192: Jiang Fei: Fate is indescribable

Jiang Fei organized the boxes for loading.

There were a total of 20 large cardboard boxes and 5 large iron boxes.

Two large trucks were enough to hold them.

Leaving the Supermarket, it was already midnight. Her teammates had all gone home after work. Jiang Fei put on her helmet and combat uniform, and first went to deliver clothes and boots to Lu Yu, who lived closest.

"I exchanged these with Xu Qianyao. I heard they're made of special material that's anti-cut and anti-puncture, much more convenient than wearing a cold-weather suit."

"Go try them on and see if they fit."

Lu Yu obediently took the clothes and boots to the bathroom.

A moment later, he came out, having changed.

The combat uniform was a slim-fit style, perfectly showcasing Lu Yu's golden ratio. His narrow waist, especially, was cinched by a belt, making his shoulders appear wider and his legs longer.

Jiang Fei was momentarily dazed.

Her teammate must be a natural clothes hanger; everything looked good on him.

Just then, Lu Yu looked up.

The corners of his eyes curved slightly, as if ripples spread across water.

"What do you think?"

"It's good. I'll go deliver them to the others." Jiang Fei lowered her head unnaturally and left.

Lu Yu remained in place, still watching Jiang Fei's retreating figure.

His neighbor was also wearing a combat uniform.

So, were they... matching outfits?

Jiang Fei went home to get the other two sets of combat uniforms and boots, then delivered them to Xiao Chuxia and Su Liuyuan.

The sizes were all suitable.

Ling Zhaorui's set was temporarily kept at her home.

Since she had to pretend to be waiting for the boss to deliver goods, Jiang Fei continued to get up early every day and went out with the Rescue Team to catch locusts.

She planned to go to the Planting Base on Sunday in a few days.

The Rescue Team's task changed from catching 10 bags of locusts per person to 30 bags.

Perhaps it was because the locusts couldn't find food there, or because the Rescue Team caught them daily, but the number of insects significantly decreased.

Previously, going out meant being surrounded by swarms of locusts, but now that no longer happened, and visibility exceeded one meter.

That day, after work in the evening, Jiang Fei drove her pickup truck and stopped in a secluded, uninhabited spot.

She put away the pickup truck and took out two large trucks to load the goods.

Afterward, she used the walkie-talkie to contact Xu Qianyao to come find her.

Before he arrived, Jiang Fei got into one of the large trucks and placed several boxes of supplies, including Ling Zhaorui's combat uniform and boots, on the back seat of the cab.

About ten minutes later, Xu Qianyao arrived in a police car.

Jiang Fei gave the key to the other truck to Xu Qianyao, and the two then went to the Planting Base.

To protect against locusts, a huge plastic shed had been erected here, safeguarding the Base.

Brazier were also placed at each entrance and exit to drive away locusts.

Jiang Fei had called Ling Zhaorui in advance using the walkie-talkie.

Under his guidance, she and Xu Qianyao drove into the Base.

Inside, there was no trace of locusts.

However, the once prominent greenhouses now lay collapsed on the ground.

All the fields had been ravaged by locusts beyond recognition, a scene of desolation.

Workers were currently sifting through the soil for locust eggs.

The situation was more severe than Jiang Fei had anticipated.

"Does the Safety Shelter still have food for everyone to eat?" Ling Zhaorui's voice came from outside the truck.

"Sister Jiang, let's park the trucks here. I'll take you to see the teacher."

Jiang Fei and Xu Qianyao got out of the truck, handed the keys to Ling Zhaorui, along with the inventory list.

"The supplies for you are in the cab of my truck; don't mix them up."

Ling Zhaorui nodded, made a note, and called his colleagues to come and move the boxes from the truck compartment. Then he led the two to the Base Leader's office.

Kang Ansheng sat wearily in his chair.

His body, previously ailing from Mr. Shang's provocations, had long since recovered, but due to the Planting Base's situation, he hadn't slept well for several days, and his eyes were bloodshot.

His eyelids drooped, and he looked utterly spiritless.

Ling Zhaorui: "Teacher, Jiang Fei and Captain Xu have come to deliver fruit and vegetable seeds by Director Ning's order."

"Here is the inventory list."

Kang Ansheng took it to examine.

One second he was listless, the next he was excited.

"There's even wheat and rice?!"

Jiang Fei: "They are all unprocessed."

"If you want to make them into rice and flour, you'll need to do it yourselves."

"That's not a problem. There are plenty of agricultural machines at the Base." Kang Ansheng pointed to several items on the list and said to Ling Zhaorui:

"Send these to my laboratory."

Ling Zhaorui noted the items and went to do as instructed. Kang Ansheng got up to pour water for Jiang Fei and Xu Qianyao.

"Little Jiang, you've really helped the Safety Shelter a great deal this time."

"The locusts ate all the crops and seeds at the Base. Now we want to plant, but we don't know what to plant."

"If it weren't for that bastard Mr. Shang's father, who destroyed the greenhouses to create chaos and spread the virus, we could have preserved some of the crops."

Mentioning Mr. Shang and Shang Guangwang made Kang Ansheng's teeth itch with hatred.

Those father and son truly deserved to die!

"Fortunately, all the medicinal herbs are at the Research Institute, and the Base's livestock and poultry were not affected."

"As long as we can cultivate fast-growing, high-yield crops, we can solve the Safety Shelter's food crisis."

Jiang Fei became interested: "Can I stay and learn?"

More skills never hurt.

Moreover, she had never formally studied planting knowledge; it was entirely due to the special properties of the Supermarket's soil that she could grow anything successfully.

Kang Ansheng readily agreed.

He liked eager learners, and perhaps Little Jiang could become his new student.

Jiang Fei decided to stay at the Planting Base temporarily.

She had Xu Qianyao drive the large truck back to the Safety Shelter and hand it over to Su Liuyuan of Ping An Supermarket.

The other truck was left for her use.

She also gave a copy of the inventory list to Xu Qianyao for him to pass on to Director Ning.

When Ling Zhaorui returned after finishing his tasks and learned that Jiang Fei was staying, he took her to the female dormitory.

"Sister Jiang, the dormitory has basic daily necessities and 24-hour water supply. If you need anything, just tell me."

Jiang Fei hummed in acknowledgment, then suddenly noticed that the vicinity looked familiar.

Had she been here before?

"Mother Jiang!"

The door to a neighboring bungalow opened, and Dao Rong ran out, happily hugging Jiang Fei:

"Are you here to see me!"

Jiang Fei finally remembered.

This was Dao Rong's dormitory! She had been here once when she picked up the child last time!

"Are there any other empty rooms?"

Ling Zhaorui shook his head: "There are few rooms in the female dormitory, and this is the only one vacant."

Jiang Fei looked at Dao Rong, who was clinging to her neck like a pendant, and let out a long sigh to the sky.

Fate truly works in mysterious ways.

—

Jiang Fei stayed at the Planting Base for a full half-month.

Every day she was either learning with Kang Ansheng or being clung to by Dao Rong. She could now read notes while listening to the child chatter, and even feed Dao Rong fruit along the way.

It wasn't until Xu Qianyao sent someone to notify her to pick up the gold at the police station that Jiang Fei bid farewell to Kang Ansheng and others, and drove the large truck away from the Planting Base.

The number of locusts had become even fewer.

They could no longer pose a threat, so some survivors stopped wearing protective gear, unafraid of being infected with the virus.

With traditional Chinese medicine soup and the new special medicine, the Safety Shelter's epidemic was considered over. Now, people infected with the virus would at most suffer from a fever for a few days before recovering.

As Jiang Fei drove into a commercial street, she saw a crowd gathered outside an official store.

"Why are food purchases restricted?!"
