124: Chapter 124 The Deserted Town
Her eyes blinked slightly. The blue sky and white clouds above were moving slowly, and a ray of sunlight spilled onto her face, giving her pupils a psychedelic hue.
Jiang Xinyi clutched her dizzy head, stretched, and stood up quickly.
She muttered to herself, "It seems you succeeded, Chen Mo!"
She smiled.
Turning her head, she saw Chen Mo with a cigarette in his mouth, leaning against the wall, lost in quiet thought.
"That's right. The place we are currently in is Peters Town."
"You have all been asleep for five consecutive hours."
"After I entered this town, the off-road vehicle automatically disappeared, and I also entered a dormant state. By the time I woke up, it was already daylight."
Jiang Xinyi shielded her forehead with her palm and gazed out.
The entire town was shrouded in a hazy gloom.
Dilapidated buildings stood crookedly; the walls were mottled, the paint peeling away to reveal rotting wood and brickwork.
The stone pavement was fragmented, with withered yellow weeds growing between the cracks. Jiang Xinyi had only ever seen this kind of grass in a graveyard.
The surrounding houses had their doors and windows tightly shut, like silent ghosts. Occasionally, a chill wind would blow past, making the slightly ajar glass doors howl.
"Where is the Wax Museum?" Jiang Xinyi asked, puzzled.
"I don't know. This time, I woke up half an hour earlier than you all, but the dungeon has restrictions—everyone must be awake before we can take action."
Hearing Chen Mo's words, Jiang Xinyi tried walking toward the distance.
However, as soon as she stepped onto the main street's paving stones, her body could not move forward any further. An invisible air wall blocked her.
She was like a character in some games; no matter how she jumped or rammed, she simply could not pass forward.
She looked back at the three people lying on the ground.
Su Qing and Xu Xiaoman were curled up together sleeping like koalas.
The scene was very harmonious; if someone had specific hobbies, they might even be unable to resist 'shipping' them or writing fanfiction about them.
Lu Chengfeng, on the other hand, was like a discarded trash bag, his legs hooked over a railing, sleeping soundly.
While sleeping, he was talking in his sleep: "I really am not that Lu who wears a police uniform after work!"
Meng Zhou had also woken up; he was hugging his knees, squatting in front of a nearby Villa.
But due to his extremely low presence, Jiang Xinyi hadn't noticed him at first.
"Chen Mo, I feel like you must have more findings than just these." Jiang Xinyi leaned in toward Chen Mo.
"First, there is a river at the edge of Peters Town; it acts like a knife, severing the town from the outside world."
"Second, there is no one in this town. Of course, that doesn't rule out the possibility of people or even monsters inside the houses."
"Third, there is a conspicuous building here, that church, which proves that this dungeon must be related to some kind of faith."
"And one last point, though it's probably useless: after the aurora disappeared, mobile signals recovered, but... the phone's navigation shows that this town does not exist on the map!"
Jiang Xinyi heard this and began to think.
"However, since it is a Human Wax Museum, the most important thing is to first find where the Wax Museum is. There must be many terrifying wax figures inside, and there will also be clues."
Chen Mo agreed with her line of thinking. The three waited for the others to wake up.
Chen Mo turned his head to look at Jiang Xinyi, who was fiddling with the wax figure in her hand.
Just before Jiang Xinyi fell unconscious, she had told Chen Mo the rest of the map in one breath.
Chen Mo certainly wouldn't mind; he just needed to follow the navigation from the playback step by step.
However, there was one point that made Chen Mo feel very puzzled. The President's memory was very strong, stronger than his own. She would absolutely not misremember the map route.
But when Chen Mo was driving past the last intersection, the route the President gave him was wrong and did not match the route provided by the navigation.
If Chen Mo had taken the wrong route at that time, it wouldn't have caused him to arrive at Peters Town late.
But to take a detour when one could have taken the normal route—this is something no normal person would accept.
Another 30 minutes passed, and the three of them woke up one after another. The group began searching for clues in the town according to Chen Mo's findings.
The streets were empty. The group randomly arrived in front of a Villa, wanting to see what the scene inside was like.
Lu Chengfeng was the tallest, at 1.85 meters. He volunteered to go up and check.
As a result, when he arrived at the Villa's entrance and knocked on the door, no one answered. After walking around the house, Lu Chengfeng was completely dumbfounded.
"The house only has a door, no windows?"
Chen Mo pointed to the top, signaling him to look up. Lu Chengfeng raised his head, his brows knitting together.
"What the hell? Only the second floor has windows?"
"Is this the Thriller Game? Who designed this game? If they aren't a genius, then what are they?"
"Chen Mo... were all the dungeons you encountered before like this?" Lu Chengfeng asked.
"No. We have only participated in one dungeon each, so we count as beginners," Su Qing explained proactively.
The President also nodded and replied, "And this is a true death game. The 'Infinite Train' dungeon I participated in was a large-scale group dungeon with a total of 100 players, and in the end, only 3 people were left alive."
Even the taciturn Meng Zhou chimed in, "The Thriller Game also has a rhythm. If dungeons come one after another, for example... just clearing one dungeon and having another one the next day, I think any normal person would definitely collapse."
"Only a few people who are extremely calm or have abnormal thinking can accept it."
Hearing Meng Zhou's words, Chen Mo sighed inwardly. "I am the former, definitely not the latter."
At this moment, Xu Xiaoman, who had also cleared two dungeons, seemed to be trying to hide her little secret and deliberately spoke up.
"That's right! That's right! The Thriller Game is fair; everyone enters dungeons at the same frequency, so the levels and resources obtained are the same."
"If a few people enter at a higher frequency than others, although they risk death, they also obtain more rewards."
"Then those people who get the rewards are just too hateful! They are already much stronger than us!"
Upon hearing this, Su Qing also clenched her fists to show agreement.
Chen Mo, the President, and Meng Zhou all stared at Xu Xiaoman, showing expressions of confusion.
"Ah!" Xu Xiaoman's face instantly turned bright red. It felt like steam was about to spray from the top of her head. She poked her fingers together incessantly, lowered her head, and whispered, "Am I wrong?"
"Classmate Xiaoman, why don't you just hang a sign on your face saying that I am the one enjoying special treatment?" Chen Mo sighed inwardly.
How is this any different from covering one's ears while stealing a bell?
On the other hand, Chen Mo said nothing at this moment, which was actually the best camouflage. Say whatever you want; regardless, I don't know anything, I won't take initiative, and I won't give myself away.
"Classmate Xiaoman, could it be that you..." The President pointed at Xu Xiaoman, showing a suspicious expression.
Chen Mo's brows furrowed slightly. The President was too devious; she was determined to pry some information out of Xu Xiaoman.
Xu Xiaoman became even more flustered and wanted to say something to defend herself. However, Chen Mo suddenly spoke, interrupting everything.
"Lu Chengfeng, you and I will form a ladder so we can climb to the second floor and take a look."
"Xu Xiaoman, I heard from Jiyin that you have good athletic talent; you come help too."
Xu Xiaoman seemed to have grabbed a lifeline and rushed over immediately.
The President and Meng Zhou also wanted to follow. However, this wasn't the first time Su Qing and Chen Mo had worked together; Chen Mo had just given Su Qing a hint.
Su Qing understood in a second and immediately went to meet them with a smile, blocking the President and Meng Zhou, who also wanted to go over.
Looking over Su Qing's shoulder, Jiang Xinyi saw the three of them busy against the wall of the Villa and secretly clicked her tongue.
