30: Chapter 30 The Free Honeycomb Monster

Lin Sheng circled the Honeycomb Monster; this time, he observed it very carefully.

During this observation, he noticed some clues on the Honeycomb Monster's body.

The three layers of wings on the right side of this Honeycomb Monster were much smaller than those on the left.

The missing part looked as if it had been forcibly torn off by some creature.

Not only that, Lin Sheng also discovered that the creatures controlled by the Honeycomb Monster initially appeared very listless, but after feeding on the creatures in the field, they visibly became much more energetic.

Lin Sheng originally thought the battle would end with a slaughter by the Honeycomb Monster, but what happened next made him realize his thoughts were too naive.

"Dong~"

"Dong~"

A long "chime" suddenly echoed from the distant horizon.

This "chime" wasn't like the sound of a traditional wooden mallet strike; it was crisper and more sustained than a traditional impact, carrying a sensation like the clashing of metal and steel.

The moment Lin Sheng heard the sound, he looked up.

Although it was his first time hearing this sound, he was familiar with that metallic timbre; after all, it was the "Benefactor" who had brought him wealth twice.

Although Lin Sheng was surprised, he didn't actually plan to go and introduce himself to his "Benefactor."

He had enough self-awareness; compared to such unrealistic things, he preferred to quietly leave this place of trouble.

In contrast to Lin Sheng's relatively calm state of mind, the Honeycomb Monster clearly panicked after hearing the chime.

The chime seemed to possess some kind of magic; when it reached the Honeycomb Monster, the creatures it controlled withered and fell one after another.

The Honeycomb Monster retracted the creatures it was connected to back into its Hive, then it cosplayed as the Lin Sheng from a day ago—fleeing for its life without looking back.

But unlike Lin Sheng, the Honeycomb Monster clearly didn't have his good luck.

Its opponent did not underestimate it.

It only took a few seconds for the Honeycomb Monster to retract those creatures, but in those few seconds, Lin Sheng's "Benefactor" had already charged over.

"Zheng!"

A murderous sound erupted from the "Benefactor's" mouth. The powerful mental shock caused the Honeycomb Monster's mind to waver momentarily, and the creatures it controlled tumbled out of the Hive one after another.

Compared to the Honeycomb Monster, these creatures seemed small, but no matter how small, their sheer numbers became a massive burden at this moment.

"Buzz!"

"Buzz!"

Seeing that it seemed unable to escape, a buzzing sound suddenly emanated from the Honeycomb Monster's honeycomb-like abdomen.

Although they were different species, Lin Sheng could still hear a desperate, daggers-drawn posture in that sound.

Just as Lin Sheng thought, after a roar to bolster its courage, the creatures controlled by the Honeycomb Monster fell from its Hive.

Dozens of massive creatures were in free-fall in the sky, their blood-red eyes filled only with confusion. Even though some could fly, in this dazed state, they were doomed.

With the creatures completely detached, the Honeycomb Monster turned in the air, staring intently at the "Benefactor" with its eerie head.

The reason the head was called eerie was that it had absolutely nothing to do with what one would normally call a head.

If the Honeycomb Monster hadn't used it to stare at the "Benefactor," Lin Sheng would have just thought it was a hump-like protrusion on its body.

This protrusion grew on the Honeycomb Monster's massive body, looking like a small hilltop from a distance.

The "Benefactor" maintained a relatively safe distance from the Honeycomb Monster. While keeping a close eye on the monster, its peripheral vision also intentionally or unintentionally swept over Lin Sheng's location.

"Buzz buzz!"

The Honeycomb Monster let out a strange cry, and then, a scene that caused Lin Sheng intense psychological discomfort appeared before him.

The "hump" of the Honeycomb Monster was suddenly pushed up from the inside, followed by a tearing sound that gave Lin Sheng goosebumps all over.

"Rrip."

The "hump" was forcibly torn open from the inside, and what tore it open was a blood-red, eyeball-like object.

After this blood-red eyeball was exposed, it immediately turned the black dot at its center toward the "Benefactor."

This eyeball looked extremely creepy. Set against the blood-red eye, the Honeycomb Monster looked like an Old One emerging from the shadows; its intimidation factor had reached its peak.

But as an onlooker, once Lin Sheng adapted to the pressure from the eyeball, he knew the Honeycomb Monster's momentum was gone.

If it had just ditched those burdens and run away earlier, it might have had a slim chance of survival.

But now...

Its weakness was exposed. Even if it was intimidating, it had to know who its opponent was.

When facing an enemy stronger than oneself, such intimidation is naturally not worth mentioning.

Lin Sheng's prediction was correct; the moment the Honeycomb Monster revealed its eye, the "Benefactor" moved.

It used eight of its body parts to tightly entwine the Honeycomb Monster, while the remaining one went straight for its eye.

This was the first time the Honeycomb Monster had encountered a creature whose consciousness was completely unaffected by its mental intimidation. By the time it realized this, the "Benefactor's" eight body parts had already tightly coiled around its body.

Seeing the opponent's claws heading straight for its Vital Point, no matter how panicked the Honeycomb Monster was, it could only accept its fate.

Its eye was a highly offensive organ because it possessed mental-level attacks.

But such an attack was completely useless against the "Benefactor."

Because the "Benefactor" not only possessed mental attack methods but also had the means to absorb others' consciousness to enhance its own.

This was also the reason the "Benefactor" had come to hunt down this Honeycomb Monster.

After years of improvement, the "Benefactor's" consciousness strength had reached a terrifying level.

If Lin Sheng didn't have the "Immortal Consciousness" cheat, he would have been killed by the "Benefactor's" sonic attack along with those dragonflies when he first arrived in this world.

"Ya!"

An eerie groan of pain reached Lin Sheng's ears. This groan didn't travel through the air, yet Lin Sheng strangely heard it.

After the groan faded, the situation on the field was settled.

The "Benefactor" churned the Honeycomb Monster's massive eyeball until it became a mass of gelatinous matter, then opened its mouth and sucked it in from a distance.

"Whew..."

"Is it really over this time?"

After witnessing the "Benefactor" finish its meal, Lin Sheng let out a long sigh of relief.

He checked the remaining time for the Evolution to complete; there were still two and a half minutes left, just enough time to wait for the "Benefactor" to leave.

However, after finishing its meal, the "Benefactor" did not leave as Lin Sheng had expected.

To Lin Sheng's horror, it turned its head toward the direction of his Consciousness Body.
