19: Chapter 19 Teacher Liang's Midnight Cry for Help

It was past ten o'clock at night, and there were few pedestrians around.

Under the dim streetlights, Shen Weiyue accompanied Liang Yuting as they waited quietly in the alley; she did not speak, her eyes slightly closed and brows furrowed, as if she were trying her best to recover her energy.

A few minutes later, Liang Yuting let go of the wall she had been leaning against and tried to take a few steps.

"Alright, thank you, Student Shen."

"You're welcome; this is what a student should do."

The two walked toward the residential complex. Liang Yuting moved very slowly, and with his keen eyesight, Shen Weiyue could vaguely see the fine beads of sweat on her forehead.

Judging by her subconscious shivering earlier, Liang Yuting was likely showing signs of an oncoming fever from a cold.

Because during the rising phase of a fever, the body reduces heat loss by constricting the skin, which leads to symptoms like paleness, shivering, and chills.

At this moment, Liang Yuting was likely forcing herself to push through it, and Shen Weiyue remained highly focused, constantly prepared for her to faint.

Sure enough, after walking about ten meters, Liang Yuting's legs suddenly gave way, and she slumped weakly to the side.

Shen Weiyue hurriedly reached out to support her.

"Teacher Liang, you're freezing cold. It's possible you have a fever from a cold; you should really go to the hospital and get it checked out."

"No, no need. I'll just go back, drink some hot water, and take some cold medicine, and I'll be fine."

She remained stubborn and even struggled to stand up.

However, the symptoms of weakness became increasingly apparent, so she had no choice but to say to Shen Weiyue, "Student Shen, I might have to trouble you to see me home."

"Ah, oh, alright. Which building do you live in?" Shen Weiyue felt her grip on his arm, which didn't feel very heavy.

"Building Five, 501."

"I'm in Building Six; it's quite close."

Shen Weiyue supported her firmly, and Liang Yuting used his support to quicken her pace.

When they reached the building, she grabbed the railing and climbed a few steps, but she couldn't even make it halfway up the first flight before she couldn't continue. She had no choice but to offer an apologetic, bitter smile, "I have to trouble you to help me upstairs."

Without a second word, Shen Weiyue supported her and began to walk up.

As it turned out, Liang Yuting was gasping for breath as she climbed, her steps becoming increasingly weak, to the point where she was on the verge of collapsing.

"Teacher Liang, can you not climb anymore?"

"I'm feeling very dizzy; I can't muster any strength at all..."

"It's getting a bit late. How about I carry you up on my back?"

"This..."

Liang Yuting shook her head, feeling embarrassed, and gritted her teeth, saying, "Then you should go home first. I'll rest for a while and then climb up slowly... Ah, you..."

Shen Weiyue couldn't stand her hesitant demeanor, as if someone were going to eat her alive. Besides, this was an old-fashioned stairwell with no security cameras—who would know anyway?

He steeled himself and, not bothering with any more nonsense, scooped her up in a bridal carry, holding Liang Yuting horizontally in front of him, and strode up the stairs.

Liang Yuting was both embarrassed and anxious, but she couldn't bring herself to scream, so she simply closed her eyes to avoid seeing anything.

Shen Weiyue's actions were quite gentlemanly, but given that there was inevitably some intimate contact, he hurried upward as fast as he could.

Liang Yuting was, after all, an adult woman weighing over ninety jin, and after carrying her up one flight of stairs in one go, he was panting heavily.

High school physics taught that going upstairs requires work, let alone doing so while carrying someone.

Shen Weiyue felt it becoming difficult, so he shifted Liang Yuting higher up. Since she was already weak all over and her silk dress was incredibly slippery, making it hard to get a good grip, she nearly slipped out of his arms.

Shen Weiyue broke out in a cold sweat, and without thinking twice, he quickly grabbed the backs of her knees to secure her.

Liang Yuting was already too embarrassed to speak.

Shen Weiyue slowed his pace and walked up step by step, firmly. She really did have a fever from a cold; her body was already burning up.

The faint fragrance wafting from her invigorated Shen Weiyue, strengthening his resolve and adding force to his grip.

Just like that, he would adjust her position every half-flight. Liang Yuting, pressed against him, was completely dumbfounded; her mind was a total blank, and she had lost the ability to think.

Having finally reached the door, Shen Weiyue asked, "Teacher Liang, where are your keys?"

"In my bag." Liang Yuting's voice was as soft as a mosquito's buzzing, and she opened her eyes.

Shen Weiyue switched to holding her upright, letting her lean against him, and then went to look for the keys.

As he opened the bag, a packet of things suddenly fell out, and Liang Yuting couldn't help but let out a soft exclamation.

Shen Weiyue subconsciously picked it up and held it in his hand, then immediately realized what it was.

It was just a normal necessity; why make such a fuss?

He quickly found the keys, unlocked the door, and supported Liang Yuting as he brought her inside, helping her lean against the sofa.

"Teacher Liang, do you have a thermometer at home? Where is the cold medicine?"

"There's a small medicine box under the TV cabinet; everything is in there."

Liang Yuting lay weakly on the sofa, yet even in this state, she maintained an elegant posture, using a throw pillow to cover herself.

Shen Weiyue quickly found the medicine box, took out a thermometer, and had her hold it in place. Then, he went to pour a cup of water, checking the expiration dates of the medicine while waiting for the temperature reading.

A few minutes later, the temperature reading came out. 38.3℃. She did indeed have a fever.

"This amantadine hydrochloride is quite potent; take one pill at a time."

He helped her sit up and fed her the medicine.

Feeling much safer now that she was home and had taken the medicine, Liang Yuting said to Shen Weiyue, "Student Shen, you should go back first. You have to get up early for class tomorrow."

It was not a good thing for a man and a woman to be alone in the same room in the middle of the night.

Shen Weiyue understood her concerns, so he tore off a piece of paper and wrote down a phone number, "Teacher Liang, this is my phone number. If there is an emergency, please call me."

With that, he left decisively.

Liang Yuting heard the sound of the door lock clicking shut and let out a long sigh of relief.

After all, he was a hot-blooded young man; she didn't dare to continue being alone with him. Human nature could not withstand the test.

After lying on the sofa for a while, she felt slightly better, so she actually went to take a shower first before changing into pajamas and going to her bedroom to sleep.

She didn't know how much time had passed. Liang Yuting felt groggy, her mouth dry, and her head felt incredibly heavy—so much so that she didn't even have the strength to prop herself up on the bed.

It was over. Her remaining consciousness told her that she had a high fever.

She didn't even need to take her temperature to guess it was at least over 39 degrees.

In this state, let alone getting up for class tomorrow morning, she might just end up being sent away, straight to the graveyard of life.

At this moment, Liang Yuting could no longer care about anything else. She struggled to find her phone and called Shen Weiyue without hesitation.

As for why she called him? She didn't know either.

Liang Yuting's hometown was not in Lingshan County, but rather closer to the direction of Yuzhou; she actually had no relatives in this county.

After graduating from university, she passed the exam for a teaching position at Lingshan County No. 1 Middle School, and had only been working here for a little over three years.

Subconsciously, she might have felt that Shen Weiyue was more reliable.

After all, during the time she had been tutoring him in English, and just now when he walked her home, he had behaved with impeccable manners and had not crossed any lines.

And so, Shen Weiyue was woken up by the phone. He checked the time; it was past two in the morning.

"Hello?"

"Student Shen, it's Teacher Liang. I... could you take me to the hospital..."

Hearing her weak, listless voice, Shen Weiyue hurriedly said, "Alright, I'm coming right away... Can you still get up to open the door?"

"I can't... In the door frame gap, there... there is a key. Please look for it..." After saying this, there was no more sound on the phone.

Shen Weiyue flipped out of bed and dashed out the door.
