137: Chapter 137 Leading the Team into Battle

A small red flower lay on the table. Under the light, that splash of crimson appeared increasingly eerie.

Thunderstorm was a curious person. He stared at the red flower without blinking:

"Brother Song Yang, what exactly is the deal with this red flower? Hurry up and tell me, you're killing me with suspense!"

"It affects a person's sanity."

Song Yang explained, "Coming into contact with it will make a person's emotions become extremely volatile, significantly increasing their aggression, and causing an uncontrollable urge to kill to surge within them."

"Is it really that bizarre?"

Hearing what Song Yang said, not only did Thunderstorm not retreat, but he actually developed a desire to give it a try.

"Old Lei is afraid of nothing in heaven or earth. I just want to test how powerful this thing really is!"

As he spoke, his large hand grabbed the flower.

A few seconds later.

"Kill!"

A low, inhuman roar rolled out from deep within Thunderstorm's throat.

In almost an instant, his eyes were covered by an impenetrable, deep blood-red color.

Veins bulged on his forehead, and hideous, twisted patterns appeared on his face as an extremely terrifying aura of violence erupted from him!

At this moment, Thunderstorm's eyes were bloodshot, his teeth were clenched, saliva was uncontrollably dripping from the corner of his mouth, and he was breathing heavily through his nostrils.

He looked like a ferocious beast that had crawled out from the abyss of hell.

He suddenly lifted his head, his blood-red gaze sweeping over everyone present, carrying a pure, undisguised desire for slaughter, as if he would pounce and tear someone apart in the next second!

Shi Lei, who was closest to him, felt a chill shoot from the soles of his feet straight to his scalp. The hairs on his body stood on end, and he subconsciously wanted to retreat.

Before Thunderstorm completely lost control, Song Yang reached out and took the small red flower back.

The moment the red flower left his hand, Thunderstorm's burly body shook violently, as if all his strength had been drained, or as if a basin of ice water had been poured over his head.

The blood-red color in his eyes receded rapidly like a tide, and the hideous patterns on his face gradually faded away.

Thunderstorm clutched his head and groaned in pain, his body swaying as he nearly collapsed.

"My head... it hurts so much..."

Thunderstorm shook his still-dizzy head, his eyes filled with lingering fear. "What just happened to me?"

He looked at the small red flower in Song Yang's hand, his face showing genuine trepidation for the first time.

Song Yang casually stuffed the crimson flower into the pocket of his combat uniform.

"To remain clear-headed in its presence and not have one's reason devoured by rage, one's own mental power, or rather, willpower, must be sufficiently strong."

Upon hearing this, everyone felt another chill in their hearts.

Thunderstorm's loss of control was still fresh in their minds. Even such a powerful Evolver had nearly tripped up, showing just how high the requirements for mental power were.

"And this is just one of three types of flowers."

"If one could collect all the flowers of other colors, it would likely produce terrifying effects."

The group felt their hearts burning with excitement, especially the four newly promoted Evolvers, whose eyes were filled with desire.

In the apocalypse, any opportunity to enhance one's strength was enough to drive people mad.

Just then, the door to the conference room was slammed open with a "bang."

A middle-aged man in an officer's uniform stumbled in.

"Director! The No. 3 secret supply depot in the western suburbs is under unknown attack! Requesting emergency support!"

The Old Director's expression darkened, and he stood up abruptly, his gentle gaze now sharp as an eagle's:

"What is the specific situation? How many enemies? What is attacking?"

The officer gasped for breath and said urgently:

"I'm not sure! Communications were just cut off! We have two squads of Soldiers at the No. 3 depot!"

The Old Director paced the room for a few steps and made a prompt decision:

"Thunderstorm, you immediately lead a combat squad..."

Before he could finish, his gaze shifted and landed on Song Yang.

"Comrade Song Yang, seeing that this situation is urgent and the No. 3 supply depot is crucial to the Shelter and cannot be lost,"

"Since you and Shi Lei and the others just had a 'spar,' why don't you lead the team and take Shi Lei and the others with you? Consider it a chance for them to experience real combat and see some blood."

"The specific location of the No. 3 depot is ten kilometers west of the Shelter. I hope everything goes smoothly!"

Song Yang walked out of the conference room, with Shi Lei and the others following closely behind.

Watching their backs, Thunderstorm rubbed his chin, chuckled, and said to the Old Director:

"Director, your eye for talent is truly sharp! Brother Song Yang is definitely a fierce dragon!"

The Old Director nodded, his gaze deep:

"I hope he can bring us more surprises."

A moment later, Song Yang, along with Shi Lei and the other four, returned to the abandoned factory.

The six of them squeezed into a vehicle and sped toward the western suburbs!

...

At the No. 3 supply depot in the western suburbs, gunfire rang out continuously.

Behind a makeshift bunker at the warehouse, a dozen Soldiers were gripping their triggers tightly, firing bullets aimlessly into the darkness outside.

"Squad leader! We're running low on ammo!" a young Soldier shouted.

The middle-aged man called the squad leader gritted his teeth and roared:

"Conserve it! Wait! The Director will definitely send someone!"

Although he said this, he had no confidence in his heart.

Communications had long been cut off; they were like an isolated island forgotten by the world.

In the darkness, dozens of flashlight beams flickered around the perimeter of the warehouse, gradually tightening the encirclement.

"Hahaha! Finally found a treasure trove! We can eat our fill today!"

"What are you dawdling for? Hurry up and blow the door open! All the food inside is ours!"

"The boss said, whoever charges in first gets two extra boxes of canned meat!"

The constant shouting made the already desperate Soldiers' hearts sink even further.

They were all too familiar with these voices; it was a group of scavengers entrenched nearby, known for being vicious and committing every evil act.

"Vroom, vroomβ€”"

The roar of motorcycle engines grew closer.

That was the signal that the scavengers were preparing to launch their final assault!

It's over.

This was the only thought in the Soldiers' minds at that moment.

Without bullets, they had no means of resistance.

Just then, a sonic boom suddenly rang out!

"What was that sound?"

The scavengers outside the warehouse were also stunned, and their flashlight beams turned toward the source of the sound.

At the end of the dim dirt road, two blinding beams of headlights pierced the darkness, racing toward them at an astonishing speed!

Before the car had even come to a stop, Shi Lei's voice rang out through the vehicle's loudspeaker.

"All scavengers, drop your weapons and put your hands on your heads! Otherwise, you will be killed without mercy!"

The scavengers were in an uproar at first, but then burst into raucous laughter.

"Where did this greenhorn come from? You dare to meddle in your grandfathers' business?"

"Just one beat-up car? Brothers, show them what we've got!"

The scavengers pulled out homemade gasoline bombs and threw them at the car.

Shi Lei roared, kicked the car door open, and rolled out from the edge of the sea of flames. The other four newly promoted Evolvers also stumbled out.

Just then, one sharp-witted scavenger sensed that something was wrong.

The sonic boom from earlier clearly came from the sky; how could it be the sound of a car?

Realizing something was off, the man turned his head to look behind him.

At some point, a young man he didn't recognize had appeared behind him.

The young man was holding a blood-red blade, and several corpses were already lying at his feet.

Noticing that he was being watched, the young man flashed a harmless, innocent smile and looked over:

"Are you looking for me?"
