53: Chapter 53 The Truth Revealed!
Upon seeing this "Bat Monster," Shaun was reminded of the walls on either side of the alleyway when he first investigated the case.
They were three meters high, with no signs of climbing.
How did White get in?
How did he die?
If it was this thing... it could fly.
It could hang upside down on the wall.
It could approach someone silently, and then...
A chill ran down Shaun's spine.
White wasn't killed by a witch, nor was he silenced by the gang; he was killed by this thing!
Shaun took a deep breath.
The White case finally made sense.
Madison whispered in his ear: "Shaun, what's wrong?"
Shaun snapped out of it and said: "It's nothing, just remembered something."
The Bat Monster moved from the crossbeam.
It lifted its head... no, it lowered its head, looking down at them.
Those red eyes shone blindingly in the darkness, and then it laughed.
The laugh was awful, like fingernails scraping against glass: "Interesting, a witch? And..."
It stared at Shaun: "What are you?"
Shaun ignored the Bat Monster and only asked: "Where is Frank?"
The Bat Monster tilted its head: "That old man? He's underground, still alive. But..."
It grinned, revealing a mouthful of sharp fangs: "Once you're dead, he'll die too."
It released its claws and dropped down from the crossbeam.
The moment it landed, its body swelled to twice its size.
Its black robe burst, revealing gray-black skin underneath, with knotted muscles.
Its hands turned into real claws, looking long and sharp, glinting with a cold light.
The surrounding Colombians backed away; clearly, they knew what this thing was.
And clearly, they were afraid of it.
Madison stepped in front of Shaun: "I'll handle it."
Shaun held her shoulder: "Together."
The Bat Monster looked at them, its smile deepening: "Together? Good!"
With that, it lunged forward.
Its speed was astonishing.
Madison raised her hand! Telekinetic blast!
An invisible force slammed into the Bat Monster.
The Bat Monster was sent flying backward, crashing into a pile of wooden crates, smashing them to splinters.
But it immediately climbed back up.
It looked down at its chest, where there was a gash, slowly healing.
"A little painful." Its smile didn't change. "Again?"
Madison's expression changed.
Her telekinesis could send a dozen ghosts flying, but against this monster, it only left a gash?
Shaun didn't wait for her to attack again.
He charged straight at it.
"Elementary Combat, full power!"
He punched the Bat Monster in the face.
The Bat Monster's head tilted from the blow, but it immediately turned back, its claws sweeping across.
Shaun dodged to the side, but the tips of the claws still slashed his arm.
Blood sprayed out.
The Bat Monster looked down at the blood on its claws and licked it.
Then it seemed a bit stunned.
It turned to look at Shaun, and for the first time, a different expression appeared in those red eyes.
"Your blood... has the scent of the Old Gods."
Whatever Old Gods or New Gods, Shaun didn't understand a word of it.
Shaun ignored it and looked down at his arm.
Under the power of "Self-Healing," the wound healed instantly.
The Bat Monster's expression changed, exclaiming in surprise: "What exactly are you?"
Shaun didn't answer; he raised his hand.
"Telekinetic Burst!"
All the lights in the warehouse exploded simultaneously.
Darkness descended, with only the Bat Monster's red eyes glowing.
Then Shaun moved.
In the darkness, his speed was twice as fast as usual.
It wasn't because of telekinesis, but the confidence brought by "Self-Healing"; he wasn't afraid of getting hurt, so he dared to risk everything.
He lunged toward those red eyes.
One punch, two punches, three punches.
Every punch landed on that face.
The Bat Monster swung its claws wildly, leaving countless wounds on Shaun's body.
But those wounds... healed, healed, healed.
The Bat Monster began to feel fear; it had lived for so long and had never seen someone like this.
Couldn't be killed, and fought harder the more he was hit!
Madison watched from behind, her mouth wide open.
She had seen Shaun awaken, but she had never seen Shaun like this.
Like a madman, a madman who wasn't afraid of pain.
The Bat Monster finally couldn't take it anymore.
It suddenly swiped at Shaun to push him away and then ran toward the depths of the warehouse, where there was a hidden door.
Shaun hurriedly chased after it.
But by the time the hidden door closed, he only managed to see the thing dive into a tunnel.
Shaun stood before the hidden door, panting heavily.
The wounds on his body were healing at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Madison ran over: "Shaun! Are you okay?"
Shaun shook his head, staring at the hidden door.
The Bat Monster had run away.
But Frank... might be right down there.
He turned around, looked at the Colombians huddled in the corner, and asked coldly: "Where is Frank?"
The group of people was terrified, and no one spoke.
That Bat Monster was clearly not human, yet this cop could beat that non-human thing into retreat; was he even normal?
Seeing that no one was speaking, Shaun walked over calmly: "I'm asking you, where is Frank?"
Among the group, a skinny man pointed at the hidden door and replied tremblingly: "It's... it's underground..."
Shaun turned around, ready to push the door open.
Madison grabbed him: "Shaun, that thing is still down there."
Shaun looked at her: "I know."
"You're still going down?"
"It's no match for me."
Madison felt a little relieved then.
The two of them pushed open the hidden door; the tunnel was pitch black.
Shaun walked in.
Behind him, Madison's hand gently gripped his wrist.
...
Behind the hidden door was a narrow corridor.
Shaun walked in front, with Madison following closely, one hand on his wrist, ready to strike at any moment.
The corridor was deep.
The walls on both sides were rough concrete, pipes overhead dripped water, and the air was filled with a musty smell, mixed with something else...
The smell of blood?
And... an indescribable scent of perfume.
Shaun's footsteps paused.
How could there be perfume in a place like this?
At the end of the corridor was a wooden door.
It was half-ajar, and there was light inside.
Shaun reached out and pushed the door open.
Then he saw the layout of the room inside.
On the walls hung several oil paintings, all in the style of the Renaissance, depicting nude women and angels.
The floor was covered with a dark red carpet; although old, it was clear it had once been very expensive.
In the center of the room was a sofa, with two armchairs opposite it, and on the coffee table sat a bottle of red wine and two glasses.
It was just like the living room of some noblewoman.
Shaun's gaze swept across the room, seeing Frank lying on the floor.
He was curled up in the corner, his face pale, but his chest was still rising, clearly he was still alive.
The Bat Monster was also lying on the floor, not far from Frank.
It was lying on its back, with a huge wound on its chest, oozing black blood.
Those red eyes were half-open, having lost their luster.
Dead.
Shaun's pupils contracted slightly.
Who killed it?
Then he saw the person on the sofa.
A woman.
She was sitting in the middle of the sofa, with her legs crossed, holding a glass of red wine, looking at him with great interest...
