22: Chapter 22 The Dean's Rules
Chen Mo grasped the door handle. The door was heavy, requiring three times the normal amount of effort to open.
After he pulled it open with force, an intensely chilling aura rushed towards his face.
Just by opening the door, Chen Mo's Mental Value dropped by 10 points!
Every pore on his body screamed in resistance.
What met his eyes was absolute darkness.
A few bats flapped their wings, brushing past Chen Mo's arms before landing on the two wall lamps by the doorway.
Immediately, the bats' feet seemed to melt, fusing with the light bulbs and transforming into two bat sculptures.
A "rustling" sound suddenly emerged from behind the bats.
Two dancing green ghost fires ignited behind the wings, dispelling a portion of the darkness.
A massive round dining table appeared, with a colossal shadow sitting behind it!
Chen Mo's pupils constricted slightly as he noticed a sign placed on the upper left corner of the round table.
[No. 18 Hospital Dean]
Chen Mo's brain went on standby for a few seconds as he considered what to say.
There are only two ways for a subordinate to handle meeting a superior.
One: Start sucking up immediately.
Two: Wait for the superior to speak while standing obediently.
Obviously, sucking up would be more effective.
However, the entity Chen Mo was facing now wasn't some tycoon, capitalist, or high-ranking official.
It was a thing that wasn't even human.
What could he possibly praise?
Should he clap his hands and offer praise with a bright, sunny smile?
"Oh my! Dean, the way you kill people is truly sharp—so handsome, so handsome!"
Chen Mo vetoed that kind of flattery immediately.
He remained silent for a moment.
The Dean finally made a move!
A massive hand, wrapped in bandages, reached out from the darkness, holding a lighter?
It then ignited something in the darkness, and a cluster of green ghost fire flared up.
It illuminated a bottle of red wine and a massive platter, large enough to hold half a roasted lamb, on the round table.
Chen Mo clearly saw the English words engraved on the wine bottle.
[Human blood]
Human blood?
And what was served on that massive platter were two human lower legs!
Chen Mo was very familiar with these legs; it wasn't his first time seeing them.
The woman's lower legs connected to a man's feet were a combination of the Shoe Ghost and Liu Xiaodong.
The Dean gripped a knife and fork, cut a piece, placed it on a plate suitable for human use, and pushed it towards Chen Mo.
"You must be hungry," it said. "Eat."
Chen Mo's face darkened.
He put on a flattering smile and quickly walked to the side of the round table.
He uncorked the red wine bottle and filled the Dean's goblet with a glass of Human blood!
"Dean, you should know my true identity."
"I am a human. I don't eat people."
After getting close to the Dean, Chen Mo finally saw its true appearance.
It was a monster wrapped from head to toe in bandages; the only exposed part of its body was its eyeballs.
As the ghost fire burned brighter, Chen Mo realized that it had been watching him the entire time!
There was no emotion in those eyes, only a calm like water, which made it even harder for Chen Mo to guess what it was thinking.
The two stared at each other for a moment.
It wasn't until Chen Mo pushed the glass of Human blood in front of the Dean that the Dean spoke again.
"Hehe, you're an interesting human. You're actually not afraid of me."
"The human players from before were all like rats in a sewer; they would run away frantically the moment they saw me."
"Interesting. I think highly of you!"
As it spoke, it reached out a hand as large as Chen Mo's head and patted his shoulder a few times.
"Huh?!"
Chen Mo was slightly dumbfounded.
"Hahaha, come, come! Let me give you something good. This is your reward for meeting me."
As it spoke, the Dean took out a white card from behind it and slapped it onto the table with a "smack."
Chen Mo looked closely, and the item information appeared in his mind.
[Double EXP Card: After use, all EXP gained within 3 days will be doubled.]
"Holy crap? A Double EXP Card?"
Chen Mo suddenly felt flattered. Was this legendary hidden mission actually this simple?
Was it just giving away gifts?
Moreover, for any game, this item was the most direct and effective way to boost a player's combat power within the first month of registration.
No matter how hard others worked, even if they achieved an S-rank rating, they definitely couldn't match Chen Mo's two A-ranks, or even two B+s!
Chen Mo stared at the Double EXP Card on the table, unable to hide the desire and excitement in his eyes.
Seeing this, the Dean added.
"Only you so-called 'players' can use this. I heard there's only one for every 100 newbie dungeons. It's super rare."
"Take it! This is my way of encouraging an excellent employee."
Happiness had come so suddenly that Chen Mo felt it was suspicious.
This was a death game; any plot triggered with an NPC carried a certain level of threat.
It was impossible to get something for nothing.
As Chen Mo had suspected, the moment his palm touched the Double EXP Card, the Dean spoke again.
"Actually… there is a hidden rule to the No. 18 Hospital dungeon."
"There are 6 players every time they enter, but only 2 people can leave this dungeon in the end."
"Because I need to eat 4 human brains within 3 days to ensure I have enough energy. That is my reward."
"And it is also a rule!"
Hearing this, Chen Mo's thoughts suddenly cleared. He understood everything.
The last day's mission was actually a trap!
A few hours ago, he and Su Qing had fed the class monitor's corpse to the mental patients in the pig cage, because that was a task Su Qing had to complete.
However, Chen Mo carefully recalled the events in his mind.
Wang Zhen, who died on the first day, had his head split open by the Deans Axe; that was clearly a warning.
It represented that what the Dean wanted was the players' brains.
Later, Zhao Fei was discarded by the class monitor and Liu Xiaodong at the Vending Machine. At that time, the class monitor and the others had not yet ghost-fied and had no craving for human flesh.
Therefore, the person who dragged away Zhao Fei's corpse was the Dean; the splattered blood proved this.
Because the Dean wanted to eat Zhao Fei's brain.
On the last day, just after pushing open the ward door, Chen Mo had originally assumed that the class monitor must have killed Liu Xiaodong.
However, the class monitor's own body had been tied to the hospital bed the whole time, and for Liu Xiaodong to be hanging from the ceiling in that state—even a ghost-fied class monitor couldn't have done it!
That meant it could only be the Dean. In reality, the Dean had killed Liu Xiaodong in the middle of the night and taken his brain!
The Dean said that only 2 people could survive in the end.
They were supposed to wait for the Dean to take the class monitor's brain, then Chen Mo and Su Qing would throw the class monitor's corpse into the pig cage, and the task would be considered complete.
But…
At this point, the class monitor's corpse must have already been eaten by those mental patients.
The Dean said he needed 4 human brains, but currently, he only had 3.
That meant that either Chen Mo or Su Qing had to die!
