306: Moss City

While the yacht hadn't reached Mos City yet, Jiang Fei returned to her room and entered the Supermarket warehouse to search for expired supplies.

Otherwise, when she needed supplies to smooth things over upon entering the city, she would have to find them on the spot.

There weren't many expired supplies in the warehouse, so Jiang Fei picked some cheap, ordinary items to make up the numbers.

She packed a total of 10 large boxes.

Although some of the food was past its expiration date, the packaging was clean and tidy, not at all like something found in the apocalypse.

To avoid suspicion, Jiang Fei planned to make them look old.

She exited the Supermarket and brought Su Liuyuan, Ling Zhaorui, and Xiao Chuxia in to help.

Jiang Fei told them what to do.

“For puffed-up food items like bread and instant noodles, use a needle to deflate them, then crumple the packaging bags.”

“For plastic bottles, glass bottles, and cans, use a small knife to scratch them.”

“Tear open the cigarettes, keep only the tobacco, then put all the tobacco into small bags, spray some water, seal them, and let them get damp.”

After instructing the three, Jiang Fei went outside the warehouse and scooped a large basin of dirt from the ground.

She returned, added some water, and mixed it into mud.

She smeared it haphazardly on the packaging bags, then set them aside to dry.

The four worked quickly.

In less than an hour, the supplies in the boxes were dirty and showed signs of age.

After putting the boxes away, Jiang Fei retrieved several sets of old clothes, shoes, straw hats, and the darkest yellow foundation, distributing them to the three.

“We don’t know what the situation is like in Mos City, so for safety, let’s disguise ourselves.”

“Go to the tents outside and change into these old clothes and shoes, but still wear your thermal clothing underneath. Apply the foundation to any exposed skin.”

“Then we’ll pretend to be wandering survivors going to Mos City.”

Su Liuyuan and the others took the items and followed her instructions.

Jiang Fei also went into one of the tents to change.

She had chosen thin, high-collared jackets and long pants, so only her hands and face would be exposed.

After applying the yellowish-brown foundation, Jiang Fei put on a straw hat and walked out.

She looked up and saw three sallow faces.

Paired with the large, tattered straw hats on their heads, it looked somewhat comical.

Especially with the holes in their clothes.

It felt like they could hold a bowl and go begging for food.

Su Liuyuan picked up a stick and joked, “I am the Beggar Gang Leader!”

Ling Zhaorui: “Gang Leader, your shoelace is untied.”

Su Liuyuan silently bent down to tie his shoelace, and Jiang Fei and Xiao Chuxia couldn’t help but laugh.

Taking the three out of the Supermarket, Jiang Fei went to deliver clothes, shoes, and foundation to Mo Yanan, Mu Qingzhou, and Lu Yu.

Soon, there were three more sallow-skinned vagrants on the ship.

Lu Yu navigated to a secluded beach according to the pirate's map, making it convenient for Jiang Fei to put away the yacht.

With Mu Qingzhou present, Jiang Fei feigned, “I’ll go find a place to hide the yacht. You all go to the withered forest over there and wait for me.”

After Lu Yu and the others left, Jiang Fei brought Big Yellow and Little Black into the Supermarket.

Big Yellow was kept in the cat villa, and Little Black was tied next to the dog house.

Exiting the Supermarket, Jiang Fei checked her surroundings.

Confirming no one was around, she put away the yacht and replaced it with an old minivan.

She took out two bags of expired supplies and put them in the trunk, then got in the car and drove to the withered forest in the distance.

Lu Yu and the others had intentionally blocked Mu Qingzhou’s view the entire time, so he did not see the yacht disappear into thin air.

Jiang Fei stopped the car and offered a perfunctory explanation:

“This is a car I used to keep on the yacht. We’ll drive it to Mos City.”

Mu Qingzhou didn’t think much of it.

He had seen a helipad on the yacht.

It wasn’t strange for a yacht to carry a car.

Lu Yu gave Jiang Fei the map of Mos City.

Mos City was about 300 kilometers from the coast, and the roads were rugged and difficult to drive on.

It was almost evening when Jiang Fei and the others finally arrived at the only entrance/exit to Mos City.

Seven or eight armed foreign strong men guarded the place.

Seeing a car approaching, they simultaneously raised their guns.

The leading strong man shouted in English, “Stop, check for passes.”

Jiang Fei cooperated, stopped the car, rolled down the window, and communicated in English, “We don’t have passes.”

“We are survivors who wandered here. We heard that conditions in Mos City are better than outside, so we came.”

Assuming their car was scavenged, the strong man clicked his tongue, “You’re quite lucky.”

“To enter the city, each person must pay one jin of rice.”

“Bread, instant noodles, canned goods, whatever you can offer.”

“Why is it so expensive…” Jiang Fei feigned dissatisfaction and complained.

“Because the city entry qualification includes your accommodation,” the strong man said impatiently.

“Come in or don’t, if not, get lost.”

Jiang Fei: “We’ll come in.”

“We have bread, instant noodles, and beer in the car. How does that count?”

The strong man's eyes lit up.

Beer was a rare and good item.

“One bottle of beer per person, three bags of bread per person, two bags of instant noodles per person.”

Jiang Fei got out of the car, not rushing to get the supplies, but instead, under the cover of her pocket, took out a dirty sausage and handed it to the strong man.

“What kind of accommodation does Mos City arrange for us?”

With a bribe, the strong man’s attitude improved significantly from before: “Generally, incoming survivors are arranged to live in the factory buildings in the refugee area, hundreds of people crammed together.”

“No matter who they are, they can freely enter and exit the factory buildings, with no safety or privacy.”

“If you have enough supplies, I suggest you offer more to exchange for a Tube Building.”

“The environment there is better than the factory buildings, and there are independent bathrooms.”

“You seven people, with men and women, two rooms should be enough.”

Jiang Fei: “If we exchange for a Tube Building, how many more supplies do we each need to add?”

“Add three bags of instant noodles per person,” the strong man’s tone became flirtatious.

“However, if you and that girl in the car play with me for a bit, I can give you a discount.”

The strong man was about to put his hand on Jiang Fei’s shoulder.

A pistol was pressed against his side.

“Do you want your kidney?”

At the same time, Lu Yu in the passenger seat raised his gun and aimed it at the strong man.

Unexpectedly, they had guns. The strong man awkwardly withdrew his hand: “Just a little joke.”

“According to the supplies we just discussed, I’ll upgrade you to a Tube Building for free.”

“Deal.” Jiang Fei went to the bags in the trunk to get the supplies.

Three cans of beer, three bags of bread, and six bags of instant noodles were exchanged for two Tube Building room keys, two maps of Mos City, and seven passes.

The so-called pass was a small card with a red-drawn grimace (ghost face) on it, extremely perfunctory.

Jiang Fei drove into Mos City.

It had suffered from tsunamis and floods; most of the original buildings had been washed away.

The mud houses and brick houses visible now were built afterward, giving one the illusion of returning to a rural area in the 80s.

There weren't many pedestrians on the road.

But from their appearance, it was clear that Mos City had people from all countries.

They wore old clothes, and their exposed skin had red spots and rashes of varying sizes.

They were dense, causing physiological discomfort.

The dark circles under their eyes were also heavier than each other.

Already thin with sunken eye sockets and dark circles, they looked like terrifying, gloomy little ghosts.

Without sunscreen or protective gear, and with food scarce, these people had to endure not only hunger but also the torment of the polar day.

Noticing many critically ill survivors curled up on the dirty roadside, lying numbly in the sun, awaiting death, Xiao Chuxia frowned:

“Doesn’t Mos City have a Hospital?”

Su Liuyuan: “Unclear.”

“Even if there is, medical treatment is probably very expensive.”

Suddenly, Mo Yanan in the back seat spoke.

“Goddess Sister, I’ll get off here.”

Mu Qingzhou: “I’ll get off too.”

Jiang Fei stopped the car: “Aren’t you coming with us to the Tube Building?”

The two shook their heads.

Mo Yanan: “I plan to live in the factory area.”

He had to survive on his own and couldn't depend on Goddess Sister.

Mu Qingzhou had the same idea: “We agreed at the beginning that we would separate once we reached land.”

“Miss Jiang, you’ve taken care of me for so long, I’m already very grateful. When I settle down, I’ll find a way to return those supplies to you.”

After all, his relationship with Miss Jiang hadn't reached the level of Su Liuyuan and the others.

One should be more sensible.

Jiang Fei did not try to keep Mo Yanan and Mu Qingzhou, she just gave them the two bags of supplies from the trunk.

She secretly put a pistol and a box of matching bullets in each bag.

The bags were black, so the contents couldn't be seen from the outside.

“See you again if fate allows.”

Jiang Fei got in the car and started it.

With the map provided by the strong man guard, they successfully arrived at the Tube Building.

The Tube Building was also built afterward, with only three floors.

Each floor had a long corridor connecting many rooms.

There were at least ten households on each floor.

The keys had tags with room numbers written on them: one was 301, and the other was 302.

Jiang Fei and the four others went up to the third floor.

301 and 302 were very close to the stairs.

Upon arriving, Jiang Fei saw miscellaneous items and trash piled up at the doorway.

Things like wooden boards, bricks, plastic buckets, cardboard, and rebar, completely blocking the door.

Su Liuyuan: “Captain, how should we deal with this?”

“Ask the neighbors. If no one wants it, throw it away.”

Saying that, Jiang Fei went to knock on the door of 303 next door, and just as she was about to open her mouth to state her identity, creak—

As the wooden door opened, a rusty cleaver swung down.
