19: Chapter 19 The Greed of the Qi Family
Qi Yin's fingers moved rapidly across the keyboard, precisely entering a series of commands.
She felt no excitement, no hesitation, as if she were simply handling a mundane task.
The fattest target was, of course, Qi Mingyuan. Qi Yin routed the 1.5 billion in his account through dozens of shell company accounts scattered across the globe in a series of complex transfers.
Then, she wiped away every trace left by each transfer, finally funneling the funds into an overseas anonymous account under her control.
The 1.5 billion in funds was cleared from Qi Mingyuan's account.
Next was her dear brother, Qi Ming. With the same operation, she made his 600 million vanish into the sea like a drop of water, disappearing without a trace.
Vicious sister-in-law Wang Hui's 300 million could not be spared either.
Finally, there was the poor 20 million belonging to her dear mother, Lu Yingman. Qi Yin didn't even bother to cover her tracks, simply transferring it away directly.
The entire process was silent and stealthy, leaving only the clicking of the keyboard and the faint hum of the cooling system.
On the screen, only four account interfaces remained, all showing a balance of 0—empty and desolate.
Qi Yin left no stone unturned; she hadn't left them a single cent.
Looking at the 2.42 billion that had instantly appeared in her account, there was not a ripple of emotion in her eyes.
She cleared all operation logs and access traces, exited the system, and shut down the computer.
The bright study plunged into darkness. Qi Yin rose and walked to the window, looking out at the heavy night, feeling incredibly satisfied.
Now, that felt good!
She wasn't dealing with them yet because, right now, it would be letting them off too easily!
With only half a month left before the Apocalypse, the renovation of the shelter was proceeding methodically, and supplies were mostly stocked. Whatever she hadn't thought of, she would just wait to acquire through "zero-dollar shopping" later.
Qi Yin was now focusing on her physical training. Every day, she had to complete the ten-kilometer run and close-quarters combat training prescribed by Chen Quan.
She also conjured scenes of zombie hordes invading during the Apocalypse within her spatial training ground, using realistic special effects to practice the use of firearms, Tang swords, and her Supernatural Ability.
By the end of the day, excluding eating and sleeping, her training time exceeded at least twelve hours.
It was tiring, but fulfilling.
However, such peaceful and stable days lasted only three days.
That afternoon, Wang Hui was shopping at a high-end mall with a few friends. Carrying bags full of items, she walked to the cashier and elegantly handed over her black card.
The cashier took it respectfully with a smile.
After trying three times, the cashier looked at her with a smile: "I am sorry, Ms. Wang, but there are insufficient funds on this card."
Wang Hui's expression shifted slightly, and she switched to another bank card.
The cashier still smiled: "I am sorry, it is still insufficient."
Unable to save face, she forced a bitter smile and said to her friends: "There might be a system error."
Finding an excuse to step aside, she immediately called Qi Ming, her tone frantic and angry: "What is going on with my card? Where is the money? Transfer some over to me quickly! This is so embarrassing."
She had been using the pocket money in her WeChat Pay for the last few days and hadn't touched her bank cards, so she hadn't realized the money inside was gone.
On the other end of the line, Qi Ming's voice was very confused: "There is no money in my account either. I was just about to ask you about it."
The two argued for a few moments over the phone, then suddenly realized something at the same time, and a bone-chilling cold crept up their spines.
Qi Ming immediately called Qi Mingyuan.
Half an hour later, The Qi Family villa was filled with a deathly silence.
Qi Mingyuan rubbed his waist, which hadn't fully healed yet, and put down the phone with a livid expression.
He had just called the bank's customer service, and they confirmed that the 1.5 billion in his account had completely vanished, and all records had been wiped clean.
Qi Ming's 600 million, Wang Hui's 300 million, and even the 20 million in Lu Yingman's hands were all gone!
"It's Qi Yin, it must be that Little Bitch!" Wang Hui screamed, "During this time, she is the only one in our family who has been acting strange."
In the past, Qi Yin would come home every day, but now, she hadn't returned for over twenty days.
She heard her husband say that Qi Yin had sold her shares for 2.5 billion, and she was likely using it for some illegal activities.
Now, she was probably afraid that she had squandered it all, so she had transferred all their family's money away.
Recalling what happened that night, after the fear came extreme anger and greed. Qi Mingyuan suddenly remembered the 2.5 billion in liquid funds that Qi Yin genuinely possessed.
They had absolutely no evidence to prove that Qi Yin had transferred the money from their accounts, but the 2.5 billion in her hands was real.
"We cannot just let this go."
Qi Mingyuan's eyes were bloodshot: "We must make her spit the money back out, with interest."
Immediately, they thought of a plan.
Lu Yingman took out an old jewelry box containing a jade bracelet of very ordinary quality.
"Husband, let's just say this jade bracelet is the only heirloom left by her grandmother. We thought about it and decided we should give it to her, so we will tell her to come back and get it."
Remembering that Qi Yin had blocked all their numbers, Lu Yingman used the housekeeper's phone to call Qi Yin.
When the call came through, Qi Yin listened to Lu Yingman's voice on the other end, feigning gentleness but unable to hide her urgency, and a cold smile tugged at the corner of her lips.
These idiots, it took them three whole days to notice?
Qi Yin certainly knew this was a trap, but she agreed anyway.
She wanted to see what kind of tricks these pieces of trash could come up with.
At dusk, Qi Yin stood outside The Qi Family villa once again, feeling as if a lifetime had passed.
Just after entering, she sensed an oppressive and tense atmosphere inside.
Lu Yingman rushed up and tried to grab her hand, but Qi Yin avoided it nonchalantly.
She gave a sideways glance, pretended not to care, and began to wail with red-rimmed eyes.
"Yin Yin, something terrible has happened. Our family, all of our family's money is gone!"
Qi Yin sneered inwardly. Of course she knew; wasn't the culprit standing right in front of her?
Lu Yingman continued her performance: "How are we supposed to live? Your brother and sister-in-law are about to have a baby, and your father's company needs cash flow."
"We are a family; you cannot just stand by and watch us die. Don't you have 2.5 billion? Take it out to help in the emergency, help the family get through this crisis, okay?"
Qi Yin watched her tearful performance and then swept her gaze over the faces of Qi Mingyuan, Qi Ming, and Wang Hui, which were filled with greed and anxiety, feeling nothing but immense annoyance.
It seemed they had already forgotten the lesson from last time.
In her memories, it seemed that every time there was a conflict in the family, she was the only one who had to make sacrifices.
Every time, Lu Yingman would do this, crying to her about how difficult her life was.
Clearly, Lu Yingman was her grandmother's only daughter, and she was the first-in-line heir to the Lu Group, yet the savings in her account were only 20 million.
Even less than Wang Hui's!
Had Lu Yingman really not thought about these issues all these years? No, she was just playing dumb.
Qi Yin didn't speak and walked over to the living room sofa to sit down.
Wang Hui hurried to pour her a glass of water. When she handed it over, Qi Yin's fingertips touched the side of the cup, almost imperceptibly.
"Ah!"
Wang Hui recoiled abruptly, the cup dropping onto the carpet with a "bang," splashing hot water onto her foot.
However, the water was bone-chillingly cold.
"What is wrong with you?" Qi Ming glared at Wang Hui.
Qi Mingyuan frowned and went to pour a fresh cup of hot coffee himself, placing it on the coffee table in front of Qi Yin.
"Yin Yin, your mother is right. Now, the family..."
Before he could finish, the cup of steaming coffee suddenly froze at a speed visible to the naked eye, and a thin layer of ice crystals even formed on the surface.
Qi Mingyuan's words stuck in his throat, and his eyes widened in shock.
