2: Chapter 2 Unidentified Creatures

"system grandfather, you really know how to stir things up."

Hearing the notification sound "evolution points +0," the corners of Lin Sheng's mouth couldn't help but twitch slightly.

"System, can I undergo Evolution now?"

Looking at the evolution points on the panel, which were just over a thousand, Lin Sheng felt an itch in his heart.

The description of the "Evolution" talent was very clear; he could evolve by consuming evolution points.

Now that Lin Sheng was considered safe, he wanted to take this opportunity to improve his survival capabilities.

[Yes]

The system's answer was very concise.

"Then let's start the Evolution."

Lin Sheng muttered silently in his heart.

[Ding]

[Please choose, Host]

[Ordinary Evolution / Targeted Evolution]

Seeing these two options appear in his mind, Lin Sheng was somewhat confused.

"System, explain the difference between these two types of Evolution."

[Ordinary Evolution: By consuming evolution points, a comprehensive improvement of the body is performed. The more evolution points consumed, the greater the possibility of evolving a talent]

[Targeted Evolution: Evolve according to the Host's subjective will]

Lin Sheng's attention was instantly attracted by "Targeted Evolution."

Compared to the uncertainty of "Ordinary Evolution," "Targeted Evolution" was undoubtedly the best choice.

"System, perform Targeted Evolution."

"Evolve various bodily functions, evolve..."

"I also need to evolve Chloroplasts."

Lin Sheng racked his brains to think of a bunch of things that needed evolving. Finally, he thought of something that, for an animal, could be considered a bug.

That was Chloroplasts.

If he possessed Chloroplasts, he could survive later on even without relying on food.

[Ding]

[According to the Host's wishes, this Evolution will require a total of 5,004,624 evolution points]

[Host has insufficient evolution points, unable to perform Evolution]

"Consume all evolution points and perform Ordinary Evolution."

Without another word, Lin Sheng directly started Ordinary Evolution.

It wasn't that he couldn't afford Targeted Evolution, it was just...

Alright, he actually just couldn't afford it.

[evolution points consumed: 1071]

[Ordinary Evolution starting]

[Evolution will last for half a solar day on this planet]

[During the Evolution, the Host will not receive external damage]

Hearing that he wouldn't be harmed during the Evolution, Lin Sheng closed his eyes with peace of mind.

...

At this moment, Lin Sheng's body was changing at a speed visible to the naked eye.

The first thing to change was the length of his body.

His body, which was originally only about eighty centimeters long, grew to over a meter in a short time, and his limbs also became thicker and stronger.

Lin Sheng's four feet, which originally looked a bit like webbed flippers, also evolved into four broad, sharp claws at this moment.

Next, the layer of skin that wasn't very hard slowly peeled off. Once the skin had completely fallen away, a layer of pitch-black, shiny scales appeared.

The scales covered Lin Sheng's entire body, and there was even a layer of tiny scales under his belly.

...

The Evolution passed quickly without Lin Sheng even noticing.

Opening his eyes again, Lin Sheng found that the few members of his species that had "saved" him earlier had already left.

Lin Sheng didn't care much about the departure of those Salamander-like Creatures.

[Host: Lin Sheng]

[Race: Salamander-like Creature (Evolved)]

[evolution points: 0]

[Talent: Immortal Consciousness (Truth Level): Consciousness is indestructible]

[Devour (Concept Level): Can grow through devouring]

[Evolution (Concept Level): Can evolve by fulfilling certain conditions or consuming evolution points]

[Poison Fangs (Low-grade): A bit stronger]

[Description: You have evolved from a Third Sister-in-law into a slightly stronger Third Sister-in-law]

From the 3D model provided after the race entry, Lin Sheng saw his current appearance.

A majestic... Great Lizard covered in scales.

Although his body after Evolution was much cooler than before, the description in the last column of the system panel was an eyesore no matter how Lin Sheng looked at it.

"Forget it, at least there's no Ah San right now."

Lin Sheng shook his head, throwing the thought out of his mind.

Then, he focused his attention on the data panel once again.

The Poison Fangs talent had moved away from that eyesore "Trash-grade" and become "Low-grade."

Lin Sheng figured that this Evolution had incidentally evolved the Poison Fangs as well.

He could only say, as expected of a "Trash-grade" talent, even its Evolution was just an incidental byproduct.

...

"Buzz buzz."

Just as Lin Sheng was still complaining about the "Poison Fangs" talent, a buzzing sound similar to an airplane attracted his attention.

Lin Sheng looked up, and when he saw clearly what the large sound-making object was, a low growl escaped his mouth instinctively.

"Holy crap!"

At this moment, the entire Sky above Lin Sheng's head was covered by countless giant Dragonflies.

These Dragonflies were all flying desperately in one direction. In Lin Sheng's eyes, they looked like they were... fleeing for their lives?

Lin Sheng was puzzled.

But in the next moment, he understood.

"Damn it, dog system, is this really Earth three hundred million years ago?!"

"What kind of monster is that thing following behind those Dragonflies? I don't remember this thing ever appearing on Earth!"

At this moment, behind the swarm of Dragonflies, a creature that Lin Sheng couldn't name was trailing them.

This monster was estimated to be over a hundred meters long.

It had a head similar to a snake, but its teeth were all exposed, giving it a brutal appearance.

Behind the monster's head grew nine long, strip-like bodies as thick as its neck.

On each body, there was a pair of wings that blotted out the sun, and a thick, powerful giant claw.

There is a hand-drawn illustration by the author below.

The monster trailed leisurely behind the giant Dragonfly swarm, as if it were toying with its prey.

From time to time, it would control one of its bodies to grab the nearest Dragonfly and toss it into its mouth like eating a peanut.

Perhaps the monster grew tired of playing, as it suddenly accelerated and came beneath the Dragonfly swarm.

"Zheng!"

A sound like clashing metal came from its mouth. Even though Lin Sheng was on the periphery, his ears were numbed by the sound.

Not to mention the Dragonflies in the center; they fell like raindrops, a scene that made Lin Sheng's mouth water.

The monster simply took a breath, and a large patch of Dragonflies was sucked into its mouth.

Its eating speed was very fast, but the number of Dragonflies was also quite large. It was impossible for it to eat them all before they hit the ground.

The monster merely glanced indifferently at the Dragonflies on the ground and flew away directly, having no intention of going down to pick them up.

Lin Sheng felt that perhaps such a creature simply didn't deign to pick up this trash on the ground.

...

"Thank you for nature's gift."

Once the monster had flown far away, Lin Sheng scurried up from the ground.

Other creatures were still in a state of panic and didn't dare to come forward; it was the perfect time for him to strike.
