91: Chapter 91 Infiltrating the Manor

"Brother Liu, Instructor Ma only told us to scout from the outside. Are you sure we should act on our own?"

The two men who had entered the Villa lay in the bushes, whispering to each other.

The man called "Brother Liu" had a faint scar on his face that stretched from his brow bone down to his cheek.

He spat out the chewing gum he was holding in his mouth and glanced at the young man beside him:

"What, are you scared?"

"No, I just think unauthorized action isn't a good idea!" the young Soldier explained.

"Pah!"

Brother Liu spat, "Back when I was in Myanmar cutting out people's kidneys with my brothers, that old fart didn't even know where he was!

The brothers are all under Mayor Du; what does that have to do with him? Just because he's a bit older, he thinks he can order us around?"

"That old guy Zhang Zhengguo just takes himself too seriously. He's hesitant and dawdles. By the time he figures out the situation, it'll be too late!"

"Think about it, as long as we can take that kid out and get the 'mysterious object', Mayor Du will definitely look at us in a new light. When that happens, he'll give us a rank. Isn't that better than how things are now?"

The young Soldier was clearly swayed, his eyes filled with intense desire:

"That's true. There are tens of thousands of people in the Underground City. Only by becoming an officer can we stop risking our lives out here. Unlike now, where we're on edge every mission."

"That's right!"

Brother Liu nodded in satisfaction, "As long as we succeed this time, we'll have enough points to trade for what we want. Director Du might even reward you with that little celebrity you like.

You know, that woman is the object of countless people's fantasies. She's been popular since she was a kid, and her skin is so tender you could pinch water out of it."

The young Soldier no longer hesitated and nodded heavily:

"Alright! Brother Liu, I'll listen to you!"

The two lowered their bodies and carefully approached the Villa. The night was the best cover, and their individual night-vision goggles kept their vision clear in the darkness.

After a few steps, Brother Liu stopped.

His gaze locked onto a window on the second floor of the Villa.

A figure flashed by there.

"Someone's there."

Brother Liu lowered his voice, drew his pistol from his waist, and screwed on the silencer.

He was very confident in his marksmanship; as long as that figure exposed itself for even a second, he was sure he could blow the target's head open.

A few minutes later, Song Yang appeared in front of the window and looked in their direction.

Brother Liu pulled the trigger at almost the same moment.

"Shoo!"

However, the scene he imagined of the target being shot in the head did not happen.

Impossible!

Brother Liu was stunned. His marksmanship had never failed, especially at such close range!

The bullet he fired should have been enough to penetrate the glass and blow the target's head off.

But the man before him was unscathed, which left only one possibility.

The target was standing behind bulletproof glass.

The intel didn't mention this!

Exposed!

He gestured urgently to the young Soldier beside him—retreat!

However, just as he turned, a clicking sound rang out behind him.

It was the sound of a window opening!

Oh no!

Brother Liu's scalp tingled, and the hair all over his body stood on end in an instant.

Without thinking, he prepared to throw himself to the ground and use the bushes for cover.

But Song Yang had already pulled the trigger of the rifle in his hand.

"Shoo!"

Brother Liu felt a sudden chill at his neck, followed by a spurt of hot liquid.

He clutched his neck, collapsed to the ground, and his vision began to blur.

Almost simultaneously, there was another gunshot.

The young Soldier beside him fell backward, his body stiff, and the rifle in his hand hit the ground with a "clang".

How is that possible?

The man struggled to lift his head and looked at the window on the second floor of the Villa.

The Villa was pitch black, unable to see one's own hand in front of one's face; there wasn't even any moonlight.

In this environment, even the most experienced night combat veteran could only rely on night-vision goggles for vague observation.

But how could the target see them?

And so accurately!

One shot hit him directly; because he was wearing a helmet, the target chose to aim for the neck.

This wasn't the marksmanship of an ordinary person, and certainly not the vision an ordinary person could have in the dark!

Could this be the power of a "mysterious object"?

Before he could think further, the sound of flapping wings rang out overhead.

Several strange-looking big-mouthed monster birds landed silently beside the two men.

Their bodies were bloated, their feathers sparse and dull, and they had no eyes, but they had a huge beak on their heads.

Although eyeless, their perception of the scent of blood was extremely acute.

The big birds let out low gurgles and opened their huge beaks. One by one, half-human-sized, blood-red little monkeys jumped out of the big birds' mouths, screaming.

As soon as they landed, they lunged at the two men on the ground like madmen.

The entire process took only a few dozen seconds, and the two still-warm bodies were reduced to countless pieces, carried back into the monster birds' mouths by the blood-red little monkeys.

The big-mouthed monster birds closed their massive beaks, flapped their heavy wings again, and disappeared into the night, dragging their bloated bodies.

After the monster birds had completely left, Liu Dahai appeared and picked up the weapons and equipment the two had dropped.

He weighed them; two decent-model automatic rifles, a Desert Eagle, two night-vision goggles, three fully loaded magazines, two high-explosive grenades, and even five packs of military high-energy compressed biscuits.

These pieces of equipment were of quite high quality.

It wasn't that he hadn't thought about doing it himself just now.

But the prerequisite was that he had to be able to see the target.

In this pitch-black Villa, there wasn't even a glimmer of light, and those two guys were wearing black combat uniforms.

Even if he strained his eyes until they cracked, he wouldn't be able to see them without infrared equipment.

Unlike Song Yang.

One shot tore through the first person's carotid artery, avoiding the protection of the helmet, killing him instantly.

The second shot hit the other Soldier directly in the chest, not even giving him a chance to react.

What terrifying night vision and shooting skills!

Liu Dahai asked himself, even at the peak of his physical fitness and eyesight, wearing the most advanced night-vision equipment, it would be absolutely impossible to achieve such effortless and precise shooting in such a dark environment.

...

In the darkness 500 meters from the Villa, several inconspicuous black off-road vehicles were parked.

Zhang Zhengguo raised his hand to rub his aching temples and couldn't help but curse:

"Those two idiots! I told them to observe from the perimeter, but they actually broke in on their own. Now there's no movement; what the hell are they up to?"

"Boss, what now? Should we wait a bit longer?"

The subordinate beside him was also confused. The two people who had lost contact were usually considered good hands in the team; why was there no movement?

Zhang Zhengguo slapped his thigh violently, startling the few people in the car.

"We can't wait anymore! Those two idiots must have already alerted the enemy. Waiting any longer will be disadvantageous to us!"

"Everyone, show your weapons! Especially that individual rocket launcher; make sure it's calibrated!

As long as that kid named Song Yang dares to show his head, blast him immediately! Do not give him any chance to counterattack!"

"Yes!"

A minute later, the Soldiers were ready.

Zhang Zhengguo inspected the combat squad in front of him.

"Old Liu, you take the first squad and infiltrate from the east side. Be careful to stay hidden. Your main task is fire suppression. If you spot the target, do not open fire without my order."

"Everyone else, follow me and storm in from the front door!"

Zhang Zhengguo himself pulled an assault rifle from under his seat. "Remember, we might not be dealing with an ordinary person this time.

Keep your eyes peeled and your ears sharp; don't miss any movement!"

"The target has a 'mysterious object'. It's best if we can capture him alive, but if the situation goes south, kill him on sight!"

"Yes!"

The group said no more, quickly organized their equipment, and, using the cover of the night, quietly crept toward the Villa.
