139: Dahuang pulled down my pants!

Everyone quieted down, and Feng Chenlu spoke, “We just received news from above this morning. Due to extreme high temperatures, the water treatment plant has experienced problems and requires repairs. Water supply will definitely be restored this week.”

“Before then, the officials will provide drinking water once. It will be distributed in an hour, 1 liter per household.”

The crowd instantly started arguing again.

“How can my family of four share that?”

“It’s only Tuesday today. If the officials don’t fix it until the weekend, we’ll have to last four or five days. Who can drink 1 liter of water?”

“The weather is so hot, we’ll dehydrate and die if we don’t replenish enough water. If you want us to die, just say so!”

“Then no one drinks! Let’s all just die!” Feng Chenlu screamed hysterically, pointing into the distance:

“Do you want to go outside and see what kind of life the people outside the Safety Shelter are living?!”

“Still want to drink water? Those survivors can’t even drink urine! They can only die of thirst and be sun-dried into human jerky!”

“Now that groundwater is scarce, it’s not enough for the millions of people in the Safety Shelter. The officials are trying every possible way to ensure everyone gets water. If anyone doesn’t want to live, die immediately! Give your water to others!”

Xiao Jia also said coldly, “For those who can’t bring themselves to do it, I can go find the Patrol Team and Rescue Team to help you—one bullet per person!”

Fearing that Xiao Jia would really go find the officials, everyone gradually walked out of the community.

Suddenly, a voice rang out in the crowd, it was impossible to tell if it was male or female.

“We’re here arguing our lungs out over a liter of water, but the Rich Area is living it up, holding banquets and parties all the time.”

“If we could just seize their supplies, would we still worry about not having enough to eat or drink?”

The speaker deliberately lowered their voice, so only a few people nearby could hear.

They wanted to ask if it was true, but couldn’t find the person who spoke, so they couldn’t help but share the news with their friends and family.

Some people felt a sense of injustice.

Why should the Rich Area live better than them?

In the apocalypse, everyone should share resources!

After confirming her words had spread, Zhou Wanqing quietly left the crowd and walked towards Building 2, when she suddenly saw Jiang Fei and others not far away.

After confirming the water source was fine, Jiang Fei was about to go home with her teammates, never expecting to encounter Zhou Wanqing.

Zhou Wanqing feigned composure and asked, “Boss, why are you here?”

“Just checking things out. Is your family short on water?”

Wan Qing was her employee, always eager to do the dirty and tiring work, and never caused trouble, so she could be looked after.

“No shortage. When the water supply time was reduced before, I listened to the Boss and stocked up on more water at home.”

Jiang Fei felt relieved and walked back.

Xiao Chuxia linked her left arm through Jiang Fei’s and her right arm through Zhou Wanqing’s.

“In situations like tonight, don’t go out by yourself next time. It’s too chaotic, and you’re not safe alone.”

In everyone’s eyes, Zhou Wanqing always appeared soft and easily bullied.

Zhou Wanqing nodded obediently, but her mind was on other things.

Once the survivors were in complete disarray, she could sneak into the Rich Area and avenge her Benefactor.

And she could also cultivate her own power.

She no longer wanted to be bullied by those scumbags and degenerates as she had been before.

An hour later.

Community staff went door-to-door distributing water.

With armed soldiers protecting them, no one dared to harbor thoughts of robbery.

Jiang Fei received one bottle.

It was a bit murkier than the tap water, with a little sand at the bottom, but it was drinkable after boiling.

Hopefully, the Safety Shelter can endure this heatwave.

—

Unsure how many days the water outage would last, Jiang Fei added a soup to lunch every day.

It could both supplement nutrition and replenish water.

This afternoon.

Noticing the dark circles under Zhou Wanqing’s eyes, Xiao Chuxia asked with concern, “Haven’t you been resting well lately?”

“No, I keep having nightmares at night.” Zhou Wanqing lowered her head to drink her soup, feeling guilty.

In reality, she went out every day after lunch and didn’t return until dawn, so she barely had any time to sleep.

Ling Zhaorui: “I brought some sachets back from the Planting Base. They have lavender in them, which can calm and soothe. I’ll get you two in a bit… Huh? Sister Jiang, there seems to be some movement on your balcony.”

Jiang Fei turned to look at the balcony.

After the three chicks moved to Ling Zhaorui’s house, she took out the incubator to hatch goose eggs.

Noticing a faint sound coming from the incubator, Jiang Fei walked over and opened it.

A fluffy, bright yellow gosling came into view.

It had hatched successfully!

Jiang Fei quickly poured a bowl of warm water and placed it inside.

Xiao Chuxia curiously leaned over to look, “Why are the gosling’s feathers yellow?”

“They’ll turn white when it grows up, in about half a month.”

Remembering the fertilized duck egg she had given to Ling Zhaorui, Jiang Fei asked, “Has your duck hatched?”

“No, I plan to take it back to the Planting Base to hatch. Otherwise, if the temperature drops below 50 degrees Celsius, I’ll move back to the dorm, and I’d have to move the incubator, and the duck egg can’t handle that much disturbance.”

Ling Zhaorui chuckled, “Sister Jiang, can I take care of the gosling?”

He loved raising animals.

Unfortunately, at the Planting Base, he was assigned to the planting area.

With someone offering to help care for the newly hatched gosling, Jiang Fei readily agreed.

Ling Zhaorui quickly finished his meal, carried the incubator, and returned to 304.

As he passed the sofa, Big Yellow pawed at his pants, wanting to see what was inside.

After Lunar New Year’s Eve, Lu Yu let Big Yellow out, and Jiang Fei also reopened the small door in the living room, allowing it to move freely.

“Brother Lu! Big Yellow is pawing at my pants!”

Lu Yu looked over.

Big Yellow immediately retracted its paws, skillfully rolled over to expose its belly, and meowed softly:

“Meow~”

Master, don’t listen to him talking nonsense!

I didn’t do anything!

A moment later, Ling Zhaorui returned after putting away the incubator, also bringing a bag of sachets, two for each person.

After washing the dishes, the teammates went back to their respective homes, and Jiang Fei entered the Supermarket.

The wheat in the wheat field was ripe, a golden expanse, looking exactly like her favorite gold.

Driving the combine harvester out of the Supermarket warehouse, Jiang Fei harvested one mu of wheat, totaling 1000 jin.

However, due to the lack of a flour mill, a flour cleaner, a bran machine, and other agricultural machinery, Jiang Fei was unable to process the wheat and grind it into flour.

It seemed she needed to make a trip to the Planting Base when she had time to discuss renting agricultural machinery with Kang Ansheng.

The agricultural machinery she had rented had also been overdue for a long time, and it was time to pay the rent.

After storing the wheat in the Supermarket warehouse, Jiang Fei used a rice transplanter to transplant the newly grown rice seedlings into the paddy field, and then she felt hungry.

Choosing a large watermelon from the orchard, Jiang Fei took a knife and was about to cut it when she suddenly noticed more than twenty small fish in the small pond next to it.

These past few months, she had been busy planting crops and herbs, and each time she just threw some chopped vegetables into the small pond and left it, never expecting to have such an unexpected harvest.

Jiang Fei immediately lost her appetite for watermelon and excitedly started an excavator, digging a fish pond ten meters away from the shrimp pond.

She was raising blackfish, which were delicious and best suited for steaming and hotpot, to be sold at the Safety Shelter.

Even if ordinary survivors bought them and just boiled them with salt water at home, they would still taste good.

As if she saw a small mountain of gold beckoning to her, Jiang Fei was full of drive, and dug out one mu of fish pond in one go.

She still used the water from the Supermarket’s second floor, pouring it into the fish pond.

Then, she relocated the blackfish from the small pond and put 50 new blackfish into the fish pond.

In the middle of it all, she didn’t forget to exit the Supermarket to make lunch for her teammates.

With the small pond empty, Jiang Fei caught 10 river crabs and threw them in to raise.

Crabs need seawater, and she couldn’t use the Supermarket’s water today, so she’d try raising some river crabs first.

After nearly two days of exhaustion, including staying up all night, Jiang Fei left the Supermarket and, out of habit, turned on the faucet before going to bed.

There was water, but the flow was very small, not even as thick as a chopstick.

Today happened to be Sunday, the last day the officials had mentioned.

Jiang Fei tuned her walkie-talkie to the public channel and contacted her teammates: “The water is back on.”

Lu Yu next door was the first to reply.

“It came on 5 minutes ago. At first, the flow was strong, but now it’s much smaller. It’s probably going to stop soon, so we should quickly stock up.”

Su Liuyuan: “Did you hear the noise in the corridor?”

“It sounds like someone is going to the Rich Area.”
