166: Cannibal Village

The fat man looked at the bag Jiang Fei was carrying: "The things in the bag must also be checked."

Xu Qianyao’s eyes flashed, and he feigned suspicion: "Why does your village have so many rules? Is there something wrong with it?"

"We only have that much supplies left. What if you take advantage of the situation and steal them? Who would we complain to…"

"Hiss—that hurts." Jiang Fei suddenly bent over and clutched her stomach: "I might have eaten something bad. Where is the restroom?"

The fat man: "Aunt Hua, take her outside to relieve herself."

The woman called "Aunt Hua" took Jiang Fei with an umbrella to the nearest outhouse.

The door was a simple wooden board, and a wire wrapped around a nearby nail served as a lock.

Enduring the stench inside, Jiang Fei quickly put the walkie-talkie and other items from her backpack into the Supermarket warehouse.

She took out half a pack of tissues to make it look like she had used them, waited a few minutes, rubbed her stomach, opened the door, and walked out.

"Finally, I feel better."

Aunt Hua poked her head in and scanned the outhouse, confirming there was nothing suspicious, then returned to the small house with Jiang Fei, looking disgusted.

Xu Qianyao was still bickering with the fat man.

"That’s enough, you! My feet are sore and aching, I’m exhausted. Let them finish searching quickly so we can lie down and rest."

Jiang Fei "impatiently" interrupted Xu Qianyao and threw her backpack onto the table.

When the villagers weren't looking, she gave Xu Qianyao a meaningful glance.

Guessing that Jiang Fei had hidden the items, Xu Qianyao cooperatively said: "Alright, alright, I won’t say anything else. You can search."

The fat man was responsible for searching the men, and Aunt Hua searched the women, as well as their backpacks.

Finding no identification, firearms, or other items, the two were completely relieved.

As for the daggers Lu Yu and Xu Qianyao carried, the fat man didn't find it strange.

It was the apocalypse; who didn't have something for self-defense?

"I'll take you to see the Village Chief now and arrange temporary accommodation for you."

The fat man walked ahead to lead the way, also bringing a few transparent umbrellas and distributing them to Jiang Fei and the others.

Along the way, villagers with umbrellas could be seen chatting and laughing.

Some squatted at their doorways, washing potatoes and sweet potatoes with rainwater.

Everyone's clothes were clean, and their faces wore happy and contented smiles.

Noticing strangers entering the village, everyone greeted them warmly and kindly.

"You must be new family members, hello!"

"Look how dirty your clothes are. Come to my house later, I'll wash them clean for you for free."

"My family is making potato stew with meat tonight. Come and eat if you're free."

Hearing the villagers call them "family," Huang Wenzhou lowered his voice to grumble: "Why does it feel so strange, like a term used in a pyramid scheme?"

Yin Jing secretly made a gesture, signaling Huang Wenzhou to shut up, lest the fat man ahead hear them.

Meanwhile, Jiang Fei surveyed her surroundings.

In her previous life, she had entered Huaiyuan Village and been locked in the woodshed, never coming out. But from the villagers' scattered words, she could confirm that the village was managed like a pyramid scheme.

The villagers regarded the Village Chief as a god, obeying his every word.

Even becoming food for everyone, the villagers were willing to be slaughtered.

The other villagers, knowing it was the flesh of their own kind, still ate with relish, saying it was food bestowed upon them by the heavens.

A group of brainwashed lunatics.

Hiding the disgust in her eyes, Jiang Fei followed the fat man into the only two-story brick house in the village.

Sitting on a chair in the living room on the first floor was an old man in his fifties with a goatee, and a pair of triangular eyes that made him look cunning and treacherous.

The fat man respectfully presented the registration information written by Jiang Fei and the others with both hands:

"Village Chief, these few are passing refugees who wish to rest in the village."

The Village Chief took the registration information and looked at it, feeling very satisfied.

They were all so young.

"I remember there are two empty houses East of the village, and one West of the village."

"The East of the village has a good view; you send the girls to live there, and the gentlemen can live East of the village."

Yin Jing immediately hugged Xu Qianyao’s arm: "No! I want to live with my dear darling! Otherwise, I'll be scared!"

Huang Wenzhou put his arm around Cao Xingying, his expression doting: "Stars and I swore we would never be separated for a moment."

Jiang Fei really couldn't imitate their act, so she simply held Lu Yu's hand, fingers intertwined, leaning on him dependently, pretending not to want to be separated.

Feeling the soft and delicate touch in her palm, Lu Yu's eyelashes trembled slightly.

The neighbor's hand, so small and soft.

Unexpectedly, they were three couples, and the Village Chief frowned: "Then you can choose your own houses."

Eventually, it was decided that Jiang Fei and Lu Yu would live West of the village.

Xu Qianyao and the others would live East of the village.

Before leaving, Jiang Fei distributed the water from her backpack to the group.

When it was Xu Qianyao's turn, she quickly whispered: "I'll come find you tonight."

Afterward, Jiang Fei and Lu Yu followed Aunt Hua away.

The house West of the village was a small brick house, located on the edge, with no neighbors on either side.

The small brick house was about 40 square meters.

There was an earthen kang for sleeping, a stove for cooking, the windows were bricked up, and the walls were moldy.

The door was made of iron and had a bolt lock.

The outhouse was behind the small brick house.

Aunt Hua called two women to bring Jiang Fei a bedroll and pillow, an empty water bucket, a kerosene lamp, an old-fashioned enamel washbasin, a roll of toilet paper, a towel, two sets of old clothes, two raincoats, and a large bowl of noodles with minced meat.

"The weather isn't cold now, this thin quilt is enough for you. If you need water, take the bucket outside to collect rainwater."

"The noodles aren't cold yet, eat quickly."

Jiang Fei had no habit of eating her own kind, and thanked her gratefully: "Thank you, Aunt Hua."

"I want to… shower first, let him eat his fill first."

Saying this, the girl looked at Lu Yu shyly, then lowered her head, seemingly embarrassed.

Aunt Hua was an experienced woman and immediately understood what Jiang Fei intended to do, smiling ambiguously: "I won't disturb you two."

It's good to be young. Even after being so tired, they still think about doing such things!

After they left, Jiang Fei locked the door.

Turning around, she saw Lu Yu looking at her with a subtle expression.

"Cough, that was to get rid of them earlier."

Lu Yu: "I understand."

He just didn't know that his neighbor would say such bold words.

"The food West of the village can't be eaten. They might drug it. I'll get you some bread." Jiang Fei took out two bags of bread and two bottles of clean drinking water from her bag.

She and Lu Yu each had a share.

After eating the bread, Jiang Fei used her backpack to take out a pack of wet wipes and wiped the mud from her face.

Lu Yu didn't ask for wet wipes, but curiously stared at the backpack on the kang.

It seemed that when a backpack was in the neighbor's hands, it became very spacious?

—

Late at night.

Jiang Fei opened a crack in the door to observe outside.

There was no electricity in the village; everything was lit by kerosene lamps. Now, every household was resting, and the surroundings were plunged into darkness.

Without changing her dirty clothes, Jiang Fei put on her raincoat, slung on her bag, and said to Lu Yu:

"I'm going to retrieve the things I hid during the day."

With that, Jiang Fei slipped out.

She walked a short distance from the small brick house and entered the Supermarket.

She went to the warehouse, retrieved a ready-made meal she had prepared earlier, ate her fill, and then exited, putting the bag and food into her backpack.

Returning to the small brick house, Jiang Fei gave Lu Yu his share of firearms, a camera, and other items.

"I'm going to meet up with Xu Qianyao. You stay here to prevent villagers from checking in the middle of the night. If anything happens, contact me on the walkie-talkie."

"Okay." Lu Yu put away the items, then suddenly paused.

The neighbor had only gone to the outhouse during the day.

So, were these things hidden there...?
