3: Chapter 3: Evolution Again

Seeing more and more creatures gathering around, Lin Sheng accelerated his devouring speed.

During the devouring process, Lin Sheng's body was unknowingly growing.

"Squeak, squeak."

At that moment, a Millipede not much longer than Lin Sheng rushed over from not far away.

It didn't go for the corpses on the ground but immediately targeted the still-living Lin Sheng.

Watching the Millipede crawl toward him, Lin Sheng let out a low hiss.

"Buddy, you really have no brains."

He dodged the Millipede's pounce and then slapped a claw onto its hard carapace.

*Crrrk.*

The collision between claw and carapace produced a sound similar to a blunt instrument rubbing against leather.

Although Lin Sheng's claws didn't hurt, the Millipede's carapace hadn't sustained any obvious damage either.

"No, I can't get an instant kill; I can't waste time with it."

Knowing he couldn't resolve this Millipede immediately, Lin Sheng didn't intend to fight it to the death.

The cost-effectiveness of a death match was too low.

Devouring this Millipede would give Lin Sheng a hundred evolution points at most.

For that many points, Lin Sheng only needed to devour a few Dragonflies in the field; there was no need to take risks.

Now that other creatures had also reacted, the number of Dragonflies in the field was decreasing, and Lin Sheng couldn't waste time here.

He used all his strength for a tail whip, directly flipping the Millipede over.

The Millipede scrambled up to continue its attack, but Lin Sheng had already relocated.

...

[Ding]

[Host meets the conditions for Evolution. Please evolve within one stellar day of this planet, otherwise the opportunity will be voided.]

While eating, a mechanical system voice suddenly sounded in Lin Sheng's ear.

"Evolution?"

Lin Sheng was stunned, then he remembered the description of the "Evolution" talent.

Once certain conditions are met, Evolution can be performed.

Having devoured so many Dragonflies, the conditions were definitely met for this Evolution reminder to pop up.

But what puzzled Lin Sheng was, what would he evolve into this time?

Having eaten so many Dragonflies, the direction of Evolution would surely be related to them.

He chose not to evolve for the time being.

If he directly evolved into a Dragonfly, that would be a joke.

Moreover, because the Dragonfly corpses were decreasing, some creatures in the field had already begun fighting each other.

Lin Sheng wanted to take this opportunity to see if he could rake in another sum of evolution points.

Once he had more evolution points, he could go for a double Evolution.

Thinking this, Lin Sheng drifted along the edges of the battlefield, acting like a 'camper'.

His target had shifted from the previous Dragonfly corpses to the severed limbs being tossed everywhere now.

Occasionally, Lin Sheng would encounter creatures with the same idea; these creatures all had one thing in common: they were weak.

Facing these creatures much weaker than himself, Lin Sheng could only let them experience the price of trying to be a camper.

...

"That's about enough."

After 'cosplaying' as a camper outside the field for a while, Lin Sheng felt it was time to leave.

It wasn't that his conscience had suddenly appeared and he wanted to turn over a new leaf.

Rather...

A creature had appeared in the field that made Lin Sheng's scales stand on end.

A Giant Millipede estimated to be ten meters long.

Compared to this Millipede, the one Lin Sheng encountered earlier was practically a grandson.

This Millipede was likely attracted by the animal remains here.

As soon as it entered the field, those creatures that were previously acting all-mighty in the center fled this place of trouble without looking back, just like Lin Sheng.

"Tch, a bunch of cowards."

Lin Sheng couldn't help but click his tongue in his heart.

As he left, he didn't forget to snatch up a few 'campers' that ran past him.

...

"System, check evolution points."

[Ding]

[Host's remaining evolution points: 4775]

"Over four thousand, not bad."

Lin Sheng calculated that, at 70 evolution points per Dragonfly and ignoring the severed limbs, he had swallowed about 70 Dragonflies this time.

Fortunately, the "Devour" talent didn't give him a sense of fullness; otherwise, he couldn't possibly have eaten so much.

Thinking of "Devour," Lin Sheng suddenly remembered the description of that talent.

"System, check physical 3D information."

As his voice fell, a 3D projection of himself appeared in Lin Sheng's mind.

Looking at the information surfacing in the projection, Lin Sheng thought, "As I expected."

After swallowing so much, his body had grown considerably.

No wonder Lin Sheng felt earlier that the other creatures in the field seemed to be getting smaller.

He originally thought it was an illusion, but seeing his own data, Lin Sheng knew.

It wasn't that the other creatures were getting smaller, but that he was growing larger.

His body length had now reached two and a half meters, a full meter and a half longer than before.

After understanding his own situation, Lin Sheng focused his attention on the Evolution option.

"System, if I use the Evolution opportunity now, will I evolve into a Dragonfly?"

Lin Sheng asked the question he was most worried about.

If he really changed from a Third Sister-in-law into a Dragonfly, his survival capability would surely plummet.

[Host, please rest assured.]

[Evolution only extracts superior genes and talents; it does not directly change the Host's species.]

The system's words put Lin Sheng's mind at ease.

Extracting superior talents and genes—did that mean he might grow Dragonfly wings?

Lin Sheng looked forward to this very much.

"System, begin Evolution."

Lying on a withered leaf, Lin Sheng began this Evolution.

[This Evolution will last for 3 stellar days of this planet. Please wait patiently, Host.]

After speaking, the system fell silent.

Lin Sheng also emptied his consciousness and entered sleep mode.

...

Three days passed quickly, and Lin Sheng slowly crawled up from the ground.

As soon as he opened his eyes, they lit up.

Literally lit up.

Likely due to extracting the Dragonfly's compound eyes, his vision after this Evolution was countless times better than before.

Wriggling his body, Lin Sheng called out in his heart:

"System, open the data panel."

[Host: Lin Sheng]

Species: New Species

evolution points: 4775

Talents:

...

Evaluation: You are a Third Sister-in-law with wings.]

Lin Sheng ignored the name after the species; anyway, this wasn't the first time the system had pulled something like this.

He focused his attention directly on his 3D diagram and the newly appeared talent.

Looking at the appearance of his body in the 3D diagram, Lin Sheng's already bright eyes became even brighter.

Because on his back, three pairs of thin wings had actually grown.

Even if these three pairs of wings were very thin, Lin Sheng firmly believed that their existence meant they had a purpose.

Since he had wings, these three pairs of wings must be useful.

As for what use?

What else can wings be used for besides flying?
