254: Hot Rain
A few raindrops fell on the pickup truck's windshield.
Jiang Fei turned on the car's wipers.
Why is it suddenly raining?
Pedestrians on the road were equally puzzled.
Some used items in their hands or their coats to shield from the rain, quickening their pace home.
Others continued to walk leisurely, unconcerned by the raindrops.
"It's a rare rain, it can clear the air. Why are you all running so fast?"
"It's not a heavy rain, it'll probably stop soon."
"You're not afraid of catching a cold, but we are. Seeing a doctor at the base Hospital isn't expensive, but a box of cold medicine costs ten contribution points."
"That's because you're not healthy. How could you catch a cold from just a few drops of rain... Ah! So hot!"
The man speaking quickly covered his forehead, subconsciously looking up at the sky.
Splash—!
The small raindrops from the previous second instantly turned into a downpour, accompanied by rising heat, as if a pot of boiling water had been poured down.
"Ah!!!"
The man who was indifferent just a moment ago let out a shrill scream and fell to the ground, his eyes too painful to open, his skin visibly scalded red.
"Save me... Please, save me..."
No one heeded his cries for help.
Thick steam obscured vision, and everyone was frantically searching for a place to hide.
For a time, agonizing wails and curses rose and fell.
"Ah ah ah my scalp hurts so much!"
"Move! Don't block my way!"
"Who pushed me from behind without looking! Ah, my eyes are scalded by the hot rain!"
To avoid hitting pedestrians, Jiang Fei had just pulled over and stopped the car when—crunch!
The front windshield suddenly shattered, and scalding hot rain poured in.
Jiang Fei quickly closed her eyes and entered the Supermarket, but she was a second too slow.
Splintered glass cut her face and the corner of her eye.
Hot rain also splashed onto her skin, bringing a burning sensation as if she were on fire.
Fortunately, her eyes were fine. Jiang Fei endured the pain and went to the Supermarket warehouse to get a large bottle of spring water, rinsing the scalded areas.
After cooling down, she unwrapped the miraculous ointment she had drawn last time.
The milky white ointment emitted a faint scent of traditional Chinese medicine. She first applied it to her scalded arm.
The ointment was cool and quickly absorbed.
Almost at the same time, the stinging sensation in her arm disappeared.
Jiang Fei applied the ointment to other scalded areas.
Including the long, thin cuts on her face from the shattered glass.
The pickup truck was old and had been extensively repaired after a previous collision. The aftermarket window glass was not as sturdy as the original, so it shattered when exposed to a large amount of hot rain.
But in her previous life, there had never been hot rain.
Is this a new natural disaster?
Jiang Fei thought while finding her walkie-talkie and calling her friends.
Su Liuyuan at the Ping An Small Mall was the first to reply:
"Captain, it's raining boiling water outside right now, it can scald people's flesh. Make sure you stay home and don't come out."
Jiang Fei: "I'm already out, but I'm in a very safe place. When the rain outside stops, tell me on the walkie-talkie."
Fearing her friends would worry, Jiang Fei didn't mention her injuries.
Guessing that Jiang Fei must have hidden in the Supermarket, Su Liuyuan agreed to her request.
Lu Yu, Ling Zhaorui, and Xiao Chuxia also contacted Jiang Fei and others using their walkie-talkies.
After confirming everyone was safe, Lu Yu and the other two shared the news that they wouldn't be returning home.
For safety, the authorities had them temporarily stay at their workplaces.
Unable to go out, Jiang Fei took fresh fruits and vegetables to feed the cattle, sheep, chickens, geese, and rabbits, and also checked on the fertilized eggs in the incubator.
There were no signs of hatching yet.
All the Supermarket chores were done, so Jiang Fei, with nothing to do, lay in the rocking chair by the entrance of the plantation and read Kang Ansheng's notes.
She wasn't worried about Big Yellow at home.
The villa's doors and windows were of good quality, all closed before she left. There was enough food and water for four or five days, so Big Yellow would be fine at home.
After nearly a day in the Supermarket, the walkie-talkie rang again.
Su Liuyuan: "Captain, the hot rain has stopped, but I don't know if it will start again."
"My location is closest to the mall, I'll head over in a bit."
Cutting off communication, Jiang Fei quickly checked her injuries.
The scalds and cuts had healed, her skin restored to its original state, as if she had never been injured.
Truly Supermarket-produced!
Amazing!
Putting on rain boots, Jiang Fei found a thickened umbrella and exited the Supermarket.
The surrounding air was filled with scorching steam.
It was stuffy and humid, like the initial days of the humid spring weather.
The seat beneath her was also damp and scalding hot.
Jiang Fei immediately got out of the car and opened her umbrella.
There was no one on the road. She put the abandoned pickup truck into the Supermarket warehouse and ran towards the Ping An Small Mall.
Even through her rain boots, she could feel the temperature of the standing water on the road, like soaking her feet.
Occasionally, she would see people collapsed by the roadside.
Their exposed skin was covered in blisters of varying sizes, dense and unsettling to look at.
These were people who hadn't found shelter in time and were scalded to death by the hot rain.
Passing by the bodies, one could even smell the faint, raw odor of cooked meat.
Jiang Fei unconsciously held her breath and ran all the way to the Ping An Small Mall.
Su Liuyuan had opened the door for her in advance.
Once Jiang Fei was inside, Su Liuyuan closed the main door and locked it again.
Noticing that he had removed his leg brace, Jiang Fei asked, "Did you go to the Hospital for a follow-up?"
"Yes, Han Yang drove me a few days ago. The doctor said I'm recovering well and told me to start living normally, but I'm a bit unaccustomed to standing and walking after so long."
"Captain, why are your pants wet?"
"It looks like you peed your pants..."
"I accidentally sat in some water," Jiang Fei replied calmly, suddenly noticing the person sitting at the cashier.
"Old Mr. Mo?"
"Hi, Miss Jiang." Father Mo greeted her with a chuckle:
"I came to the Ping An Small Mall yesterday to see the fish, but then the hot rain fell, and I got trapped here."
Su Liuyuan whispered to Jiang Fei, "Old Mr. Mo has recorded all his expenses, and once it's safe to go home, he'll send someone to deliver gold."
"He even included the diesel cost for the generator."
"Yesterday, the hot rain damaged the power lines, and the entire base lost power. Our mall has electricity because Han Yang and the others hooked up the generator."
Given Father Mo's actions, Jiang Fei naturally couldn't say anything.
"The hot rain might fall again. Everyone should stay in the mall these next few days."
"I'm going to change my pants."
Jiang Fei went to the storeroom, locked the door, and casually put the gold she had recently earned into the Supermarket.
System: [Ding—Detected gold: 22,340,000 grams]
[Current unlock progress: 99%]
Only 1% short again, Jiang Fei was already tired of complaining. She entered the Supermarket to change her clothes and shoes.
Exiting, she moved Little Black's belongings to the first floor of the mall.
Little Black is a medium to large-sized dog and needs to be walked daily to maintain its health and burn energy, preventing it from tearing up the house.
Previously, Han Yang would take it out once a day, but with the hot rain, it wasn't safe, so it just ran around in the mall instead.
The space was large enough for Little Black to do as it pleased.
Seeing Little Black running around on the first floor, Father Mo narrowed his eyes:
"Isn't that the dog Yan Qiantong raised?"
