134: Chapter 134 Brother Shen is Poisonous
Shen Weiyue walked downstairs, introspecting as he went.
It takes time to forget someone, but sometimes, time only brews longing into something richer and more heart-wrenching.
He admitted it; today, because of Counselor Chen Ruobing, he had thought of Liang Yuting. He wondered how she was doing now.
They had agreed to make a clean break and never contact each other again, but what man could ever truly forget his first woman?
It was nothing but self-deception.
Shen Weiyue shook his head, casting aside those useless thoughts, and headed straight for the Student Union.
Working on a weekend, they really had it tough.
The College of Computer Science had a dedicated office for the Student Union; the entire floor was filled with their offices.
When Shen Weiyue passed by the Department of Living, he saw that jerk Xiao Peng.
Xiao Peng froze for a second, assuming he had come to pick a fight, and his expression soured instantly.
Shen Weiyue gave a disdainful smile, brushed past him, and found the sign for the Department of Culture and Entertainment.
A table was set up in front of him, with two girls sitting behind it, heads down as they registered information. A dozen or so people were waiting in line.
Seeing him approach, the crowd glanced at him and then looked away.
"Oh! Nickname is here to sign up!"
A girl exclaimed in surprise. Shen Weiyue recognized her; she was the prettiest girl from the Second Platoon during military training.
He nodded faintly, saying nothing more.
After the name Nickname was called out, the others subconsciously remembered something and all turned their heads to look again.
So this was that freshman who had been so prominent lately; he was indeed somewhat handsome.
But he just sang one song, "Seventeen Years Old," and dared to challenge a Heavenly King? Where did he get the courage to sign up to perform on stage?
The line moved forward slowly. Those who had already signed up didn't leave; they all wanted to stay and see what this arrogant fellow planned to perform.
When it was Shen Weiyue's turn, the girl from the Department of Culture and Entertainment asked him, "Student Shen, are you signing up to sing again this time?"
"Yes." Shen Weiyue began to fill out the form.
"Then which song by Andy Lau are you planning to sing? 'Fate of the Afterlife' is pretty good…"
"I'm not singing an Andy Lau song. I'm singing 'Gray Track' by Beyond."
"Oh… huh?"
"That's the one. Since I've filled it out, that counts as signing up, right? Can I take a photo?" Shen Weiyue took out his phone.
The girl nodded blankly. He took a photo of the registration form and sent it via QQ to Counselor Chen Ruobing: "Mission accomplished. Remember your promise."
A dozen seconds later, Counselor Chen Ruobing replied: "Rest assured, my credibility is also very strong."
Shen Weiyue paused. This woman was indeed quite naive; she hadn't understood the meaning of that sentence in the office.
He held back again and again, but in the end, he couldn't resist sending a mischievous emoji: "Do you dare to send a voice message?"
Counselor Chen Ruobing suddenly realized what he meant. Her face turned as red as a pomegranate, and she slammed her phone down hard.
Damn it, this little bastard is truly hateful!
Fortunately, the phone's build quality was good, and it wasn't broken by her.
...
Approaching noon.
Shen Weiyue invited the three dogs in his dorm to have lunch at the school cafeteria. After eating, they asked him to go play ball, but Shen Weiyue refused.
"The three of you can form a team. With my substandard skills, I won't go and mess things up. I have other things to do."
"Hehe, you have good self-awareness. As long as you don't play, I'll never be able to crush you?"
Xie Dongming tossed his head confidently, his fat face breaking into a smile that made his eyes almost disappear.
Shen Weiyue didn't like arguing with idiots, so he nodded and replied, "Yes, yes, yes. Your reputation, 'Xiemus', is too overwhelming. I'm afraid of being crushed by you. You guys go ahead. I'm leaving."
The four of them parted ways at the cafeteria entrance.
Shen Weiyue returned to his dorm, closed the door, and began online interviews for studio writers on his computer.
He wanted to hire ten professional writers; over twenty people had sent private messages to apply.
Shen Weiyue didn't say much. He threw a chapter outline at them and told them to deliver the goods within an hour, letting their ability do the talking.
An hour later, he received all the returned articles. After reading through them one by one, he selected ten writers.
These writers actually had decent novel-writing skills, but the main issue with working in this industry was their inability to control outlines and conceptualize long-form novels.
You could give them an outline or even a chapter outline to control the plot direction, but if you let them improvise freely, it would collapse immediately.
To put it bluntly, they lacked the big picture.
The pay Shen Weiyue offered for ghostwriting ranged from fifteen to twenty per thousand words, which was already a very good rate for 2009.
Regardless, it was better than getting nothing at all.
By the time he finished all this, over three hours had passed, and the time was approaching four in the afternoon.
Calculating the time, there were only two or three days left until the National Day holiday. Feng Jiayue, far away in Shenzhen, had been excited for days upon hearing that her beloved Brother Shen was coming over.
"Brother Shen, I really want the next two days to pass quickly. I miss you so much; I wish you would appear in front of me right now."
"Are you that eager? If I were to appear in front of you, what would you do?"
"Uh, well… I'd just be very happy, very joyful. Oh my, I can't describe that feeling, but I just really miss you."
"Wouldn't you applaud enthusiastically and welcome me with open arms?"
"Yes, yes, yes, that's exactly what I meant. My sister and I will applaud for you together and welcome you with open arms."
Feng Jiayue echoed Shen Weiyue's words, genuinely feeling that a top student was quick-witted and spoke so well. She loved being with him.
Shen Weiyue didn't waste words; he found a crotchless style online and sent it over, saying nothing else.
Feng Jiayue understood immediately, blushing as she replied: "Brother Shen, you… why are you so bad?"
After a pause, without waiting for Shen Weiyue to reply, she added: "I'll go buy it tomorrow. When you come, I'll wear it for you."
That one sentence made Shen Weiyue's blood boil. He loved this kind of sensible, non-clingy girl who knew her place.
Feng Jiayue was left weak and flustered by Shen Weiyue's teasing, her mind completely muddled. She told Shen Weiyue and then ran to the Restroom.
Just then, Feng Jiaxin, who had gone out to buy groceries, returned.
"Sister, I'm back."
"Mm, oh, okay… okay…" Her sister's weak voice came from the Restroom, and Feng Jiaxin didn't think much of it.
She put away the groceries, changed her shoes, and went to the computer, where she saw the chat window between Feng Jiayue and Brother Shen.
"Huh, Sister is chatting with Brother Shen. What are they talking about?"
Feng Jiaxin sat down and curiously scrolled up to see what her sister and Brother Shen had been talking about, then pulled up the image.
In that instant, her eyes went wide, and she almost screamed out loud.
"Ah! I… what did I just see? Brother Shen actually looks like this… and he actually likes this kind of pants…"
She immediately closed the image, her little face flushing red as she guiltily looked toward the Restroom.
After a few seconds, seeing that no one came out, she felt an itch of curiosity and opened the image again, this time zooming in to observe it carefully.
"My god, this… this kind of… so raunchy, how could anyone wear this out?"
Feng Jiaxin imagined herself wearing this style; let alone walking outside, she couldn't even stand the thought of it.
Her breathing grew rapid. Hearing the sound of flushing from the Restroom, she hurriedly closed the image and then stood by the window, acting as if nothing had happened, rubbing her face vigorously.
It was burning!
Brother Shen… he is toxic!
