281: Jiang Fei: I am the boss
Jiang Fei opened the back door of the storeroom.
It was Mo Yanan.
“Why did you use the back door?”
“There were too many customers at the front door, I couldn’t squeeze in, and I forgot my walkie-talkie, so I could only try my luck at the back door.” Mo Yanan handed Jiang Fei the four document bags he was holding:
“These contain the personal information forms of Kong Linlan’s relatives and friends, twelve people in total.”
“They are all locals from the Capital. When the Base was first established last year, they registered their information, so their old photos can be found.”
“I don’t know what you need these for, so I prepared three extra copies.”
Mo Yanan boldly guessed, “Sister Jiang Fei, do you want to kill them?”
“No, I’m doing this to get revenge on Kong Linlan.” Jiang Fei told Mo Yanan her plan.
After listening, Mo Yanan also agreed with Jiang Fei’s approach, “Although finding the Base Leader could resolve this matter, it wouldn’t be as satisfying as your method.”
“Moreover, Kong Linlan often uses her position as the person in charge of the military store to exploit ordinary residents. By doing this, you are helping them vent their frustration, and more customers will come to Ping An.”
Jiang Fei had not known about this.
She wanted to deal with Kong Linlan simply because the other party had provoked her first.
Mo Yanan’s car was parked in the alley outside the back door, and he hadn’t brought anyone with him. Jiang Fei walked over, took abalone and vermicelli from the Supermarket warehouse, and put them into the trunk.
Recalling what Jiang Zhengkang had said last night, she asked,
“Can you get a spot at Yucai Academy?”
Xiao Jin Yang holds a high position in the Capital, so it should be no problem.
However, Mo Yanan shook his head, “Yucai Academy is managed by the military; aristocratic families can’t interfere.”
“Not just anyone can get in there. Besides passing the Yucai Academy interview and submitting supplies as a deposit, one also needs the Base Leader’s approval.”
“Even people from aristocratic families have to follow the proper procedures.”
“It is said that Yucai Academy even investigates students’ family backgrounds to assess their character.”
“After all, learning resources are very scarce in the apocalypse, and the authorities don’t want people to sneak in and waste them.”
That’s quite troublesome.
On second thought, Jiang Fei found it normal.
Books in the apocalypse are even scarcer than supplies like food, fuel, and medicine.
Because no survivor would keep books that can’t be eaten.
Even if they carried them, it would be for starting fires to keep warm.
Under such harsh conditions, the Base established a place for learning, so they would naturally strictly vet every student.
Just as Mo Yanan said, to prevent people who would waste learning resources from getting in.
If Ling Zhaorui and Xiao Hua Lao weren’t busy, they could also teach Jiang Xiaoshi some knowledge.
But everyone has to work, and there’s too little rest time.
It seems I'll have to find Cheng Pingwei when I have time.
At the very least, I need to get the Base Leader’s approval first.
After seeing Mo Yanan off, Jiang Fei closed the back door and returned to the first floor with the four document bags, showing them to Su Liuyuan, Jiang Zhengkang, and Cao Xiuhong, who were in charge of the cashiers.
She told the three to memorize the photos on the documents, and whenever they encountered Kong Linlan’s relatives or friends, the price of goods would be tripled.
Jiang Fei temporarily placed the extra copy of the information in a drawer.
Coincidentally, that afternoon, while checking out, Su Liuyuan recognized a customer as Kong Linlan’s eldest sister and immediately raised the price.
“The total is 15,000 grams of gold.”
The eldest sister’s hand, reaching into her bag for a gold bar, paused, “You miscalculated, didn’t you?”
“I took two boxes of 24 bags of instant noodles, and according to the price tag, it’s 5,000 grams of gold.”
Su Liuyuan: “Are you called Kong Sumei?”
Kong Sumei: “Yes, why?”
“Then it’s correct. Your sister, Kong Linlan, created a special list at the military store, intentionally having staff sell us things at inflated prices. As a courtesy, we’ve also introduced a list.”
At this point, Su Liuyuan raised the handheld megaphone on the counter, ensuring that customers behind could also hear.
“For all relatives and friends of Kong Linlan, the price of all goods will be tripled.”
“If you don’t have enough gold, please voluntarily leave the queue. This Supermarket does not offer credit.”
Su Liuyuan’s tone was cheerful, and everyone’s first reaction was that people related to Kong Linlan would get a discount.
But then they listened carefully, and the price was tripled?!
Fortunately, they didn’t know Kong Linlan!
Kong Linlan’s relatives and friends in the queue protested indignantly.
“Why do we have to pay more?”
“Everyone here is a customer. You can’t treat us differently!”
“Tripling the price, why don’t you just rob us?!”
Kong Sumei, standing at the front, slammed her bag onto the counter.
She already had a fierce look, and now with a stern face, she looked even more intimidating.
“Call your Boss out!”
Bang—!
Jiang Fei walked over and heavily placed a gun on the counter.
“I am the Boss. What do you need?”
Upon seeing the gun, Kong Sumei’s imposing manner weakened, “Your new rule is unreasonable; you’re targeting us.”
Jiang Fei: “If you have an opinion, go talk to Kong Linlan. We learned this from her.”
“Are you still buying the instant noodles?”
“If not, I’ll put them back on the shelf.”
Having finally managed to get the instant noodles, Kong Sumei couldn’t possibly not buy them. She gritted her teeth and poured all the gold bars from her bag.
After weighing them, it was short by over 1,000 grams.
In the end, Kong Sumei only bought one box of instant noodles, still seething with anger.
Among the other relatives and friends, some found it too expensive and didn’t buy, while others didn’t have enough gold and left the queue to go home and get more.
Everyone felt uncomfortable.
Kong Linlan is crazy! Why did she create such a special list for no reason?!
Meanwhile, customers curiously inquired with Jiang Fei and Su Liuyuan.
“Boss Jiang, why is Kong Linlan targeting Ping An? Did you offend her?”
“I’ve been here since the Capital Base was established, and this is the first time I’ve heard of a military store treating customers differently. You’re not lying, are you?”
“That means you don’t go there often. Who doesn’t know that Kong Linlan judges people and acts accordingly?”
A thought arose in Jiang Fei’s mind, and she sighed, feigning helplessness, “I also don’t understand Kong Linlan’s actions. Perhaps Ping An’s business is too good, and she feels unbalanced.”
“If you don’t believe me, I can take you to see.”
Taking out her contribution card from her pocket, Jiang Fei went to the nearest military store.
It was a store selling rice, flour, grain, and oil.
Entering the store, she selected a pound of aged rice and asked the clerk to check out.
Noticing a group of people standing outside the door, the clerk swiped the card, puzzled, but his peripheral vision caught the initial letters of the name on the card, and he asked,
“Madam, are you called Jiang Fei?”
