42: Chapter 42 Who exactly kidnapped them?
Seeing Shaun was a bit curious, Queenie introduced, "This is a sensor we witches use; it can capture residual soul energy."
She placed her hand on the crystal ball and closed her eyes.
Something began to emerge inside the crystal ball...
Gray mist, churning and swirling.
Then, a blurry figure appeared in the mist.
It was very blurry, features indistinguishable, but it was clearly a human shape.
He was running, struggling!
Then the image vanished.
Shaun was completely bewildered, but he noticed a thin layer of sweat on Queenie's forehead; she looked exhausted.
Before he could ask, he heard Queenie explain, "That's it. That Frank of yours, he was here. But he didn't leave on his own... He was taken."
Shaun's heart sank, but he asked, "By whom?"
Queenie shook her head. "I don't know. That aura was too chaotic; I could only feel fear. Immense fear. When he was taken, he was scared to death."
Shaun felt this was troublesome.
That old bastard Frank, even if he was being hounded for debts, beaten up, or thrown into a gutter, could still crawl back up and curse a few times.
What kind of thing could make him scared to death?
Shaun hurriedly asked, "Where is he now?"
Queenie wiped her sweat and said, "I don't know the exact location, but... you could ask the Supreme Witch."
Shaun was stunned for a moment, then asked uncertainly, "Fiona?"
Queenie nodded seriously. "Fiona has lived for over three hundred years; there isn't anything in this area of New Orleans that she doesn't know. Who is hiding where, who is doing what—she knows it all."
Madison scoffed from the side, rolling her eyes. "Ask her? That Old Hag, you have to pay with your life to get anything from her."
"If Shaun goes to ask her, she'll flay him alive."
Queenie shrugged. "Then you go ask?"
Madison kicked her. "If I could get an answer out of her, would I still be here wasting my breath with you?"
Shaun stood there, looking at the crystal ball.
The gray mist was still churning slowly inside, and Frank's face flickered in his mind.
That old bastard, the day he first arrived in New Orleans, he was lying under a tree sleeping, telling Shaun, "Good people get good rewards."
But now he had been taken away, scared to death.
And the only one who could find out where he was, was that three-hundred-year-old, cold-blooded Supreme Witch.
Fiona Goode!
Shaun really didn't want to see her.
From the first time he met her at the mansion, Shaun knew how dangerous that woman was.
The way she looked at him was like looking at an ant... she could crush him at any moment, she just couldn't be bothered.
Now he possessed magic.
And not just a little bit!
If Fiona discovered him... what would she think?
Would she think he was a threat?
Would she think he was useful?
It's hard to say!
"Shaun!"
Madison's voice interrupted his thoughts.
Shaun looked up to see Madison jump off the table and walk over to him, asking with concern, "What are you thinking about?"
Shaun shook his head. "Nothing."
Madison stared at him for three seconds, then sighed.
She said, "Shaun, do you not want to go see that Old Hag?"
Shaun didn't speak, but his silence was the answer.
Madison clicked her tongue. "I knew it! It's okay, I don't want you to see her either. That woman..."
She paused, her expression complex. "The way she looks at people is like she's picking out meat."
Shaun was stunned. "Picking out meat?"
"Yes," Madison said, "Picking which one is useful, which one is useless, which one can be devoured."
As she said this, she took Shaun's hand and comforted him, "So don't go, I'll think of another way."
Shaun weighed his options internally.
If he didn't go, what would happen if Frank couldn't be found?
Well... although if he couldn't be found, he couldn't be found, and it wasn't exactly a matter of utmost importance, but...
If he could be found, he should still try to find a way.
...
Shaun considered for a while.
Considering whether or not to go see Fiona, considering what to say after meeting her, considering what to do if that Old Hag really took an interest in the magic he possessed.
Madison sat back on the table, swinging her legs, bickering idly with Queenie.
Queenie was eating potato chips, rolling her eyes in the process.
The rain outside the window had eased up a bit, turning into that drizzling mist typical of New Orleans, drifting like fog.
Then the door was knocked.
Knock, knock, knock.
Three times, neither heavy nor light, quite polite.
Madison was stunned, jumped off the table, and said, "Who is it? Who would come at this hour?"
Madison said this while pulling the door open, and then her words stuck in her throat.
A person stood outside the door.
Blonde hair, exquisite makeup, a dark dress, holding a wet umbrella in her hand.
Fiona Goode.
The Supreme Witch.
Madison's expression immediately looked as if she had swallowed a live frog.
When she spoke, her voice was a bit off-key: "You... why are you here?"
Fiona glanced at her, a look like she was watching a bristling kitten, her tone lazy: "I can't come? This is my daughter's mansion."
She walked past Madison and entered the room.
Her gaze swept over the three people in the room, then landed on the table spread with maps.
She immediately raised an eyebrow and said, "Oh, what are you researching?"
Shaun stood still, but his mind was racing frantically.
Fiona Goode.
The Supreme Witch.
An old monster who had lived for over three hundred years.
Why would she be here?
You have to know, this person never cared about such trivial matters.
The Supreme Witch only cared about one thing... extending her own life.
...
The arrival of the Supreme Witch made everyone a bit nervous.
Queenie stood up, forgetting to eat the chips in her hand.
She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but nothing came out.
Madison closed the door and stood behind Fiona, her expression complex.
Fiona walked to the table, looked down at the maps, and said curiously, "Footprints? Liquor bottles?"
As she said this, she reached out, picked up one of the maps, and looked at it.
"You are looking for someone?"
Shaun's throat moved.
This was a chance!
Since Fiona asked this question, if he told her about Frank now...
Maybe she would tell him directly?
So Shaun subconsciously opened his mouth: "We..."
The words reached his lips, and he stopped abruptly.
No!
Who is Fiona Goode?
She isn't interested in anything.
She doesn't care about the affairs of the witch school, she doesn't care about her daughter's affairs, and she doesn't care about the life or death of those young witches.
She only cares about one thing.
The status of the Supreme Witch.
Her lifespan.
How much longer she can live.
How could such a person suddenly appear here? How could she take the initiative to ask what they were researching?
Unless...
A chill ran down Shaun's back.
Unless this matter had something to do with her.
Or had something to do with something she wanted to obtain.
