218: Chapter 218 Dying in battle is a man's destiny
Three days later.
Dajing City, the top floor of a certain building.
This place was once the most luxurious den of iniquity in the entire city; now, only a mess remained.
Siso leaned back on a leather sofa that was still relatively intact, lazily swirling the wine glass in his hand.
The person pouring wine for him was a female War God Level from another city.
The woman was wearing a damaged combat suit, and around her fair neck was a silver collar flickering with faint electric sparks.
Since the arrival of this group of extraterrestrial visitors, in just three short days, more than thirty War God Level experts, including her, and over three hundred Evolvers had all been reduced to prisoners.
They had resisted, but the result was despair.
The strength they were so proud of was as fragile as a baby's in front of these Star Pirates.
"Captain, these natives are too inefficient."
A Star Pirate walked over, his tone full of impatience, "We've already captured their strongest batch of people and made them search for the mysterious object day and night, but we still haven't even gathered a fraction of what's needed for the spaceship's energy."
He glanced at the woman pouring the wine, his eyes fierce:
"If you ask me, we should kill a few of the most disobedient ones to see if they dare to slack off again!"
Siso didn't look at him, just drained the wine in his glass and handed the empty cup to the woman.
"Clu, is there nothing left in your brain besides muscles and slaughter?"
"We have been wandering in the universe for hundreds of years; can't you wait even this little bit of time?"
"Fear is the best whip, but hope is the strongest chain. Let them live, then tell them that as long as the spaceship can be started, we will leave. Only then will they fight with all their might to dig for it in order to survive."
"Besides, the spaceship's energy is only a minor problem."
Siso stood up, walked to the huge floor-to-ceiling window, and overlooked the deathly silent city below, "Our real trouble is the lost cargo."
"That egg is our everything. I admit I shouldn't have left the egg in Lina's care. The murderer who took the egg must be found."
At this moment, a subordinate Star Pirate walked in from outside the door.
Behind him, he dragged a ragged figure.
The man was shoved heavily to the ground, crawling on the floor, trembling uncontrollably.
"Captain, spare my life! I don't want to die! I know a place, a place that hides many people!"
Siso looked down at the man on the ground, seemingly very interested in this statement.
"Oh? Tell me about it."
The man seemed to have grabbed a straw for survival, suddenly raising his head, his face full of tears:
"An Underground City! A huge Underground City! It can hold at least one hundred thousand people! It's right under Dajing City! They have their own ecological recycling system and plenty of supplies!"
Fearing that Siso wouldn't believe him, he added eagerly:
"As long as you let me live, I can personally lead you there!"
"Very good."
Siso nodded, "As long as you tell me the exact location, I guarantee you won't have to be a slave anymore."
After the man kowtowed a few times, he spilled everything about the location of the Underground City's entrance and its internal structure.
After finishing, he looked at Siso full of expectation, waiting for that pardon.
Siso walked slowly to the man, reached out, as if to pat his shoulder to show encouragement.
The man was shaking with excitement.
The next moment, that hand suddenly clamped onto his crown.
"Crack."
A crisp sound of bone cracking.
The man's expression froze at the moment of ecstasy, his skull deformed and shattered in Siso's palm, and red and white matter splattered all over the floor.
Siso shook his hand in disgust, then instructed the subordinate nearby:
"Go occupy that Underground City."
"Screen everyone inside; the murderer who killed Lina is likely hiding there."
...
Dahai City, basement.
The white light of the virtual space faded. Song Yang opened his eyes; the phantom of the spear seemed to still be held in his palm, and a lingering numbness from the fighting remained between his knuckles.
For three days and three nights, except for the minimum rest to maintain physical function, he had almost immersed himself in honing his spear technique.
The Star Spear Technique was strange and tricky, with every move hiding a killing intent, completely different from the open and closing combat style he used in the past.
Now, his use of power had become meticulous, and every gesture carried an introverted sharpness.
As he was now, if he faced the Beast Emperor again, Song Yang was confident that he could take its life within three strikes.
Leaving the Villa, he came to the Exchange.
Song Yang pushed the door and entered. The brightly lit, bustling hall in his memory now only had scattered tables and chairs and a thick layer of dust.
"You finally came."
Boss Li's voice came out. His hair was messy, his expensive suit was wrinkled, and he was holding two glasses of crimson liquid.
He pushed one of them toward Song Yang.
"Taste it, Lafite wine. Every glass you drink now is one less. In a few days, I'm afraid there won't even be anyone left to drink it."
"Those bastards from outside the sky have captured all my customers. Now the morale is gone, the team is scattered, and my Exchange is about to go out of business."
He gulped down a large mouthful of wine, not even noticing the wine spilling onto his collar.
"If we don't find a way to kill those guys in the sky soon, we're all done for! Completely done for!"
"I've worked so hard for so long, not to become someone's slave!"
Song Yang listened to Boss Li's complaints and could indeed understand.
A tycoon who had been thriving in the apocalypse, supporting hundreds of people under him, and already a late-stage War God Level himself, was now like a gambler who had lost everything, waiting here to die.
"Relying on anyone is useless!"
Boss Li drank another mouthful of wine, his eyes bloodshot. "Those hundreds of people under me, the moment they heard they were going to be captured by aliens as slaves, they all ran away!"
He slammed the wine glass on the table with a "bang," and then grabbed Song Yang's shoulder.
"Song Yang, my brother, this time, I can only bet everything on you!"
He leaned in very close, the smell of alcohol spraying on Song Yang's face. "You are different from all of us; I can tell! From the first time you walked through my door, I knew it!"
"There's a drive in you, unlike us guys rolling in the mud!"
"You must have a way, right? You must be able to kill those bastards in the sky!"
Song Yang didn't move, letting Boss Li's hand grip his shoulder.
Soon, Boss Li let go, staggered back two steps, and collapsed into a chair. His whole person slumped, as if his spine had been pulled out.
"My wife, my son have long been gone. I think every day about why I am living."
"In my life, I've cheated people, harmed people, my hands aren't clean, I'm a complete bastard."
He suddenly raised his head, and a ferocious ruthlessness appeared on his tear-stained face.
"But let me be a slave to those bastards in the sky? Kneel in front of them and beg for mercy?"
"I absolutely won't do it!"
"Brother Song, I have a worthless life, nothing left to be attached to."
"As long as you can let me die with dignity, I'll go through mountains of blades and seas of fire. If I blink an eye, I'm not a man!"
"Dying in battle, for me, is perhaps the best final destination."
