94: Chapter 94 The Countess's Help
Sean Black really felt helpless when it came to Elizabeth.
He didn't know what was wrong with this woman, but she just had to keep her eyes on him.
He asked, "What on earth do you want?"
Elizabeth looked at him, her voice carrying a hint of seduction: "I want to help you."
Ballard walked over from behind, stood next to Sean, her hand resting on the back of her waist: "Who are you?"
Elizabeth glanced at her: "Elizabeth, a friend of Sean's."
Ballard looked at her, then looked at Sean.
Sean didn't speak.
Elizabeth took a step forward, getting closer to Sean.
She was so close that he could smell her perfume, that ancient, complex scent mixed with a faint trace of blood.
She said, "Sean, I know what you're investigating."
"If you want to solve this case, you have to go to Lucia State Hospital."
Lucia State Hospital!
A buzzing sound went off in Sean's head.
The TV show Ratched?
That hospital, that nurse, those windows sealed with iron bars, that long, dimly lit corridor.
Ratched!
She wore a white nurse's uniform, stood behind the nurse's station, smiling, gently plunging a needle into a patient's vein.
But even if that woman was a total villain, she was just a mortal; it was impossible for her to have put everyone inside the church walls!
Sean couldn't keep his expression in check for a moment, and Elizabeth watched him, a flash of surprise appearing in her gray-blue eyes.
She tilted her head, the smile on her lips fading by half.
"You know about Lucia State Hospital?"
She hadn't expected him to know.
In her information, Sean was just a cop, a Warlock who had accidentally gained power, an outsider drawn into the witches' conflict.
He was only in his early twenties; he shouldn't know about Lucia, shouldn't know about that asylum hidden in the mountains of Northern California.
Sean saw her expression and knew he had given himself away.
But he didn't panic, his tone surprisingly calm: "I've heard of it, that hospital with Nurse Ratched."
Elizabeth became increasingly interested and continued to ask: "How do you know about it?"
Sean spouted some Bullshit: "You know, there are more strange files in the police station, and I like to flip through them when I'm bored."
This explanation was reasonable enough, and Elizabeth finally didn't keep pressing.
She took a step forward, walked past Sean, went to the desk, and said: "Mildred Ratched worked at Lucia from 1947 to 1950, during which time she tortured countless people."
"After the hospital closed, she disappeared. No one knows where she went."
She turned around and looked at Sean: "But I do."
Sean waited for what was next.
Elizabeth walked to the window, her back to him.
The sunlight shone in through the gap in the curtains, drawing a thin golden thread on her body: "She went to a place. A very far place, a place not many people know about."
Ballard stood at the door, her hand still on the back of her waist, watching Elizabeth's back.
"Why do you want to help us?" Ballard's voice was hard, carrying the wariness typical of a police officer.
Elizabeth didn't turn back: "Because I'm too bored..."
Too bored!
What kind of reason is that!
Something was wrong, very wrong!
Why did Elizabeth keep staring at him?
She had originally cooperated with the Colombians to find the witch's treasure; the Colombians might have thought it was a fortune, but Elizabeth definitely knew it wouldn't be that simple.
But the key problem was, the witch's treasure was fake!
Marie Laveau had said it herself; it was fake news she released to drain Fiona Goode.
Elizabeth shouldn't have known the treasure was fake; she should still be looking for it.
To be so proactive in coming to find him...
The only possibility was that Elizabeth knew that Fiona Goode's power was no longer in her body, but was currently stored in his own body!
Elizabeth had lived for hundreds of years and had seen countless types of powers; she could smell the aura of the old gods, could smell the darkness of Hill Manor, so could she smell the accumulation of centuries from the Supreme Witch?
A chill ran down Sean's spine.
He accessed the golden book in his mind, the pages flipping rapidly, and stopped at the page for Elizabeth's character profile.
[Elizabeth Jensen Favorability: 60/100]
[Status: Normal]
[Note: Her interest in you has not changed. She does not know you possess the power of the Supreme Witch, at least not yet.]
Sean stared at those lines, letting out a sigh of relief in his heart.
The score of 60 hadn't changed.
Could this person really just be bored?
Elizabeth turned her head to look at Sean's expression, her gray-blue eyes narrowing slightly: "What's wrong? You look very nervous."
Sean came back to his senses: "It's nothing."
Elizabeth was noncommittal, skipped the topic, and got straight to the point: "Sean, if you want to solve this case, you have to go to Lucia State Hospital."
Sean asked: "Go to Lucia?"
Elizabeth nodded: "Those corpses were moved by low-level demons, and all of this is related to Lucia. If you want answers, you have to go there."
Sean didn't think this was the only way, but since Elizabeth had said so, Sean agreed.
"How do we get there?"
Elizabeth smiled upon hearing Sean agree: "I'll take you."
She turned and walked toward the hallway, took two steps, stopped, and said without looking back: "We leave now, the car is downstairs."
Ballard took a step forward: "No, she cannot take Sean alone."
Elizabeth shrugged: "I didn't say I was taking him alone; you can take her too, I don't mind."
Ballard felt she shouldn't have asked Sean to come here.
The Elizabeth in front of them was obviously not "human."
If this was done successfully, they would owe a favor.
If it wasn't done, there would surely be many accidents, and it would be very dangerous.
But since things had come to this, they obviously couldn't just ignore it, so Ballard and Sean exchanged a look.
Seeing Sean nod, Ballard immediately picked up the backpack on the table, ready to set off.
The two followed Elizabeth out of the room and went downstairs.
Elizabeth's car was parked on the side of the road, a black sedan with the engine already running, the exhaust pipe puffing out faint white smoke.
She sat in the driver's seat, Sean pulled open the passenger door and sat in. Ballard sat in the back seat, the travel bag at her feet.
The car drove out of the alley and merged into the traffic.
Elizabeth didn't drive fast; she drove steadily.
Her fingers rested on the steering wheel, her nails painted dark red.
Sean leaned against the car window, watching the streets outside turn from city to suburbs, and from suburbs to wilderness.
The high-rises of Los Angeles moved further away, finally disappearing into the rearview mirror.
The three of them didn't speak the whole way.
After some time, the forests of Northern California loomed in the distance, like a black wall.
Lucia was in that mountain range!
