58: Chapter 58 The Art of Compromise

In the large office of the subject teachers.

The teachers were all silent. After carefully mulling over Shen Weiyue's words, they all realized that this kid was balancing things perfectly.

He both accommodated the school and teachers' desperate desire for good results, and left himself a way out instead of going all-in.

It gave everyone the feeling that listening to him speak was like listening to a speech that sounded incredibly profound but actually said nothing at all.

Everyone estimated the cutoff score for Qingbei University to be 620 points.

With 622 points, there wasn't actually much room for choice. If he accepted major adjustment and went for nursing, which had the lowest cutoff score, he would be a shoo-in.

But if he insisted on fighting for a suitable major, this score would likely end up as a futile effort.

A young teacher couldn't help but advise,

"Student Shen Weiyue, actually, I think the school is more important than the major. A different platform means access to different resources. I suggest you accept major adjustment..."

Shen Weiyue shook his head and said with a calm look, "That won't do. I won't gamble with my life."

He looked at Han Changming and asked, "Teacher Han, you support me, right?"

"Haha, of course. You've already given me a massive surprise. I support your own choice," Old Demon Han replied with a smile.

Shen Weiyue nodded, then looked at Liang Yuting and asked again, "Teacher Liang, you sacrificed yourself for my grades. If I choose this, will you be angry?"

What did he mean by sacrificing herself? What nonsense!

Liang Yuting avoided his burning gaze and said softly, "No."

"Then it's settled. Thank you for your concern, teachers. I've decided to put Qingbei University as my first choice, but I won't accept major adjustment. Thank you, everyone."

Shen Weiyue firmly stated his stance. Since Yuan Tianze had already expressed that he would leave everything to the teachers' arrangements, next was how Ning Xi would choose.

Seven or eight pairs of eyes stared at her, and the little girl immediately panicked.

Of course, she could see the expectation in the teachers' eyes, but she also felt that what Shen Weiyue had just said made a lot of sense.

What's more, she had her own little unspoken calculations in her heart.

"I... I think Shen Weiyue's approach is very good. I'll do the same."

Another silence fell over the office.

After a moment, Han Changming waved his hand and said, caught between tears and laughter, "Alright, you kids have grown up. It's right to have your own ideas. Go on back, double-check your information carefully, and don't fill it out wrong."

The three turned and left.

As Shen Weiyue left, he cast another glance at Liang Yuting. She kept her head down, looking at her toes, refusing to meet his eyes.

Back in the classroom, Zhao Qingyan had long since grown impatient waiting.

"Hurry up and tell me, how did you decide to fill it out?"

Shen Weiyue was pressed before he could even sit down, so he shrugged and said, "I chose a compromise. Choice A is Qingbei University, but without accepting adjustment."

"Oh, that's good." Zhao Qingyan breathed a sigh of relief, then asked, "Then what major do you plan to choose?"

"I don't know. Qingbei University was never in my plans for college. I don't even know what majors they offer, so I can only flip through the book now."

Shen Weiyue picked up a College Entrance Exam Guide, flipped directly to the page for Qingbei University, and shamelessly placed it in front of Zhao Qingyan, saying like a rogue:

"Fox, you started this, so you help me choose."

"So stupid, you annoying Stupid Donkey."

Zhao Qingyan muttered, but she was very happy in her heart, so she began to analyze the majors seriously.

Shen Weiyue turned his head and saw Ning Xi looking at the scenery with nothing to do, so he asked in confusion, "Hey, Sister Xi, don't you need to look into your choices?"

"I've told you a thousand times, don't call me Sister Xi. I'm a few months younger than you, okay?" Ning Xi complained, dissatisfied. "I'm too lazy to choose. Once Qingyan finishes choosing for you, I'll just copy it."

"No way!" Zhao Qingyan suddenly turned her head and said seriously, "If you choose the same ones, you'll clash. If a major only recruits one person, someone will fail to get in."

"Ah? But I don't know anything about them either. How about you recommend some for me?" Ning Xi said foolishly.

"You... both of you are idiots." Zhao Qingyan was in a rare good mood, so she agreed.

She focused intently on researching the majors at Qingbei University, while Shen Weiyue and Ning Xi each researched their subsequent parallel choices.

Half an hour later.

Zhao Qingyan waved her small hand. "Done!"

Shen Weiyue and Ning Xi leaned in to look. She had drawn many circles in the book. According to this year's application model in Sichuan Province, one could choose six majors per school.

"Shen the Donkey, you apply for this one, this one, and this one..."

"Ning Xi, yours are these. You two have some overlap, but they are all majors that recruit more than two people."

Shen Weiyue took the guide and looked at it, then filled them in as his first choice without a second thought.

Zhao Qingyan felt even more joyful in her heart, unable to resist stealing glances out of the corner of her eye.

When she saw Shen Weiyue fill in Jianghai University as his Choice B, she really wanted to stop him and have him change it to Renmin University of China, but considering this stubborn donkey had already compromised once, she ultimately decided it was best not to say anything more.

Ning Xi was also stealing glances.

She pretended to stand up and stretch, taking a peek to see that Shen Weiyue's Choice B was indeed Jianghai University, and then sat back down with a peaceful mind.

As long as it was Jianghai University, it was fine. She didn't dare ask about his major anymore. If she said any more, even an idiot would know what she was thinking, and that would be incredibly embarrassing.

Ning Xi rubbed her burning face and focused on filling out her choices.

Soon, both of them finished filling out their choices. Shen Weiyue extended an invitation, "Let's go, let's get cold pot fish together. I have some things to do after we eat."

Zhao Qingyan and Ning Xi readily agreed.

As they were about to head out, Shen Weiyue waved to Ye Lingtao. The guy trotted over and asked, "Master Shen, what are your orders?"

"My treat for lunch, we're having cold pot fish. Want to go?"

"Sure..." Ye Lingtao blurted out, but seeing Zhao Qingyan staring coldly at him from behind Shen Weiyue, he quickly asked, "Ah, who else is going?"

"Just Zhao Qingyan and Ning Xi."

"Oh my God, I suddenly remembered I have something to do. What bad timing. You owe me this meal, you can treat me later."

Ye Lingtao waved his hands frantically and backed away. Shen Weiyue frowned, completely baffled.

"Japanese Guy, you're the one who is busy, so don't say I didn't invite you. I'll catch up with you after I get back from Shenzhen."

Shen Weiyue cursed speechlessly, then walked out the door without looking back.

Ning Xi smiled and nodded to Ye Lingtao, happily following behind.

Zhao Qingyan also gave him a look that said 'you know what's good for you', and walked out of the classroom gracefully, her hands behind her back and her ponytail swaying.

Ye Lingtao leaned on the railing, watching the three figures disappear down the stairwell, feeling that today's life was just as bitter.

His former bottom-of-the-class trash brother, Cultural Reference, had now turned his fortunes around in one fell swoop, becoming a hot commodity like a dragon soaring in the sky.

Look at this son of a bitch laughing heartily as he walked out the door, with the School Beauty on his left and a sweet, obedient girl on his right. Moreover, Ning Xi clearly had feelings for him, which she couldn't even hide.

He just couldn't understand. Clearly, the advantage had been on his side, so how did the situation completely reverse in just three months?

What kind of holy shit was this?

"You beast... Shen Weiyue, you beast who values girls over friends..."

Ye Lingtao returned to his seat muttering curses, continuing to filter his choices with tears in his eyes. Since his score wasn't high enough, he naturally had to be extremely cautious in choosing a school.

Fortunately, his score this time was passable, which gave him some comfort.

Sigh, he only hoped that when Master Shen struck it rich, he wouldn't forget his old friend.
