55: Chapter 55 Preparing to Leave

Meanwhile, inside the safe house, Song Yang was fishing.

He reclined on the sofa, holding a fishing rod in his hand.

At the end of the line, there was no bait, but a small piece of dark chocolate instead.

On the carpet, two graceful figures wearing thick black blindfolds were crawling and groping around cautiously.

They were Bai Jie and Xiao Xue.

Bai Jie was dressed in black stockings and a hip-hugging skirt, her curves fully revealed, and her two large 'cannons' were dizzying to behold.

Xiao Xue wore white stockings with a loli uniform, looking sexy amidst her purity.

Deprived of vision, they could only rely on their sense of smell and hearing to locate the piece of chocolate.

Whenever one of them seemed close to the target, about to touch the chocolate with her lips, Song Yang would lightly lift his wrist.

The fishing rod would rise accordingly, carrying the chocolate just out of their reach.

While he was playing, a knock suddenly came from outside the door.

Through the surveillance, Song Yang saw the scene outside.

Under the pale beam of a flashlight stood six figures.

Leading them was a short, stocky man, followed by three others dressed similarly.

Several of them wore motorcycle helmets and thick leather jackets or padded coats, holding tools like crowbars and machetes.

In front of them, two men with their hands tied behind their backs were being shoved forward as shields; they were other residents of this building.

"Brother Song Yang! Please have mercy and save us! They said if you don't open the door, they'll kill us first!"

"Yeah, Song Yang! We didn't want to disturb you! They forced us! Please, we beg you!"

The two were crying with snot and tears streaming down their faces.

Lao Wu knocked on the door and pointed at the two terrified men, laughing.

"Brother Song Yang, I heard these blind Grandsons caused some trouble for you before and even tried to break into your home?"

"I caught them specifically for you today. How to deal with them is up to you! I'm mainly here this time to make a friend and discuss a collaboration."

"Let's be blunt; you're a capable man, Brother. It's not easy for one person to guard so many good things."

"Look, I have the manpower, and you have the supplies. In this world, going solo definitely won't work. If we join forces, won't these nearby streets be ours to command?"

"When that time comes, we'll eat well and drink well, and there'll be no shortage of women. Isn't that better than living in fear every day guarding this little bit of stuff?"

Seeing no movement in the room for a long time, Lao Wu grabbed the hair of the man next to him and pressed a dagger against his throat.

"Brother Song Yang, I know you don't trust me. I'll kill these two right now to show my sincerity."

Despite this, there was still no movement inside the room.

Song Yang didn't care about the life or death of those two Neighbors; his attention was drawn by an unusual scent.

After his physical attributes were comprehensively enhanced, his sense of smell had become extremely sensitive, far exceeding that of ordinary people.

At this moment, he clearly caught a very strange smell wafting in from outside the door.

This was definitely not a smell a human should have.

Even the sweat of someone who hadn't bathed for ten days, the smell of blood, or the scent of an infected wound were all distinctly different from this.

Song Yang's eyes narrowed as he stared at the people in the surveillance footage.

Was this smell emanating from them?

Or were they carrying something special?

Song Yang's brain worked rapidly. Since his physical attributes improved, his memory retrieval ability also far exceeded what it once was.

It was in his previous life, when food had run out and he ventured out of his hiding place to scavenge for anything edible in the supermarket outside the neighborhood.

While searching, he suddenly saw a corpse that had been lying by a shelf moving in an extremely eerie posture.

The corpse wore a security guard uniform, and half of its head was long gone.

But that wasn't what made Song Yang's skin crawl the most.

What truly made his hair stand on end was that on the back of the corpse, there was a Blood-red Insect clinging to it!

The insect's tentacles were deeply embedded in the corpse's flesh.

And that nauseating smell was emanating from that very insect!

Even more terrifyingly, more and more corpses in the supermarket stood up, and every single one had an insect on its back.

He had been scared out of his wits then and fled immediately. Those Blood-red Insects became his nightmare for a long time.

Now, the smell wafting in from the door was that exact same scent!

Song Yang's heart immediately sank.

If it were just a few ordinary people, he had countless ways to deal with them.

But the appearance of this smell fundamentally changed the nature of the situation.

The people outside had not only encountered a monster, but the monster had also left a scent mark on them.

Perhaps before long, that monster would follow the scent and turn this residential area into a complete slaughterhouse.

Removing the blindfolds from the two women on the floor, Song Yang's gaze swept over them as he said in a low voice:

"The plan has changed. We need to leave this neighborhood as soon as possible."

"Leave?"

Bai Jie was stunned, her face full of confusion. "Why? Isn't it quite safe here?"

Before she could finish, Song Yang interrupted her.

"Those people outside are stained with the scent of a monster. Before long, the monster will follow the scent here."

"When that time comes, everyone in this neighborhood will become walking corpses controlled by those insects. If you don't want to leave, you can stay; I won't stop you."

Seeing Song Yang's serious expression, Bai Jie and Xiao Xue also realized the gravity of the problem and agreed to follow him.

Since Song Yang said so, there must be a reason.

After all, if it weren't for Song Yang, the two of them would have starved to death long ago.

Meanwhile, outside the door.

Lao Wu had already slit the throats of both men he had captured, and blood pooled on the floor.

Looking up at the closed door, the smile on Lao Wu's face had completely vanished, replaced by a look of sinister malice.

"Damn it, giving him face and he doesn't want it!"

One of his subordinates behind him stepped forward.

"Fifth Brother, this kid is tough to crack! How about we just try smashing the wall?"

Lao Wu narrowed his eyes, staring at the thick metal door.

The crowbars and axes he brought were fine for concrete walls, but this was clearly no ordinary wall.

"Smashing the wall is useless, otherwise this kid wouldn't have survived until now. If all else fails, get the explosives over here! Blow a hole in it."

Hearing that explosives were to be used, the other three looked delighted.

A scarred man rubbed his hands excitedly.

"Should've done this long ago, why bother talking to this kid!"

Another man, who looked like a skinny monkey, licked his dry lips, his stomach letting out an uncooperative growl.

"Damn, I've only had one piece of bread these past few days."

He smacked his lips as if he could already taste the food.

"Once the door is blown open, I'll be the first one to rush in. I don't care what's inside, I'm eating first!"

The burly guy next to him with a face full of flesh chuckled lewdly and shoved the skinny monkey.

"Look at you, only thinking about eating!"

"What's food? Those two chicks are the main course!"

He gestured toward the closed door with his chin.

"I heard they're top-tier, both with big chests and slender waists."

"Fifth Brother gets first pick, and the rest of us will have some real fun!"

They chatted back and forth, as if they had already seen the door broken down, a table full of delicacies for the taking, and two beauties at their mercy.

Days of hunger and suppression made them tremble with excitement, and they were practically drooling.

Lao Wu frowned at his subordinates' pathetic behavior and then commanded:

"You guys keep an eye on this door so the kid doesn't escape. I'm going to get Brother Hu."

After saying that, Lao Wu took the flashlight and went downstairs, leaving the three men to guard the door.
