27: Chapter 27 Methods to Increase Speed
Lin Sheng seemed to have anticipated this situation long ago.
With a swift slide, he appeared beside the "Devil Ray" in the blink of an eye. Then, his sharp claws lunged out, effortlessly piercing into the "Devil Ray's" body.
Just as Lin Sheng had encountered before, upon sensing the "Devil Ray" was in mortal danger, the conduit connected to it instantly severed the link and retreated back underground.
Seeing this, Lin Sheng nodded thoughtfully.
After stuffing the abandoned "Devil Ray" into his mouth, he picked up the piece of meat from the ground and moved to another location.
Following the same steps and the same operation, Lin Sheng relied on this piece of unknown creature's flesh to fish for "Devil Rays" in the desert for several consecutive days.
Strangely enough, despite being left in such a scorching desert for several days, this piece of unknown creature's flesh showed no signs of rotting.
Lin Sheng had originally intended to keep fishing with this piece of meat until it finally rotted away.
However, those "Devil Rays" had grown smarter. Over the past few days, they had realized there was a sneaky fellow using a piece of meat to lure them every day.
As time passed, those "Devil Rays" stopped falling for the trick.
Gradually, once Lin Sheng realized the "Devil Rays" would no longer take the bait, the mission of this piece of meat came to an end.
After swallowing the meat, Lin Sheng found that his right arm had completely regrown.
The scales on the newly grown right arm were no different from the scales on the rest of his body.
Lin Sheng could even clearly feel the restless tentacles beneath the scales.
"Sigh."
He couldn't help but sigh. In his current situation, he could only trust what the System had said before.
...
"System, how many evolution points do I have now?"
Lying lazily on a protruding sand dune, Lin Sheng asked the System.
[Ding]
[Host's current remaining evolution points: 1,654,565]
Although he had expected it, Lin Sheng was still quite excited when over 1.6 million evolution points actually appeared before his eyes.
"System, give me 1 million evolution points' worth of Ordinary Evolution."
Lin Sheng commanded the System.
Actually, he really wanted to perform a Targeted Evolution, but for his current needs, 1 million evolution points was still a bit too little.
What Lin Sheng lacked now were talents at the "Natural Grade" or above, but a single draw for a "Natural Grade" talent alone cost 1 million evolution points.
If he wanted to specifically evolve a Natural Grade talent, he estimated it would take several million evolution points to pull it off.
Lin Sheng understood this very well, which was why he chose Ordinary Evolution.
As the saying goes, it's not that I can't afford Targeted Evolution...
Alright, I just can't afford it.
[Ding]
[This Evolution will last for 10 solar days of this planet. Please wait patiently, Host.]
Lying on the sand dune, Lin Sheng began his Evolution.
...
As the sun and moon cycled, ten days passed in the blink of an eye.
Lin Sheng slowly climbed up from the sand dune.
"System, open the Personal Status Panel."
The moment Lin Sheng woke up, he checked his panel.
[Ding]

Description: If you want to navigate through the universe, relying solely on wings won't do.」
The information on the data panel hadn't changed much, but Lin Sheng had already anticipated this.
His current state was somewhat similar to a "bottleneck period"; once he broke through, his strength would surely take a massive leap.
What caught Lin Sheng's attention was the evaluation given by the System at the end.
He remembered that the System's previous evaluations were almost always some random, nonsensical remarks.
But at some point, the System's evaluations had gradually become more normal.
And now, the System's evaluation actually provided a suggestion.
Although the suggestion was just a short sentence, it was highly beneficial to Lin Sheng.
While it was currently impossible for him to navigate the universe, there would always be a chance in the future.
If he still had to rely on flapping his wings back then, it would be a real joke.
"System, how do you think I can obtain other methods of flight?"
Lin Sheng's eyes darted around as he asked the System.
Ever since the System showed emotion that one time, Lin Sheng realized that his System could be communicated with.
Although he didn't know if there were any restrictions on this communication, being able to talk was always a good thing.
Upon hearing Lin Sheng's inquiry, the System gave a very concise reply:
[Don't know]
The emotionless mechanical voice made Lin Sheng's face slump.
But he didn't give up and changed his approach to ask:
"Godfather, where can I obtain a method to navigate through the universe?"
The System remained silent for a while.
Just as Lin Sheng thought it was a lost cause, the System spoke.
The cold mechanical voice seemed to carry a hint of inexplicable emotion as it pointed Lin Sheng in a direction.
[Either here or through the lottery.]
Hearing this, Lin Sheng was overjoyed.
He hadn't held much hope, but he didn't expect the System to actually provide an answer.
While the lottery option wasn't something he could afford right now, the System also said that he could obtain the ability for space travel right here.
Although Lin Sheng felt that the ability obtained might be the lowest level of navigation, it was still better than nothing.
Lin Sheng wanted to strike while the iron was hot and press for exactly how to obtain that ability.
However, after that last answer, no matter how much he asked, the System didn't say another word.
This immediately put Lin Sheng in a dilemma.
Since the System wouldn't talk, he could only figure it out himself.
First of all, navigating the universe would definitely require a flight-related talent, and it could only be a flight-related talent.
Because Lin Sheng didn't think he could just wander around the desert and pick up an aviation engine that could be used with his flesh-and-blood body.
If it were the System's lottery, there might be such a possibility, but he could forget about finding one in the desert.
Secondly, flight-related talents must be obtained from giant beasts that can fly.
Furthermore, this giant beast's method of flight had to be special; it couldn't rely on flapping wings to fly.
These two guesses made Lin Sheng frown slightly.
Because if that were the case, it seemed he would need to go to a very high place to hunt such a creature.
And the "very high" here didn't refer to those mountains, but rather the atmosphere.
At the very least, Lin Sheng didn't believe there would be creatures that didn't rely on wings to fly in the Stratosphere.
Because even he could use his wings to fly in the Stratosphere.
Therefore, if he wanted to capture a creature that didn't rely on air to fly, he would have to head to the Upper Atmosphere to have any hope.
Thinking of this, Lin Sheng suddenly recalled the first time he went to the Stratosphere.
He remembered the Nine-bodied Giant Beast he saw back then; it seemed to be hovering in the clouds to rest.
That kind of hovering definitely couldn't be achieved with wings alone.
