movement would make things worse.

He just looked at Fiona.

But he saw that the killing intent in those bottomless eyes was fading.

After a while, Fiona suddenly said: "You aren't lying."

Shaun sighed in relief upon hearing this, but he dared not completely relax his guard.

Fiona took half a step forward: "You really don't know about the treasure."

Shaun affirmed again: "I really don't."

Fiona said: "Officer Sean, do you know, I have seen countless people lie."

"Men, women, witches, ordinary people... no one has ever successfully lied to me."

"You are naturally no exception, so... it seems you really don't know."

Shaun didn't speak.

He didn't know what the Supreme Witch was trying to do and was afraid of saying the wrong thing.

Fiona added: "Actually, I don't know where that treasure is either."

Shaun was taken aback and asked uncertainly: "What?"

Fiona looked at him, her eyes calm.

"I said, I don't know where that treasure is buried either."

"That was hundreds of years ago. It's something my predecessors left behind, but specifically where it is, or how to find it... nobody knows."

What?

Fiona doesn't know?

Shaun's brain spun rapidly.

Then why did she capture Frank?

Why did Joseph White die?

Shaun was left dizzy by the Supreme Witch's words, but he heard her continue: "That old man, Frank Gallagher, is indeed in my hands."

"He stumbled upon an abandoned cabin, a place I once used. He thought it was the entrance to the treasure, and as a result..."

Fiona shrugged as she said: "I discovered him."

So he really had been captured by the Supreme Witch.

Shaun immediately asked: "Is he still alive?"

Fiona chuckled: "Alive... although he was scared quite badly, he is alive. I have no interest in killing an old man who knows nothing."

Alive is good.

However...

Listening to the Supreme Witch's words, this old man Frank had clearly been tortured. Otherwise, she wouldn't use the phrase "an old man who knows nothing."

But... to be able to survive after encountering the Supreme Witch, Frank was already lucky enough...
