20: The enemy is at the gate! The blood-stained sunset plains
On the edge of the Sunset Plain, at the Goblin Camp.
After several days of integration and the arrival of reinforcements, the camp's size had nearly doubled.
Not only were crude wooden arrow towers added, and the fences reinforced, but shallow moats were also dug around it...
Inside the camp, green-skinned figures scurried, their numbers far exceeding before, making it appear crowded and chaotic.
Five hundred Big Goblins from Greystone Keep occupied the best position in the center of the camp.
They wore relatively complete leather armor, and some squad leaders even wore crude iron armor, wielding heavy iron hammers or axes, forming a stark contrast with the scrawny ordinary Goblins around them.
In the largest tent in the center of the camp, You Bu, Chieftain was fawning over a Big Goblin of unusually large stature with a hideous scar on his face.
"Commander, look, those humans will surely not expect us to have reinforcements! If they dare to come, I guarantee they won't return! By then, their women and children will all be ours!" You Bu, Chieftain rubbed his hands, his small, beady eyes filled with greed.
The Big Goblin, referred to as the Commander, was named Gelu, and he was the Commander sent by Greystone Keep.
He glanced at You Bu, Chieftain, letting out a disdainful snort: "Hmph, just a bunch of bugs that just crawled out of the forest, are they worth you being so nervous? If it weren't for the supervisor's order, I wouldn't bother coming here."
"Yes, yes, yes, Commander is right." You Bu, Chieftain quickly nodded and bowed, but cursed him silently in his heart.
Just then, a shrill horn blast, accompanied by a flurry of shouts, suddenly rang out from the outer perimeter of the camp!
"Enemy attack! Enemy attack! It's humans! So many humans!"
Gelu suddenly stood up, grabbing the giant axe beside him, a sneer appearing on his face: "Oh? They've appeared? Just in time for me to stretch my muscles!"
He strode out of the tent, with You Bu, Chieftain following closely behind.
Looking up, they saw that in the northeast direction of the camp, at the end of the distant horizon, there was first a rolling line of dust. Then, beneath the dust, ink-blot-like shadows rapidly spread and expanded, finally converging into a suffocating black tide!
Then, a well-ordered and murderous human army appeared in the sight of all the Goblins!
At the forefront, huge tower shields formed a moving wall of steel, slowly advancing towards the Goblin Camp. Following closely behind the shield wall was a dense forest of halberds, like thorns, glinting with cold light. Further back were archers with bows drawn, ready to fire.
As they marched, the muffled thud of thousands of boots simultaneously striking the ground, mixed with the subtle friction of armor plates, converged into a silent, iron-blooded aura of killing, heading straight for the Goblin Camp!
And on both flanks of the army, the rising dust almost obscured half the sky. Amidst the rolling dust, the figures of a large group of cavalry could be vaguely seen, their hooves thundering like distant, muffled thunder, rolling in from afar.
All the Goblins who witnessed this scene felt a sense of suffocation. These were definitely not the lightly equipped humans they used to bully at will!
The equipment, aura, and discipline of this army completely surpassed You Bu, Chieftain and Gelu's understanding!
"This... where the hell did these monsters come from..." You Bu, Chieftain's voice trembled slightly, his earlier arrogant boasting to Gelu had long vanished, replaced by a bone-deep chill. He even felt that the iron armor on those human soldiers seemed better than what Greystone Keep's most elite warriors wore!
Gelu's sneer had long since frozen on his face, replaced by an unprecedented seriousness and surprise.
He came from Greystone Keep and had seen some battles, but the cohesion and oppressive feeling displayed by this army far exceeded his expectations.
He subconsciously tightened his grip on the giant axe in his hand, his knuckles turning white. "Hmph, interesting..." He muttered in a low voice, but his voice no longer held its previous contempt; instead, it carried a roused ferocity.
This bone was much harder than he had imagined!
"Prepare to meet the enemy!" Gelu roared, his voice overcoming the camp's din, "Archers! Volley fire! All warriors, pick up your weapons! Hold the camp gate!"
The Goblins moved chaotically, some timid ones even tried to shrink back, only to be kicked to the ground by the Big Goblin overseers, letting out painful wails.
"Fire arrows!" Zhui Yun calmly gave the order.
"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh—!"
Hundreds of arrows, with sharp whistling sounds, tore through the sky like a dark cloud, precisely covering the Goblin front line in front of the camp!
Screams immediately erupted! Many Goblins were shot through the body before they could even react, falling to the ground, twitching. Sparse Goblin archers tried to retaliate, but their range and accuracy were like child's play compared to the Swift Feather Archers, and they were quickly suppressed.
"Shield wall! Advance!" Stone Rock roared.
"Thump! Thump! Thump!"
The Heavy Shield Guards marched with heavy steps, like a moving city wall, steadily advancing, facing the sporadic arrows and javelins shot by the Goblins. Arrows struck their shields with clanging sounds, but could not shake them in the slightest.
"Halberd Warriors! Follow up!" Mu Yang commanded the Halberd Warriors, who followed closely behind the shield wall.
"Shield Reverse Impact!"
"Shield Reverse Impact!" When the shield wall was only a few steps away from the camp fence, Stone Rock roared, and all the Heavy Shield Guards, as if of one mind, exerted their strength simultaneously, slamming forward with a mighty crash!
"Boom!"
The already flimsy wooden fence exploded in response! Countless shattered wood splinters, mixed with immense impact force, violently struck the Goblins behind the fence, instantly tearing apart the Goblins' already fragile defense line!
"Charge in!"
The Tie Jia Bu Bing (Iron Armor Infantry) surged forward like a breached flood, roaring as they poured into the camp's breach, instantly clashing violently with the chaotic Goblin formations!
"For Infinite City!" Mu Yang's halberd swung like the wind, each thrust taking a green-skinned life.
"Kill all these green-skinned bastards!"
"Die, all of you!"
The shouts of battle shook the heavens and the earth, the clang of weapons, screams, and roars intertwined, and blood began to stain the land.
Just then, a series of muffled footsteps and savage roars came from deep within the camp.
"Warriors of Greystone Keep! Crush these bugs!"
Gelu, leading his five hundred Big Goblins, crashed into the battle like a green tide!
These Big Goblins were much stronger than ordinary Goblins; their strength and resilience were a cut above. Wielding heavy weapons, they managed to momentarily halt the charge of the Tie Jia Bu Bing (Iron Armor Infantry) and Halberd Warriors!
Some Tie Jia Bu Bing (Iron Armor Infantry)'s shields were even dented by the immense force, leaving their arms numb!
Su Jin stood on a high vantage point behind, calmly observing the battlefield.
"Huo Jun!"
"Your subordinate is here!"
"Execute the second plan! Pierce through their flank!"
"Yes!" Huo Jun accepted the order, waving his scimitar, "wasteland riders! Follow me—charge!!!"
Three hundred cavalry, like arrows shot from a bow, bypassed the frontal battlefield and charged directly towards the relatively weaker western side of the camp!
