158: Chapter 158 Stealing the Dragon Egg
Song Yang followed Brother Bao's group like a ghost, trailing them at a leisurely pace.
He suppressed all his aura, even restricting his spiritual sense to a tiny radius, keeping a tight lock on the seven moving figures ahead.
"Brother Bao, why do I feel like it's getting colder and colder?"
It was that skinny man with the sharp chin and monkey-like features again, exhaling a puff of white mist.
"Can you fucking shut up? If you're cold, rub your own arms!"
A burly man with a face full of scars standing next to Brother Bao growled impatiently.
Brother Bao didn't speak, but he turned back and swept a cold gaze over the skinny man, who immediately swallowed his words and pulled his neck further into his collar.
After walking for an unknown amount of time, the path ahead suddenly opened up.
A massive limestone cave, resembling an underground palace, appeared before everyone's eyes.
The dome of the cave was so high the ceiling was invisible, and countless thick stalactites hung down like sharp swords, illuminating the space in a ghostly blue light.
Everyone stopped in their tracks, stunned by the sight before them.
"We're here. This should be the place."
Brother Bao was exceptionally excited.
Before his voice could fade...
Hiss—
Hiss hiss—
A series of scalp-numbing tongue-flicks came from ahead.
Everyone focused their gaze and saw several unimaginably massive creatures coiled around the stone pillars in the center of the open area of the cave.
They were snakes—or rather, giant pythons.
Each one was as thick as a water bucket, their iron-black scales glinting coldly under the ghostly light. Their triangular heads were raised high, and their yellow vertical pupils, like pairs of ghost fires, stared coldly at these uninvited guests.
"Iron-Scaled Giant Pythons! Fuck, they're mutants!"
Brother Bao's face instantly turned pale as he recognized the origin of these monsters.
"Brother Bao, what do we do? These things have thick hides and tough flesh; I'm afraid bullets won't break through their defense!"
The skinny man's legs were already shaking with fear, and he could barely stand.
"What are you afraid of?! Wealth is found in danger!"
Scarface, who hadn't spoken much, spat on the ground. "Kill them, and the dragon egg is ours!"
Everyone's gaze subconsciously passed through the gaps between the pythons' bodies, looking behind them.
In that guarded area, they could vaguely see a massive nest made of unknown licorice and a large amount of animal hides, spanning over ten meters wide.
Next to the nest was a small pool less than three square meters in area. The water was an eerie crimson color, as if it were a pool of collected blood.
In the very center of the pool stood an egg quietly.
It was a white beast egg about half the height of a person, crystal clear throughout, like a piece of fine mutton-fat jade.
Just one look was enough to feel the surging vitality contained within it.
Everyone's breath hitched at this moment.
The fear brought by the Iron-Scaled Giant Pythons was instantly replaced by a more burning greed.
This was the Black Dragon Egg!
The offspring of a powerful monster.
Hiding in the distance, Song Yang saw even more than Brother Bao and the others.
Inside that giant egg, he could clearly 'see' the curled-up silhouette of a life form. The surging life energy was like a small sun gestating within.
He shifted his gaze from the giant egg to the several restless Iron-Scaled Giant Pythons, then glanced at Brother Bao's group of seven, who had temporarily forgotten their fear due to greed.
The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind.
The old plan: wait for them to start fighting first.
"Go!"
Scarface was the first to lose his patience. He raised the assault rifle in his hand and fired a burst of bullets at the head of the nearest Iron-Scaled Giant Python.
Bang bang bang bang!
However, those bullets hit the python's iron-black scales only to set off a series of sparks and produce a clinking sound; they couldn't even leave a white mark.
"Roar!"
The enraged python let out a soul-shaking roar. Its bucket-thick body suddenly coiled and sprang, sweeping toward Scarface like an out-of-control heavy truck.
"Get out of the way!" Brother Bao roared, his eyes nearly popping out of his head.
The battle erupted instantly.
The seven people dodged and counterattacked clumsily among the massive creatures. Gunshots, roars, and the hissing of snakes mixed together in a scene of total chaos.
While the area below turned into a chaotic mess, no one noticed that Song Yang, behind the shadow of a giant rock, had moved.
His figure rose silently, avoiding everyone's sight and flying straight toward the high dome of the cave.
His goal was crystal clear—bypass the battlefield below and take the dragon egg directly from above.
"Brother Bao! On the right! The one on the right is coming!"
The burly man with the scarred face roared toward Brother Bao while swinging his knife.
Brother Bao performed a clumsy roll, narrowly avoiding the tail swipe of another giant python.
The snake's tail swept through where he had just been standing with a violent wind, smashing a deep trench into the hard rock floor.
Still shaken, he subconsciously looked up, seemingly wanting to check the status of the stalactites above to prevent them from falling.
It was this one look that made him feel like he'd been struck by lightning, freezing him in place.
Under the dim blue light, a figure was slowly descending from high above, his posture as composed as if he were strolling in his own backyard.
And the direction that person was descending toward was the center of the nest guarded by the pythons—that giant white egg radiating surging vitality!
Song Yang!
He actually wasn't dead!
He had been following them the whole time!
He wanted to steal the dragon egg!
"Song Yang—!"
Brother Bao's eyes turned blood-red as he let out a hysterical roar.
"Don't you even think about taking the dragon egg for yourself!"
He no longer cared about the pythons eyeing him nearby. He changed direction and, using all his strength, sprinted toward the dragon egg like a madman.
But how could the speed of two legs compare to flight?
Just as Brother Bao had roared and rushed less than ten meters, Song Yang had already landed lightly by the blood-colored pool, only inches away from the half-person-high dragon egg.
This scene clearly fell into the eyes of the others.
"What? It's that kid named Song!"
"He's not dead? How can he fly?"
"Son of a bitch! He wants to keep the dragon egg all to himself!"
Everyone's actions came to a halt at this moment.
They looked at Song Yang, who was high above and had already beaten them to it, then looked at the invulnerable monsters in front of them. A sense of humiliation from being fooled and an even more burning greed surged in their hearts.
"Kill him!"
Scarface was the first to react. He turned his gun, no longer paying attention to the pythons, and pulled the trigger toward Song Yang with bloodshot eyes.
"Kill this bastard!"
"Don't let him get it!"
In an instant, everyone's target shifted from the Iron-Scaled Giant Pythons to Song Yang.
