29: Chapter 29 The Stubborn but Soft-Hearted Zhao Fox

"Which window did you get this dish from? It's really delicious..."

"Shut up. We don't talk while eating or sleeping."

Zhao Qingyan ate with small, slow bites, looking incredibly elegant.

She could even meticulously pick out every single peppercorn from the dish and neatly pile them together.

With the meat given by Zhao the Fox in his mouth, Shen Weiyue thought about it and realized that indeed, no canteen cafeteria food could achieve this flavor. Especially that rich, oily sheen—it didn't look like typical canteen fare at all.

He guessed that this must be Zhao Qingyan's private meal, so he didn't ask any more questions and ate quickly.

"Ahem, cough, cough..."

Perhaps he had eaten too quickly, as he started choking, his eyes rolling back.

Zhao Qingyan watched this scene in confusion and couldn't help but scold: "Are you a pig reincarnated? Why are you eating so fast?"

"It's too delicious. I've never eaten such good food in the cafeteria before." Shen Weiyue took a sip of tomato egg drop soup, looking completely satisfied.

"Take it, it's all yours. I'm not eating anymore." Zhao Qingyan said with disdain, pulling a pack of tissues from her pocket and elegantly wiping her mouth.

"Are you eating cat food? That's so little, you'll be hungry in the afternoon."

"Can't I be on a diet?"

Shen Weiyue quickly looked her over and asked in confusion: "Where are you fat? You look quite well-proportioned..."

"Shut up. Are you eating it or not? If not, I'm throwing it away." Zhao Qingyan glared at him unkindly.

"Eating! Don't move it." Shen Weiyue hurriedly pressed down on the tray with one hand and actually started picking food from her plate just like that.

The onlookers were even more dumbfounded. What kind of magic had Cultural Reference used to make this world become so strange?

Zhao Qingyan sat there quietly, watching helplessly as Shen Weiyue wiped her tray clean, thinking that she probably couldn't call him Shen the Donkey anymore.

She should call him Shen the Pig instead!

...

After finishing the meal, just as Shen Weiyue was about to wander off to the small grove, Zhao Qingyan checked the time.

"Let's go."

"Where to?"

"To the classroom!"

"What for? Class hasn't started yet. I need to find a place to rest..."

"Don't the mosquitoes bite you when you sleep in the Quiet Garden?"

Shen Weiyue paused, then instinctively said: "Aha! So you were stalking me? Don't deny it, otherwise how would you know I sleep over there?"

"I just happened to see you when I walked by. You have so much nonsense to say; if you're not sleepy, then go back and do some problems!"

"I'm sleepy, I'm sleepy. I have absolutely no energy left. Let me sleep for a while."

Shen Weiyue's expression changed, and without another word, he headed toward the classroom.

Upon reaching their seats, as soon as Zhao Qingyan went in, he immediately slumped onto his desk and began his nap.

Entering the final sprint stage of the College Entrance Exam, every day involved huge mental exhaustion. There was no need to brew any sleepiness; he could fall asleep just by closing his eyes.

Shen Weiyue falling asleep in one second amazed Zhao Qingyan.

After entering May, the weather in Sichuan Province had started to heat up. There was no air conditioning in the classroom, relying entirely on the two large ceiling fans overhead.

The old ceiling fans didn't have much power to begin with, and since Shen Weiyue and Zhao Qingyan's seats were in the first row on the front left, they barely got any cool air at all.

Normally, seats in the class were rotated every week. Many people liked the seats directly under the ceiling fans, but Zhao Qingyan and Shen Weiyue were two outliers.

One of them liked breathing the fresh air from outside the window, and the other was always worried that a ceiling fan would fall and chop off his head. Thus, they tacitly accepted the status quo, and with Old Demon Han's silent approval, their seating arrangement remained rock solid.

But if you aren't shedding blood, you're shedding sweat.

As Shen Weiyue slept, he got hotter and hotter, and sweat from his forehead began to stream down his cheeks.

Zhao Qingyan soon noticed this. After hesitating for a moment, she picked up a rolled-up book to use as a fan and started fanning herself.

However, she fanned with a bit too much force, accidentally sharing some of the breeze with Shen Weiyue. Once this donkey felt the long-lost coolness, his brow smoothed out, and he actually looked comfortable.

"You stupid donkey, you're certainly enjoying yourself..."

Zhao Qingyan cursed under her breath, but ultimately didn't stop, letting this Shen the Donkey have a comfortable nap.

So, when the class bell rang, Shen Weiyue opened his eyes and saw her just stopping, rubbing her sore wrist.

"Fox, this spot you chose is really nice. With the window open today, there was actually a natural breeze blowing in the whole time. It wasn't hot at all while sleeping."

Zhao Qingyan's eyelid twitched; she really wanted to hit him.

"Huh, why do you have sweat on your forehead? Didn't you feel the breeze?"

"I don't talk to donkeys."

Zhao the Fox glared at him and picked up the supervisor's special inkless ballpoint pen.

Shen Weiyue tensed up all over and shut his mouth to attend class.

The Chinese teacher sauntered in, looking at the class with a smile, and said: "Yesterday we talked about composition. This lesson we will continue and finish discussing the compositions. First, I'd like to invite two students to come up and read their essays."

"The first piece is Ning Xi's essay, which scored 52 points. Listen carefully and learn."

The Chinese essay for Mock Exam 2 was a prompt-based writing assignment with the theme of "Attachment."

Ning Xi went up to the stage with a flushed little face, reading her essay in a low voice. Even Shen Weiyue, sitting in the first row, couldn't hear what she was reading.

The Chinese teacher had to remind her several times before the little girl buried her head in her chest and raised her volume as if resigning herself to fate.

After listening to a section, everyone finally understood why she was blushing.

The attachment this girl wrote about was romantic attachment, talking about how she always had a blurry figure in her dreams, invisibly summoning her to move closer to him...

This was just like reading a love letter in public.

The class suddenly became noisy, with the boys winking and whispering to each other.

"Quiet! I want you to listen to the wording and phrasing, to appreciate this kind of sincere writing style, not to discuss random nonsense."

The Chinese teacher's eyebrows shot up, and everyone quieted down, but their gazes toward Ning Xi became increasingly meaningful.

Ning Xi finished reading quickly and hurried back to her seat to hide her head, like an ostrich burying itself in the sand.

"You all, don't associate everything with romance. Does that figure in the dream have to be a boy? It could also be the embodiment of an ideal, an attachment to a bright future. You must look at it using personification; this is a very sophisticated writing technique..."

After the Chinese teacher gave his commentary and scolded the cheeky brats in the class for being too silly and naive, he called the second person to the stage.

"The second piece is Shen Weiyue's essay. The conceptualization is profound and far-reaching, scoring 57 points. This is an incredibly impressive score."

Everyone was shocked. This guy got 136 in Chinese, and he only had 3 points deducted from his essay? Terrifying.

"May the common people all be well-fed and warm, I will not shirk from hardship to leave the mountain forest..."

Shen Weiyue walked onto the stage, and surprisingly, without taking his test paper, he just started speaking.

Even the Chinese teacher was stunned. Was he going to recite the whole thing from memory?

Zhao Qingyan's eyes lit up. At this moment, Shen Weiyue, with one hand in his pocket, looked confident and vibrant, as if bathed in starlight, glowing all over.

Ye Lingtao looked up, tears of envy welling up in his eyes.

With this pose, that bastard Shen Weiyue must be about to show off.

Is being able to write an essay that amazing?
