119: Invisible enemy!

Lord Su Jin looked at the mechs dominating the battlefield and couldn't help but marvel.

The destructive power displayed by these pure technological creations in group combat was indeed astonishing.

However, the battlefield changed in an instant.

Just as the Yong City soldiers' morale was greatly boosted and they were preparing for a full-scale counterattack, the Pathfinder mech leading the charge, a close-combat type, suddenly stiffened.

It stood motionless like a puppet from which the soul had been drawn.

Immediately after, like a chain reaction, three or four more Pathfinder mechs also became incapacitated after emitting a piercing electrical sound.

"Report! K-03, K-07, K-11 mechs have lost control! Pilots are unresponsive!" Reports continuously sounded in the communication channel.

General Zhou Yong's face darkened.

The Yong City soldiers on the battlefield also noticed something was wrong, and their firepower momentarily faltered.

The previously suppressed mutated monsters seemed to sense an opportunity, roaring and attempting to counterattack again.

"It seems to be... some kind of attack targeting the pilots?"

"Ghosts? Psionic entities?"

"General Zhou, do you need help?" Lord Su Jin asked, looking at General Zhou Yong.

Such enemies were indeed a challenge for a purely technology-based force that relied on physical strikes and energy weapons.

The Spirit Pivot Sword Envoys of Infinite City, however, had considerable experience dealing with this type of enemy.

General Zhou Yong waved his hand and smiled, "Lord Su's kindness is appreciated. Dealing with these 'things,' while not our technological specialty, we have our own methods. After all, what kind of strange things haven't we seen on the battlefield?"

He pressed another communication button on the command console: "Purifier squad, it's time for you to stretch your muscles. Coordinates: western engagement zone. Root out those sneaky fellows for me."

"Purifier received, deploying 'Eye of Insight'," a calm female voice responded.

Lord Su Jin heard the commotion and looked towards the rear of the Yong City military camp, seeing several special vehicles rapidly driving out.

A squad of about a hundred soldiers disembarked from the vehicles; their attire was completely different from that of ordinary soldiers.

They wore silver-gray, tight-fitting combat suits covered in strange circuits and small instruments, with barrel-shaped equipment on their backs and odd-looking launchers in their hands.

The muzzles were not for physical ammunition but rather devices resembling focusing lenses.

At the same time, in the rear of the Yong City position, several devices resembling small radars slowly rose, their dish-shaped antennas beginning to rotate, emitting low hums.

Complex light patterns illuminated the surfaces of these devices, and invisible ripples spread towards the battlefield.

"Those are 'Psionic Spectrum Jammers' and 'Phase Detection Arrays'," General Zhou Yong explained.

"They are specifically designed for enemies who like to play hide-and-seek and use energy forms. The former can disrupt their energy stability, and the latter can capture their scattered energy traces, forcing them to materialize."

No sooner had he finished speaking than the air around the stalled Pathfinder mechs in the western section of the battlefield suddenly rippled, like water.

Immediately after, dozens of distorted, blurry, translucent figures appeared in the air!

These figures varied in form; some resembled vengeful spirits, while others looked like strange beasts condensed from energy. They clung to the mechs' exteriors, exuding a chilling aura, constantly drawing something from the mechs' seams and energy nodes.

"It's these things, as expected!" General Zhou Yong snorted.

"Targets materialized! Purifier squad, free fire!"

The hundred-plus Purifier soldiers in special combat suits moved swiftly, the muzzle lenses of their launchers suddenly glowing.

"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!"

Beams of pale golden energy shot from the launchers, accurately hitting the ghostly creatures that had just materialized.

Struck by the beams, the psionic entities let out piercing screams, their bodies rapidly melting like snow under a scorching sun.

They attempted to re-conceal themselves, but under the continuous scanning of the Phase Detection Arrays, they had nowhere to hide.

The Purifier squad's attack efficiency was extremely high; they worked in groups of three, providing cross-cover, their Purifying Beam Rifles seemingly the bane of these invisible entities.

In less than ten minutes, the psionic creatures on the battlefield were completely eradicated.

As the last psionic entity dissolved into smoke, the indicator lights on the stalled Pathfinder mechs relit, and after a system self-check, they slowly began to move.

General Zhou Yong let out a sigh of relief: "It seems the monsters in these Blood Tide Mists have quite a few tricks up their sleeves."

The remaining mutated monsters were quickly cleared out under the combined onslaught of the mechs and regular forces.

Lord Su Jin watched this scene, filled with emotion.

The technological power system was indeed unique; although individual physical qualities were inferior to other transcendent systems, with an endless stream of equipment and targeted weapons, it could often compensate for many shortcomings.

Especially with such established, standardized equipment, given sufficient resources, the speed and scale of troop deployment were far beyond what other systems could match.

The widespread availability of equipment also greatly reduced the demands on individual soldiers' talents; as long as they were adequately trained, they could form a fighting force.

"The power of technology is indeed not to be underestimated," Lord Su Jin said sincerely.

General Zhou Yong chuckled, "Lord Su, you flatter me. They are just small gadgets."

He paused, "This Blood Tide Mist is no ordinary event; there will likely be even more troublesome enemies in the future, so our two sides still need to help each other more."

"Naturally," Lord Su Jin nodded.

Seeing that the battle on Yong City's side had temporarily concluded, Lord Su Jin had no intention of staying long.

After a brief exchange of pleasantries with General Zhou Yong, he took Bai Xiao and departed, returning to the Infinite City camp.

Over the next few days, the Red Soil Plateau front fell into an eerie calm.

Apart from a few waves of monsters attacking the defense line each day, which were easily dealt with by various factions, there were no major battles.

But the oppressive feeling of an impending storm grew stronger and stronger...

...

That evening, as the last rays of the setting sun quietly faded, a breeze carrying the scent of blood swept across the Red Soil Plateau.

Suddenly--

"Woo--woo--woo--!!!"

A series of urgent, piercing alarm sounds, without warning, echoed across the entire Red Soil Plateau front!

The alarm was different from usual, carrying a chilling tremor and an alarmingly high frequency.

Lord Su Jin, who was discussing defenses with Zhui Yun and others in his tent, suddenly stood up, his expression slightly changed.

"This is... the highest level of alarm?" Zhui Yun exclaimed, having never heard such a desperate alarm before.

Inside the Infinite City camp, it instantly erupted into activity, countless figures moving through the flickering firelight, a killing aura permeating the air.

Something big had happened...
