21: Chapter 21 Teacher Liang, isn't this giving you too much private tutoring?
Who is Director Shen?
He was someone who had managed to become a deputy bureau chief by the age of thirty-four or thirty-five in his previous life. Although it was in a suburban county of the provincial capital, he was still a shrewd operator.
Once she entered into Director Shen's conversational rhythm, Liang Yuting became nothing more than a little girl.
Guided by him through the topics, she felt that whatever they talked about clicked perfectly; there was unspoken understanding everywhere, and every interaction felt compatible.
Liang Yuting couldn't even count how many times she had laughed during the short time they waited for the IV drip to finish.
"You two, even if you're flirting, you need to pay attention to the IV. Your bottle has been empty for so long, why didn't you call someone?"
The nurse walked in, rolled her eyes speechlessly, and pointed at the IV needle in Liang Yuting's arm, scolding them.
The two of them looked closely and saw that there was already some blood backflowing into the tube.
Liang Yuting blushed in embarrassment, then glared at Shen Weiyue and handed her hand to the nurse: "I'm sorry, please pull it out gently. I'm afraid of pain."
The nurse didn't say a word and whipped the needle out in a flash. Liang Yuting let out a loud cry of pain.
"Good grief, it's a good thing you were unconscious when you arrived, otherwise, I don't know how loud you would have screamed when it was inserted."
The nurse muttered, signaling for the two of them to hurry up and leave the hospital.
The emergency department doesn't house idlers.
Liang Yuting awkwardly got off the hospital bed, pressing one hand against the spot where the needle had been, only to realize she didn't seem to have her shoes.
"???"
"..."
Shen Weiyue spread his hands and laughed dryly: "We left in such a hurry, I forgot them."
"Then what do we do?" Liang Yuting panicked, "We can't just walk back barefoot, can we?"
"At this hour, the shops aren't open, and the little store inside the hospital should be closed too. We won't be able to buy any..."
Shen Weiyue stood up to look at the little store outside; indeed, the lights were out and it was closed.
"If you don't mind, I'll carry you on my back. We'll hail a taxi after we get out, and then I'll carry you up the stairs once we arrive."
Liang Yuting was silent for a moment, thinking that this was the only way.
She looked at the wall and nodded.
Shen Weiyue stood up and squatted down with his back to her: "Come on, it's time to act as an ox or a horse to repay your great kindness."
"Is that how you're supposed to use the phrase 'act as an ox or a horse'? You smell like sweat... ah..."
Liang Yuting was complaining while lying on his back, but she suddenly gasped and then fell completely silent.
Oh, you Shen Weiyue, is this what a hunting moment looks like when you're fully awake?
"Hold on tight, don't slide down."
Shen Weiyue walked steadily outside, and the nurse even cast an envious glance at them.
When they reached the outside of the hospital, a taxi was snatched up by someone else right in front of them, leaving Liang Yuting feeling somewhat helpless.
"There are plenty of cars outside the hospital, let's wait a bit longer, another one will come soon." Shen Weiyue comforted her, while unobtrusively hoisting her up a bit.
Liang Yuting accepted his point and hummed in response.
But their estimation was too optimistic. It was around four in the morning, and there were very few taxi drivers around.
They waited for nearly ten more minutes. During this time, Liang Yuting slid down no less than five times, and Shen Weiyue laboriously hoisted her back up five times, before an empty cab finally arrived.
The moment they got into the car, both of them let out a long sigh of relief simultaneously. Liang Yuting saw Shen Weiyue rubbing his arm and asked in surprise:
"I just remembered, where is your bandage? Didn't you sprain your hand?"
"It healed a long time ago. Your reaction time is really slow."
"Oh, am I very heavy? Seeing you rub your arm..."
"Not heavy at all. For this height and this weight, it's just about right... Driver, go to Jianshe Road."
The taxi drove quickly; the distance that would take over twenty minutes on foot was covered in just a few minutes.
Shen Weiyue paid the fare and squatted down again.
Liang Yuting resignedly climbed onto his back. The first time was awkward, but the second time was familiar, and she felt her psychological burden had lessened significantly.
After they got upstairs this time, she immediately jumped down and stepped into her slippers, full of energy.
Liang Yuting took out money and gave it to Shen Weiyue, then thanked him: "Thank you, Student Shen. You should hurry back and get some sleep."
Shen Weiyue was indeed sleepy as hell, so he turned around and left.
Looking at the time, it was already past four.
"..."
Two hours later.
Shen Weiyue was groggily woken up by his alarm clock. He headed out to wash up with dark circles under his eyes, and his younger roommate, with whom he shared the apartment, was shocked once again:
"Brother Yue, take it easy. Don't waste your youth..."
"You don't know jack."
Shen Weiyue snapped back in annoyance, then washed his face and hair and left on time.
He arrived at the classroom.
Morning study began with everyone chanting, and that buzzing sound made him even sleepier, so Zhao Qingyan was stabbing her pen so hard it was sparking.
"Shen Weiyue, did you go steal a cow last night?"
"No, I'm just very sleepy."
"Then you went to play games online all night again?"
"I really didn't this time."
Shen Weiyue pinched his thigh hard, but it didn't seem to help much, so he said to Zhao Qingyan: "Zhao the Fox, can I sleep for a while? Please keep an eye out for the teacher for me. If Old Demon Han comes, poke me awake in advance. I really am too tired from being up all night."
Zhao Qingyan wanted to refuse, but seeing his haggard and exhausted appearance, she didn't know why, but her heart softened.
Not answering meant tacit consent.
Shen Weiyue rested his chin on both hands and pretended to read, but in reality, he fell asleep.
He didn't know how much time had passed before he was knocked awake from his slumber by Old Demon Han.
"Shen Weiyue, sleeping in class again? You'll stand for the rest of morning study!"
Shen Weiyue stood up helplessly. After Old Demon Han walked away, he said resentfully to Zhao Qingyan: "Zhao the Fox, why didn't you warn me?"
"I did warn you. You were sleeping like a pig; I couldn't wake you up no matter what." Zhao Qingyan rolled her eyes and showed him the 2B pencil she had snapped.
Shen Weiyue was extremely embarrassed.
He managed to survive morning study, and the first two periods were English class.
Shen Weiyue thought that since Liang Yuting had been sick last night, she would probably switch classes and not come today, but he didn't expect her to insist on coming to the classroom.
"Students, use these two periods to study on your own."
Liang Yuting announced the class format and sat down at the podium.
As soon as Shen Weiyue's butt touched the stool, drowsiness came crashing down on him, so it wasn't long before he slumped over onto his English book and fell fast asleep.
Zhao Qingyan was shocked.
You Shen the Donkey, are you really being this blatant now?
She frantically poked Shen Weiyue's butt, but this guy's soul had already drifted away; there was no way to wake him up.
Everyone noticed this scene, and when Liang Yuting looked over, they were all waiting to see the show.
The result was completely unexpected.
Liang Yuting just glanced at Shen Weiyue nonchalantly and didn't look again, not even asking a single question.
What's going on?
Has Teacher Liang given up on treating Shen Weiyue?
Zhao Qingyan frowned, feeling that things weren't simple. Hadn't this guy just asked Teacher Liang to tutor him in English?
However, since Liang Yuting didn't ask, she didn't continue trying to wake Shen Weiyue up.
A moment later, a boy in the back row followed suit and slept on the desk, only to be awakened by a chalk piece accurately guided by Liang Yuting.
Everyone then realized that this was differential treatment.
"Teacher Liang, why can Shen Weiyue sleep, but I can't?" the boy asked, very dissatisfied.
"There is no why. If you write one English composition every day in addition to your studies, you can sleep in my class whenever you want from now on," Liang Yuting answered indifferently.
Everyone gasped, unable to help but complain inwardly.
Damn it, to be able to provide private tutoring to this extent, isn't that going too far?
A strange atmosphere permeated the classroom.
