86: Chapter 86 The Last Solution

Madison was somewhat worried.

She hurriedly asked, "Then what should we do?"

Myrtle didn't answer.

[Remember this site's domain, Taiwan Novel Network is super smooth, read anytime]

She looked at Cordelia; Cordelia's eyes were closed, her eyelashes trembling, unknown if she was awake or dreaming.

Myrtle said, "The Supreme Witch's power is still within Fiona's body. But her body can no longer hold out; if the power isn't passed on, it will dissipate along with her."

Madison's face turned even paler.

"Dissipate? Then what about the witches? What about this school? What about us?"

Myrtle didn't answer.

The hall was deathly silent; even Queenie didn't dare to breathe.

Seeing that everyone was truly at their wits' end, Shaun spoke up: "Is Fiona still alive?"

Myrtle nodded.

"But her power is draining away. Every day, every hour, every minute. Once her body gives out, the power will scatter."

Shaun said, "Then pass the power on before she gives out."

Myrtle looked at him: "To whom? Cordelia failed, and no one in the Witches Council is qualified. The others don't have enough power. You..."

She paused, looking at Shaun: "You are not a witch."

Shaun didn't speak; he knew Myrtle was right.

The power of the Supreme Witch could only be passed to a witch. He wasn't a witch, he was a Warlock, and besides... his power came from elsewhere.

Madison stood up: "Then I'll go."

Everyone looked at her.

Madison's face was a bit flushed, but her eyes were bright: "I'm a witch too, why can't it be me?"

Myrtle looked at her with a complex expression.

"Madison, you know what The Seven Wonders mean. Cordelia almost died in there just now, you..."

"I'm not afraid," Madison interrupted her.

Myrtle was silent for a moment, then shook her head.

"It's not a matter of being afraid or not, your power isn't enough! Your telekinesis is strong, but the others—Transmutation, Mind Control, Pyrokinesis, Vitalum Vitalis, Divination, Descensum—you haven't had systematic training, you won't pass."

Madison opened her mouth to argue, but no words came out.

She knew Myrtle was right.

Her telekinesis was innate and strong, but she had never seriously practiced the others.

Madison didn't like those things; she thought they were useless and that telekinesis was enough.

Now, it wasn't enough...

Cordelia's eyes moved slightly.

She slowly opened her eyes, looking at the ceiling, her voice very faint: "It's my fault, I couldn't hold on..."

"I prepared for so long, yet I still failed."

Cordelia's voice was trembling: "I thought I could do it, I thought I was ready. But when the door opened, the things I saw were too much, I couldn't hold out."

Madison took her hand: "Cordelia, it's not your fault."

Cordelia didn't speak.

She closed her eyes, tears sliding from the corners, flowing down her temples into her hair.

The daughter of the Supreme Witch, the headmistress of the Academy, the person who was one step away from becoming the Supreme Witch.

She lay on the sofa, weeping silently.

The atmosphere in the hall grew even heavier. It wasn't sadness, but powerlessness.

No one knew what to do.

Fiona was dying, Cordelia had failed, Madison wasn't qualified, and no one in the Witches Council could take the position.

A heritage of hundreds of years was about to be broken in this generation.

Shaun stood by the window, looking at the sunlight outside.

The lawn was very green, the oak trees were lush, and the iron gates were closed, quiet and peaceful.

Everything looked normal.

But he knew that beneath this silence, things were hidden that could surface at any time.

Marie Laveau was waiting in the swamp, Elizabeth was watching from the shadows, and the thing behind that low-level demon... he still didn't know what it was.

The witches were leaderless, their power was draining, and enemies were all around.

And he, a Warlock, an outsider, a policeman, stood here unable to do anything.

The golden book stirred in his mind, as if reminding him that it was still there, and the swallowed black mist was still there too.

Shaun took a deep breath and turned around.

He asked, "Must the power of the Supreme Witch be passed on through The Seven Wonders?"

Myrtle looked at him: "Those are the rules."

"Rules are flexible," Shaun said. "Fiona is dying, Cordelia failed, and you have no other candidates. Can't the rules be changed?"

Myrtle stared at him for three seconds. "How do you want to change them?"

Shaun thought for a moment: "Pass the power to Cordelia. No need for The Seven Wonders, no need for Descensum, just pass it directly."

Myrtle shook her head: "Impossible. The power of the Supreme Witch is not a gift; it cannot be given away casually."

"It requires the successor to take it themselves, to prove they are worthy of owning it. A forced transfer will cause the power to reject and backlash; both people will die."

Shaun fell silent.

He looked at Cordelia; she lay on the sofa, her tears already dry, her eyes open, staring at the ceiling, unknown what she was thinking.

Madison sat beside her, holding her hand, her face very pale.

Queenie finally picked up a potato chip but didn't eat it, just clutching it.

The sunlight in the hall moved slowly, from the floor to the wall, and from the wall to the ceiling.

Time was passing, Fiona's power was draining, and they could do nothing.

Shaun leaned against the wall and closed his eyes.

The golden book floated quietly in his mind, the pattern on the cover glowing faintly, brightening and dimming like breathing.

As if... it was constantly prompting him!

Could it be?

Shaun began to think...

The power of the Supreme Witch needed a vessel.

Fiona's body couldn't hold out, Cordelia had failed, and no other witch was qualified.

But he had the golden book.

The book could carry this power, storing it within his body until a suitable successor was found.

Fiona wouldn't die.

Once the power left her, her body would no longer have to endure it.

She would grow old, she would grow weak, but she might live...

In this way, the witch's heritage wouldn't be broken; it would just be temporarily placed with him until a suitable successor appeared, then returned.

It sounded simple... but it wouldn't be that easy.

However... this seemed to be the only way.

"I'll give it a try," Shaun said.

As soon as he said this, everyone looked at him.

Myrtle turned around, Madison looked up, and even Cordelia opened her eyes.

"What did you say?"

Myrtle's voice was flat, but her eyes narrowed.

Shaun stood up straight.

"Let Fiona pass the power to me. Not as an inheritance, but for safekeeping."

"I can carry this power; Fiona won't die, and the power won't dissipate. Once you find a suitable successor, I'll return it."

The hall was silent for a second.

Then Myrtle laughed, a very cold laugh: "You? A Warlock? Carrying the power of the Supreme Witch?"

"Do you even know what you're saying, you greedy fellow!"
