80: Chapter 80 Searching for Strange Objects

Having arranged everything properly, Song Yang left the manor on foot, alone.

He did this for two reasons: first, to remain hidden; second, to take this opportunity to hone his strength.

On the road to the city center, ruins could be seen everywhere, and abandoned vehicles blocked the streets in disarray.

On the pitch-black streets, rustling noises could be heard from time to time; it was mutated creatures moving in the shadows.

Relying on his evolved vision, which far exceeded that of an ordinary person, Song Yang could see everything before him, even in total darkness.

As he was walking, the shadows at the entrance of a convenience store ahead writhed.

"Hiss—"

A black shadow lunged out as fast as lightning!

It was a Tricolor Cat, but its body had swollen to the size of an ordinary adult dog.

In its eye sockets were three pairs of scarlet vertical pupils, and its sharp claws aimed straight for Song Yang's throat.

Just as the foul-smelling cat paw was about to touch his skin, Song Yang tilted his body slightly, dodging the lethal strike at an angle difficult for an ordinary person to achieve.

The Tricolor Cat missed its strike, and before it could adjust its posture, a silver light had already flashed past.

The dagger in Song Yang's hand, moving from bottom to top, precisely sliced open the Tricolor Cat's neck.

Blood sprayed out, and the massive feline body stiffened for an instant in mid-air before crashing heavily to the ground, motionless.

Song Yang shook the blood droplets off his dagger and continued walking forward.

A mutated creature of this level was nothing more than an appetizer to him.

Killing this cat only added less than twenty experience points.

His current survival rank evaluation remained: Doomsday Elite Survivor.

(Experience 329 / 1000)

There was still some distance to go before becoming a Survival Expert.

He continued forward.

Not long after, Song Yang's gaze was drawn to a trash can on the street corner.

Beside the trash can, two corpses were curled up, already highly decomposed and emitting a nauseating stench.

Judging from their tattered clothing and bodies that were almost nothing but skeletons, they had likely been starving for a long time before they died.

A rusty fruit knife was still stuck in the ribs of one of the corpses, while the other had a pierced throat, clearly having died an unnatural death.

It appeared that this man and woman had likely clashed while fighting over the trash in the bin, ultimately perishing together.

Judging from their young faces, which could still be vaguely recognized, they might have even been a couple when they were alive.

In the doomsday, such tragedies were played out every day.

He did not have any excess sympathy to pity them.

In this dog-eat-dog world, only one's own strength was the only reliance.

The law of the jungle, where the weak are prey to the strong and only the fittest survive, was simply the law of nature.

Song Yang withdrew his gaze and suddenly quickened his pace.

His current running speed had already surpassed the fastest land creature on Earth before the apocalypse—the cheetah!

It reached forty meters per second!

Even a world champion would feel inferior and concede defeat if they saw this.

Three hours later, Song Yang's figure appeared on top of a skyscraper at the edge of the commercial district.

The concrete jungle, which once symbolized urban prosperity and the pinnacle of human civilization, had now completely become a paradise for mutated creatures.

According to the intelligence provided by Liu Dahai, that mysterious object was likely hidden in the core area of this commercial district.

"Boom!"

A dull, thunderous sound suddenly came from the southeast, followed by dense gunfire sounding like popping beans, and the furious roar of some non-human creature.

Soon, Song Yang crept onto a broken overpass with an excellent view.

In the distance, there was chaos.

The outer walls of several buildings were like thin paper torn apart by immense force; steel bars were twisted, and concrete blocks scattered everywhere.

Amidst the swirling dust, the figures of several people were reflected.

It was Du Haoxuan, Uncle Biao, and their group!

They looked quite disheveled at the moment; the original team of nine was now reduced to six, and they were relying on the ruins of the building to desperately pour fire at a huge shadow.

Their opponent was a giant beast the size of a heavy truck!

The giant beast looked much like a mutated lizard, its entire body covered in a thick, dark-greenish-black shell.

Every time its thick limbs stepped on the ground, the surrounding earth trembled slightly, leaving behind shallow pits.

Most striking was its hideous head, covered in thick bone spurs, and a long tail covered in layers of bone plates that could easily smash concrete walls to pieces with every sweep.

This was none other than that Earth-Digging Armored Dragon!

Song Yang's eyes narrowed; could that mysterious object be on this monster?

Or, was the "mysterious object" it guarded nearby, and this group had just happened to stumble into the monster's alert range?

The firearms in the hands of Uncle Biao and the others spat tongues of fire, but the bullets hitting the Earth-Digging Armored Dragon's shell only sparked slightly.

Occasionally, a few large-caliber armor-piercing rounds could barely break through a bit of the surface defense, only to further enrage the ferocious beast.

"Roar—!"

The Earth-Digging Armored Dragon let out a deafening roar and lunged forward, its massive head slamming fiercely into an abandoned bus that was serving as cover.

"Boom!"

The bus, as if hit head-on by a battering ram, instantly deformed and twisted, flying over a dozen meters away and rolling to collapse half of a storefront.

The two strong men hiding behind the vehicle couldn't even manage a scream before being swept into it, their fates unknown.

"Hold the line! Everyone hold the line for me!"

Uncle Biao shouted while covering the escape of the blond young man beside him.

They had originally planned to sneak into the Earth-Digging Armored Dragon's lair while the monster was away.

But as soon as they entered, the Earth-Digging Armored Dragon had actually returned, catching them red-handed.

Watching the group flee in a panic, gradually leading the Earth-Digging Armored Dragon away into the distance, Song Yang leaped down from the broken overpass.

This well-equipped team had ventured deep into this place, and even risked a head-on confrontation with such a terrifying creature; it was absolutely impossible that they were just sightseeing.

What they were plotting was likely the "mysterious object" mentioned by Liu Dahai.

He did not choose to chase after Du Haoxuan and the others, but instead walked in the opposite direction from where they had come—the area where the Earth-Digging Armored Dragon had previously been entrenched.

In its rage, the giant beast had already plowed a wide, deep trench into the ground, scattering soil and gravel everywhere, leading straight into the depths of the commercial district.

A moment later, a large chain supermarket appeared before Song Yang.

The supermarket sign hung crookedly, with only a few incomplete letters remaining.

The automatic glass doors had long since shattered, and the metal frames were twisted and deformed, revealing a pitch-black entrance.

"It seems this is the lair of the Earth-Digging Armored Dragon; that group probably wanted to sneak in here and steal something while the monster was out foraging."

Song Yang thought to himself.

After confirming there were no other lurking threats in the vicinity, he entered the supermarket.
