63: Chapter 63 Heading to the Villa District
Mike stopped wasting words and swung the steel pipe toward Song Yang's head.
But Song Yang was much faster, backhanding him with an axe that struck his shoulder.
David rushed up, only to be kicked in the head by Song Yang, collapsing to the ground unconscious.
Song Yang turned the axe blade toward Mike's neck and pulled out that flower.
I heard you talking about the Exchange just now. Tell me more.
Mike's Adam's apple bobbed. He didn't doubt for a second that if he didn't speak, his throat would be slit by this blade.
On the west side of the wealthy district, there's the largest manor. The owner's surname is Li, and everyone calls him Boss Li.
Mike spoke very quickly, "He opened an Exchange in his Villa. Anything rare or special can be traded there for food, water, or even weapons!"
We only heard about it and wanted to get some things to try our luck.
Song Yang didn't speak; he was judging the authenticity of this information.
This Boss Li being able to establish an Exchange in the apocalypse showed that his strength was extraordinary.
Song Yang's contemplation gave Mike a glimmer of hope.
His hand behind his back quietly reached toward his waist—a dagger was hidden there.
Just one strike, catching him off guard, to stab into Song Yang's neck or heart.
However, he underestimated Song Yang, who had experienced death and rebirth once before.
Just as his fingers touched the dagger's hilt and before he could pull it out, Song Yang exerted force with the wrist holding the fire axe, and the blade sliced through Mike's throat.
Blood gushed out. Mike looked at Song Yang in disbelief, then slumped down limply.
Zhao Lin, who had been sitting paralyzed on the side and was almost scared silly, scrambled over to Song Yang's feet and grabbed his pant leg.
Song Yang, I'm sorry. Please, take me with you. I can't survive alone.
As long as you take me in, I'll do anything. I beg you.
Song Yang kicked Zhao Lin's hand away and turned to leave the hotel.
At this moment, inside the SUV parked in the shadows at the street corner, Bai Jie and Xiao Xue's hearts were almost in their throats.
If anything happened to Song Yang, they wouldn't be far from death themselves.
When they saw Song Yang walk out of the hotel, both women let out a sigh of relief simultaneously.
Song Yang opened the car door and sat inside. A faint scent of blood drifted into the vehicle with his movement.
The SUV started and headed toward the wealthy district.
Ruined walls and debris were visible everywhere on the road. Occasionally, shadows could be seen darting past, accompanied by a few low roars from the distance, reminding them that this world no longer belonged to humans.
Besides those inhuman monsters, scattered survivors could also be seen on the road.
Most of them were emaciated beyond recognition, rummaging everywhere for anything that could fill their stomachs.
As the SUV approached, a few figures lingering by the roadside suddenly raised their heads. A glimmer of light flashed in their eyes, which immediately turned into madness.
They rushed to the middle of the road, waving their arms, attempting to stop the car.
Song Yang floored the accelerator. Instead of slowing down, the speed increased, and he drove straight toward those people blocking the center of the road.
Dull thuds rang out one after another, and the sound of breaking bones traveled through the bottom of the car into the vehicle.
Three hours later, the car finally arrived at the Tianchang District, where the city's wealthy gathered.
Tianchang District was different from other areas of the city; there were no high-rise buildings here, only Villa manors nestled among green trees.
Compared to the devastated scenes outside, filled with corpses everywhere, this place was simply like another world.
The car interior was eerily quiet for a moment.
Song Yang's gaze swept over the manors they passed. He discovered that several manor walls were equipped with barbed wire, and he could occasionally catch glimpses of prying eyes hidden behind heavy curtains.
In a few houses, he could even vaguely see light; it seemed the lights were on inside the Villas.
The SUV followed the numbering system, finally stopping in front of Manor No. 36.
After confirming there was nothing unusual inside, Song Yang signaled for the two women to follow, and they entered the manor through a small gate.
The light inside the Villa was somewhat dim, with only a floor lamp lit in the corner of the living room.
Two women were sitting on the sofa in the living room.
Zhang Xinmei was wearing loungewear, reclining on the sofa.
Her niece, Zhang Yu, was wearing a simple T-shirt and jeans, sitting on the sofa and staring at a bag of sausages on the coffee table.
The two were worrying about how to distribute this last bit of food.
Before the apocalypse, they hadn't stored much food. After scrimping and saving for the past few days, they had finally reached the end of their rope.
The sound of the door opening startled them.
Zhang Xinmei and Zhang Yu both suddenly looked up toward the door.
When they saw clearly that it was Song Yang who had walked in, a flash of astonishment first crossed Zhang Xinmei's face, followed immediately by undisguised surprise.
Song Yang?
Zhang Xinmei stood up, as if she had seen a savior.
But when she saw two women following behind Song Yang, the smile on Zhang Xinmei's face faltered slightly, and her brows furrowed almost imperceptibly.
Those two women, one charming and one elegant, followed behind Song Yang, appearing somewhat reserved.
But Zhang Xinmei was no ordinary person; her thoughts returned to normal in the blink of an eye, and her smile even became a bit more enthusiastic.
It was the apocalypse; it was perfectly normal for a capable man to have a few more women by his side.
Song Yang could foresee the disaster in advance; he was clearly not an ordinary person. She had only slept with him a few times, so how could she possibly tie him down?
Surviving was what mattered most.
Song Yang, you finally came! I thought...
Zhang Xinmei walked up to him, her voice filled with the relief of surviving a disaster and a hint of imperceptible familiarity. "Come in quickly, it's not safe outside."
Song Yang nodded and looked at the lonely bag of sausages on the coffee table, understanding the predicament inside the house.
Zhang Yu also stood up; she appeared much more nervous than Zhang Xinmei.
If Song Yang hadn't told them to stockpile some food back then, she would probably have starved to death long ago.
The atmosphere in the living room was somewhat subtle for a moment.
Bai Jie and Xiao Xue stood behind Song Yang, keeping their heads down and eyes lowered, trying their best to minimize their presence.
They could feel Zhang Xinmei and Zhang Yu's scrutiny, especially the familiar, hostess-like demeanor Zhang Xinmei exuded, which made them feel a bit uncomfortable, yet they dared not show it in the slightest.
It seems you don't have enough food here.
Song Yang broke the silence, his gaze landing on that bag of sausages.
A hint of bitterness appeared on Zhang Xinmei's face:
Yeah, this is all that's left. I was just worrying about what to do next.
I brought some food.
As he spoke, Song Yang took a backpack out of his system space.
The backpack was placed on the coffee table. The zipper was pulled open, revealing the biscuits, canned goods, and bottled water inside.
Zhang Xinmei and Zhang Yu's eyes lit up simultaneously. Especially Zhang Yu; seeing that food, her tense body relaxed quite a bit, and her stomach gave an untimely growl, making her blush instantly.
Eat something to tide you over first. We'll have a big meal later.
Song Yang's tone was calm, yet it carried an unquestionable power.
Zhang Xinmei gave Song Yang a grateful look, unceremoniously picked up a bottle of water and a can to hand to Zhang Yu, and took some for herself as well.
She had no objections to Song Yang's arrangements; on the contrary, she felt it was only natural.
Biscuits were stuffed into their mouths, and canned meat slid down their throats. Their empty stomachs were finally filled a little, and that clawing, agonizing hunger receded slightly.
Zhang Xinmei and Zhang Yu were practically wolfing down the food, not caring about their manners. The hunger of the past few days had given them the most primal craving for food.
Follow me.
Seeing that they had eaten enough, Song Yang turned and walked toward the kitchen.
