272: Chapter 266 Couple Gods
The slave's body trembled violently; that command, 'Stand up, you are not allowed to kneel,' seemed to carry an unquestionable power that burrowed into the very marrow of his bones.
He used every ounce of his strength to force those knees, which had grown accustomed to bending, to tremble and straighten.
This was the first time since he had been abducted that he was standing while speaking to a 'god.'
No, it was standing while looking up at another 'god.'
He dared not look into those eyes, only staring intently at the patch of sand beneath the other's feet, which had been stained a dark red by Yan's corpse.
'How many more deities are there in the city?' Song Yang asked.
'T-two...'
The slave's teeth chattered as he stammered out the words, 'They are a married couple. They like to capture young men and women and take them back to torture them to death.'
Song Yang did not ask further.
He turned around and looked toward the people in the distance who had just stopped and were looking over with suspicion and uncertainty.
Among them were mixed a few of Yan's subordinates, dressed in leather armor.
The moment those subordinates met Song Yang's gaze, their expressions changed drastically, and they turned and fled almost instinctively.
After dealing with the lackeys, Song Yang flew straight toward the city.
...
In the center of the city, a luxurious mansion stood tall.
Inside the mansion's main hall, incense smoke curled in the air.
A man reclined on a wide animal-hide chair; he was burly, his bronze skin covered in ferocious totems.
His name was He, and he was the other ruler of this city.
In his arms nestled a woman with an alluring figure.
The woman was named Mei, and she had a pair of soul-stirring fox eyes. At this moment, she was boredly toying with the bone pendant hanging from He's chest.
'How boring,' Mei yawned. 'That idiot Yan has gone out to play his hunting game again. He always comes back covered in blood; there's no novelty at all.'
He let out a low laugh, his thick arm roaming over Mei's smooth back. 'Then what do you want to play? Were the little ones captured yesterday not interesting enough, or do you want to try something different?'
Mei licked her crimson lips. 'Those little ones were too fragile; they breathed their last before I could even crush a few of their bones. He, I want to hear some fresh screams.'
In the center of the hall, seven or eight scantily clad young women were dancing to decadent music. Everyone was twisting their waists for all they were worth, not daring to make the slightest mistake.
Suddenly, the young girl on the far left tripped imperceptibly, and her dance steps faltered for half a beat. The music stopped abruptly.
All the dancers stopped and froze in place, cold sweat instantly soaking through their thin garments.
Mei's gaze locked onto the girl who had made the mistake like a venomous snake. The laziness on her face vanished, replaced by a coldness born of being offended.
'Drag her out,' she said, too lazy to even raise her hand, simply spitting out the words lightly, 'Feed her to the sand worms outside as a snack.'
The girl's face instantly drained of all color. She fell to her knees with a 'thud,' kowtowing desperately and begging for mercy, her voice shrill and pitiful.
Two guards immediately stepped forward and dragged her out like a dead dog.
He watched this scene with great interest and was just about to say something when his expression suddenly changed.
He sat up abruptly, and Mei in his arms was also startled by this sudden movement, causing her to frown.
'What's wrong?'
He did not answer. His hawk-like eyes were fixed tightly on the direction outside the city, his face showing unprecedented gravity.
'Yan's aura...' he muttered to himself, his voice filled with disbelief, 'has disappeared.'
The alluring expression on Mei's face also faded instantly. She straightened up and sensed carefully for a moment; the same shock that was on He's face appeared on her beautiful face.
'Dead?'
'How is that possible! In this small world, who could kill him?'
He slowly stood up, a smile appearing on his face. 'No matter who it is.' 'He has successfully piqued my interest.'
He's voice echoed in the main hall, carrying a trace of bloodthirsty excitement.
Mei leaned back into his arms, her scarlet tongue licking her lips. The shock in her eyes was replaced by a morbid fanaticism: 'Yes, whoever it is, daring to kill Yan, their bones must be much harder than those mortals. It should be fun to play with for a while longer.'
The hall was deathly silent. The guards responsible for dragging the girl had long since stopped, freezing in place, forgetting even to breathe.
The girl pressed to the ground also stopped crying, her desperate face filled with confusion. The deity is dead?
This thought was even more terrifying than the fact that she was about to be fed to the sand worms.
Just in this eerie silence—'BOOM!!!'
A loud noise, as if a god were beating a war drum, shook the entire mansion violently.
The main gate of the hall, inlaid with gemstones, along with the thick walls, exploded into pieces before everyone's horrified eyes!
Countless stone and wood fragments shot inward, filling the air with dust. A figure, backlit, walked in step by step from the broken opening.
He and Mei's pupils contracted sharply. It was a pure, unadulterated killing intent, so dense it felt tangible, rushing toward them and seemingly dropping the temperature in the hall to freezing.
'How bold!' He was the first to react. He shoved Mei away, his burly body rising suddenly, and the stone slab beneath his feet cracked in response.
A flash of light appeared in his hand, and a massive, barbed bone hammer materialized out of thin air. 'Daring to break in here, state your name!'
Song Yang did not stop his pace. His gaze swept over the trembling guards and dancers in the hall, finally landing on He and Mei, his eyes as calm as if he were looking at two dead things.
'Dead people don't need to know my name.'
Before the words had even faded, a long spear appeared in his hand.
'You're courting death!' He roared, his muscles bulging. He exerted force through his feet, and his entire body, like a frenzied giant beast, brandished the bone hammer, carrying a vicious wind that tore through the air, and smashed it down toward Song Yang's head!
At the same time, Mei's figure vanished from the spot like a ghost, reappearing the next instant behind and to the side of Song Yang. Her five fingers formed claws, her ghastly green nails growing several inches, aiming straight for his heart.
The couple cooperated tacitly; one was fierce and powerful, the other insidious and venomous, instantly sealing off all retreat.
However, the tip of Song Yang's spear traced an arcane arc in the air, striking after them but arriving first, landing precisely and squarely on the tip of the whistling bone hammer.
He only felt an irresistible, overwhelming force surge from the hammer. The strength he was so proud of was as insignificant as an ant in the face of this power.
The bone hammer flew out of his hand, and his burly body was sent flying backward, slamming hard into the stone pillar behind him, snapping the entire pillar in half.
One strike, just one strike!
Mei's pupils shrank to pinpricks, but it was too late to retract her claws.
Song Yang didn't even look at her, backhanding with his spear. The shaft of the spear, like a dragon, swept out horizontally.
A crisp sound of bone breaking rang out. Mei let out a shrill scream, her entire right arm twisting at an eerie angle, and she was sent flying, crashing down beside He.
