6: Chapter 6 You're covered in sweat and stink!
Zhao Qingyan resigned herself to her fate.
Since her principal father was unwilling to interfere with the homeroom teacher's decision, she could only hold her nose and accept this deskmate.
She had never thought of intentionally doing poorly on exams to force them to change their minds.
After all, she had been a straight-A student since childhood, and she couldn't just start performing poorly.
Zhao Qingyan's proud and competitive nature made it impossible for her to do such a thing; even coming in second was unacceptable to her.
Besides, even if she did poorly on an exam, it wouldn't matter. After all, neither her homeroom teacher, Old Demon Han, nor her principal father, Principal Zhao Weiming, had ever worried about her College Entrance Exam from the very beginning.
Why?
Because there was one thing her classmates weren't very clear on: Zhao Qingyan was incredibly amazing at the Math Olympiad. Not only did she qualify for a 20-point bonus on the College Entrance Exam, but she had also already passed the preliminary review for early admission to Tsinghua and Peking Universities.
She had basically secured her early admission spot.
This was also the source of Han Changming's confidence in using her as the Five Fingers Mountain during these final hundred days.
Since you're guaranteed to get into Tsinghua and Peking Universities anyway, why not help suppress the monkey?
Oh well, she would just listen to her father and try to get along with an idiot.
Zhao Qingyan opened her diary and, on March 2, 2009, wrote down a sentence:
"That detestable old man assigned me a donkey as a deskmate. Although he doesn't look bad, I'm still very angry..."
Thinking of Shen Weiyue's promise that he would respect her even more than his own mother, she added another line at the end:
"Fortunately, this Stupid Donkey knows his place."
After jotting down a few quick notes in her diary, Zhao Qingyan began to read books that were not high school textbooks in earnest.
If Shen Weiyue were here, he would once again lament that the gap between humans is wider than that between humans and dogs.
This top student was actually reading advanced Olympiad math, the kind where even looking at the answers would be a struggle for him.
...
The next day.
Shen Weiyue ran into Liang Yuting again on his way out.
He hadn't run into her after evening self-study yesterday, so that English essay hadn't been handed in, which now became their topic of conversation.
Liang Yuting was still very professional in her own field.
Shen Weiyue's short essay eased the awkwardness of being alone together, so she graded it as they walked, and her impression of him improved quite a bit.
"Student Shen Weiyue, I thought you were joking yesterday. I didn't expect you to really want me to tutor you."
"Of course, Teacher Liang. I've decided to stop drifting aimlessly. I said I would get into Jianghai University, and I absolutely will. That is my only goal right now."
"That's ambitious. But Jianghai University isn't easy to get into. Why are you so set on going there?"
"Someone there is calling to me."
"What?"
Liang Yuting couldn't help but stop, sizing up Shen Weiyue before bursting into laughter. "Do you watch Qiong Yao dramas too?"
"I never said it was a girl."
"Oh, a guy?"
"A girl."
...
Liang Yuting was almost choked up by this student who refused to play by the rules. Seeing that they had reached the end of the alley, she quickened her pace to put some distance between herself and Shen Weiyue, waving the essay in her hand.
"Alright, for the sake of Student Shen Weiyue's 'Call of Duty,' I will join you in fighting for these hundred days to see what kind of results you can achieve in the end."
"Thank you, Teacher Liang."
"No need to thank me again, I already said so yesterday. Hurry up, eat some breakfast, and go to class."
The two went their separate ways. Liang Yuting's figure from behind was truly beautiful.
...
After class started today, Shen Weiyue noticed that Zhao Qingyan wasn't as resistant to him as yesterday, and she had truly stepped into her role as a supervisor.
If he zoned out, she would poke him with her pen.
If he got drowsy, she would not only poke him but also make a note of it in her little notebook.
By the end of the morning classes, three of his offenses had already been listed.
"Shen Weiyue, it's only been one morning and you've already dozed off three times. I'm going to report you to Teacher Han in a moment."
"Uh, the first step is always the hardest. I'll adjust as quickly as possible."
"Is that so? How come I've heard that for some people, not only is the beginning hard, but the middle is also hard, and the end is even harder?"
Zhao Qingyan suddenly dropped this line, completely throwing Shen Weiyue off.
"You're surprisingly humorous. That joke was really cold."
Shen Weiyue didn't want to say much to someone who didn't know how to carry a conversation. This School Beauty had an outstanding IQ, but she seemed to have a rather low EQ.
No wonder she was aloof and unsociable.
When Director Shen was young, he was unsociable because he didn't like to talk and didn't want to fit in. Now it seemed she was unsociable because she didn't know how to talk and simply couldn't fit in.
No wonder in his past life, Zhao Qingyan went all the way to get her PhD, was selected for the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, remained unmarried, lived in isolation, and reportedly even suffered from depression.
So that was where the problem lay.
Shen Weiyue gave her a sympathetic look. What a pity.
As expected, God is fair. He had wondered how such a perfect person could exist; now he felt much more balanced.
"Shen Weiyue, what's with that expression?" Zhao Qingyan felt uncomfortable under his gaze.
"Class Monitor, I think if you try to interact with society more and change the way you speak, you might actually make some friends," Shen Weiyue suggested very seriously.
"None of your business! Are you saying I'm unsociable? You're the one who's unsociable, they even call you Cultural Reference..."
"Heh, the pot calling the kettle black, why bother?"
Shen Weiyue shook his head and laughed, calling out to his bad influence of a friend, "Taozi, it's noon. Shall we eat?"
"Let's go, Yue-san! Let's go together!"
Ye Lingtao, acting like a Japanese guy, immediately responded.
Shen Weiyue smiled slightly at Zhao Qingyan and then happily left the classroom.
His expression seemed to say:
See, I have friends. As long as I want to, I can fit in.
But you, my friend, you are the one who is truly isolated.
This time, Zhao Qingyan's defenses were truly broken.
Damn that Shen Weiyue!
Stupid Donkey!
...
The first class in the afternoon was physical education.
Although it was rare, Lingshan No. 1 High School's third-year students still maintained a schedule of two PE classes a week.
Today's PE class consisted of running two laps around the soccer field, followed by free time.
After running the eight hundred meters, the girls collapsed onto the synthetic track, gasping for breath, while the boys quickly took over the court to play basketball.
Director Shen decided he could be more sociable, so he and Ye Lingtao took the initiative to join the group activity.
The muscle memory he brought back from his rebirth was incredibly fierce. His classmates were astonished that there was such a powerhouse in their class; indeed, Cultural Reference, that scheming bastard, was hiding his strength deep.
With his top-tier basketball skills and the charisma he had developed over many years, Director Shen quickly bonded with the boys. Zhao Qingyan caught sight of this by chance, and she was so envious she could cry.
So it wasn't that he couldn't; he just hadn't wanted to before.
In contrast, not only can I not do it, I don't even have anyone.
Ah, I'm so useless. I'm the one who is socially incompetent.
As soon as this thought arose, Zhao Qingyan bit the tip of her tongue to quickly suppress it, then turned her gaze away with a cold face and a frown.
Bah, what 'Gentleman Sword' Cultural Reference.
Don't even think about messing with my state of mind!
But while she could suppress her thoughts, her irritation was hard to dispel.
When they returned to the classroom and class began, just as Shen Weiyue sat down, Zhao Qingyan said coldly:
"I told you not to smell like sweat. You're covered in sweat, it stinks!"
"Huh?" Director Shen was dumbfounded. "Sorry, I forgot. Next PE class, I'll bring a change of clothes."
"Hmph, considering your good attitude in admitting your mistake, I won't write it down in the notebook this time."
Having won a round, Zhao Qingyan's icy demeanor melted into a brief smile.
Shen Weiyue couldn't help but daze out for a moment.
Damn it, you couldn't blame Director Shen for zoning out; it was all because the class monitor was such a great beauty.
"What are you looking at? I told you not to stare at me like an idiot. I'm writing you down!"
Nickname added another charge against Cultural Reference.
