167: God-given food
East of the village in Huaiyuan Village.
The houses here, like those West of the village, had their windows sealed shut.
Jiang Fei was wondering how to find Xu Qianyao and the others when she suddenly glimpsed the wide-open door of a small brick house.
Taking out a silenced pistol modified by Su Liuyuan, Jiang Fei tiptoed over.
A kerosene lamp sat on the heated brick bed.
Xu Qianyao and Yin Jing, having changed into the old clothes the fatty brought, sat on either side of the kerosene lamp.
One clutched a dagger, the other a brick for defense.
Upon noticing someone enter, they immediately entered a combat-ready state.
"It's me." Jiang Fei pulled back the large hood of her raincoat, revealing her face.
The two relaxed.
Yin Jing said triumphantly to Xu Qianyao, "I told you if we left the door open, Jiang Fei would find us, didn't I?"
"You're the smartest." Xu Qianyao praised her supportively, then went next door to call Huang Wenzhou and Cao Xingying over.
Jiang Fei opened her backpack to distribute supplies.
Each person received a small walkie-talkie, a camera, a pistol, a box of bullets, 5 packs of compressed biscuits, and 5 bags of bread.
"The meat in the village is problematic; don't eat it."
Xu Qianyao hesitated, "Is it like the noodles Zhu Wende made...?"
Jiang Fei nodded.
The expressions of the group subtly changed.
Fortunately, they had all been worried about being drugged and hadn't eaten the minced meat noodles the villagers offered.
Cao Xingying was about to put away her walkie-talkie when she suddenly realized a question: "Um... Sister Jiang, were these things hidden in the outhouse?"
At her words, Xu Qianyao and the others all looked at Jiang Fei.
The supplies in their hands inexplicably seemed to carry a certain smell.
Jiang Fei: "No, I hid them in the dirt by the roadside during the day."
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Even if they really had been hidden in an outhouse, they could understand; it was a special situation.
But every time they took them out to use, thinking about it... it would inevitably be hard to accept.
They believed Jiang Fei wouldn't lie!
To prevent villagers from coming to find them, one person needed to stay in the house to handle them.
Xu Qianyao had Cao Xingying and Huang Wenzhou stay in the two brick houses, while he, Jiang Fei, and Yin Jing went out to investigate and gather evidence.
The village was shrouded in thick darkness.
Only the patter of rain could be heard, which facilitated the movements of Jiang Fei and the other two.
Passing a large brick house, its windows, resembling prison bars, caught their attention.
Holding their weapons, they cautiously approached and peered inside through the window.
A foul stench assailed them.
A kerosene lamp hung on the wall, providing illumination.
The house had been converted from a pigsty, and each filthy pen held an elderly person.
Five men and two women, with graying hair, all at least 50 years old.
Iron chains, like those used for dogs, were around their necks; it was unclear if they were alive or dead.
In the central aisle, there was a long table.
On it were tools such as a meat slicer, iron hooks, and a pig-slaughtering knife, with dark red, unidentifiable minced meat residue.
Xu Qianyao spoke in a low voice, unable to suppress his anger: "This must be the slaughterhouse One-Eyed Dragon mentioned."
"Elderly refugees, without any ability to work, and unwilling to cooperate with brainwashing, are locked up by the village like livestock, and one is regularly slaughtered and distributed for the villagers to eat."
Yin Jing gritted her teeth: "These devils, what do they even consider humans to be!"
"God-given food."
Jiang Fei said sarcastically, taking out her miniature camera to photograph the slaughterhouse.
To gather evidence as quickly as possible, Xu Qianyao decided to split up for investigation, reconvening at the brick house East of the village in two hours.
Following the map she had memorized during the day, Jiang Fei arrived at the village's food warehouse, planning to "zero-cost shop" first.
Besides the grain hoarded by the village, the granary also contained supplies plundered from refugees, as well as items for that person.
The village had only one entrance and exit, guarded by the village chief's men, and the villagers were brainwashed, so it was impossible for them to steal anything, thus the granary was unguarded.
The main door was tightly shut and impassable, so Jiang Fei set her sights on the highest ventilation opening.
Taking out her climbing gear and ascending, Jiang Fei squeezed into the granary through the ventilation opening.
The warehouse was ridiculously large, with items piled haphazardly on the ground.
Sacks of rice, flour, beans, and other grains were piled into small mountains.
Only near the entrance were several large wooden shelves.
Wooden boxes and cardboard boxes were neatly arranged on the shelves.
Both types of boxes were tied and sealed with cloth strips.
Jiang Fei walked over curiously and opened a cardboard box.
It contained cleaned gold, silver, and jewelry.
Oh!
An unexpected harvest!
Jiang Fei began rummaging through the boxes, collecting all gold ornaments and gold bars into her Supermarket.
A total of 3,670,000 grams.
She also received 10 flashbangs, 15 smoke grenades, 3 hand grenades, and 5 full-coverage helmets specifically for protection against flashbangs and smoke grenades.
For the empty boxes, Jiang Fei filled them with bricks, stones, and junk from her Supermarket warehouse to replace the weight of the original items.
Then, she re-tied the cloth strips exactly as they were.
Jiang Fei wasn't interested in other food or medicine.
She had better.
It would be better to leave them for the authorities once the village's situation was resolved.
There was nothing good left on the wooden shelves, so Jiang Fei went to search other areas.
Undamaged drone sets, sprinkler machines, small incubators, insecticides, rock candy, binoculars, alcohol lamps, gas cylinders, and more—it was as if she were browsing her own home, taking anything good she saw into her Supermarket warehouse.
She didn't take much, so the villagers wouldn't notice anything missing if they came in.
Spotting a document pressed under some miscellaneous items, Jiang Fei pulled it out.
It was a Safety Shelter Rescue Team ID, name Hao Xuan.
Not knowing the person, Jiang Fei put the ID away, intending to ask Xu Qianyao about it later.
After searching the warehouse and exiting the way she came, Jiang Fei looked for houses where refugees were imprisoned nearby.
There were very few residential houses in this part of the granary; basically, no villagers lived there.
Jiang Fei was about to move to another location when she inadvertently saw a brick house with a red cloth strip tied to its door, and her breath hitched.
Memories of the brutal torment from her previous life flooded back like a broken dam.
Seeing that the door was bolted from the outside, clearly indicating someone was locked inside, Jiang Fei walked over and, trembling, moved aside the stick blocking the door.
A damp, moldy smell wafted out.
Several bundles of dry firewood were piled in the corner.
A girl sat on the ground with her back against the firewood pile, her hands tightly gripping two branches.
The sharp ends were plunged into her heart.
Her top was completely stained red with blood.
Her pants were tossed to the side, revealing legs covered in wounds.
She had already committed suicide.
She was a victim of cruel humiliation and abuse by the villagers.
In her previous life, Jiang Zixuan had also tried to use such methods to humiliate her, who was barely clinging to life, and then have the villagers eat her.
At that time, she desperately snatched a kerosene lamp, lit the place, and perished in the sea of fire, gaining a chance at rebirth.
But what about this girl who committed suicide... and the survivors who were previously locked in the woodshed? Did they have a chance to live again?
Jiang Fei suppressed the hatred in her heart, picked up the pants, put them on the dead girl, and then took her picture.
Once she found out who the mastermind behind the village was, she wouldn't let any of those beastly devils go.
Time was almost up, so Jiang Fei closed the woodshed door and returned to Xu Qianyao's residence East of the village.
Xu Qianyao and Yin Jing had returned a few minutes earlier than Jiang Fei.
Yin Jing's eyes were slightly red with anger as she showed everyone the photos on her camera: "I found a place where young women are imprisoned; their minds are all broken, either foolish or insane."
"No matter what the villagers do to them, they don't know how to resist."
"They're simply beasts! They don't even spare the sick!"
Xu Qianyao was equally indignant: "I saw a pile of human bones and skulls behind the mountain; that's where the villagers dispose of bodies, a garbage dump."
Cao Xingying looked at the photos on Xu Qianyao's camera and asked, confused:
"Why are there so many red cloth strips in this place? Is it an important clue?"
