40: Chapter 40 Threat

Lu Yingman just lowered her head and wept, her mouth tightly shut as she looked at the two men before her.

Was this still her husband? Was this still her son?

A clear, elegant, and gentle figure in white flashed through Lu Yingman's mind, and she gradually sank into contemplation.

If her daughter were still by her side, would everything be different?

Unfortunately, Qi Yin didn't care in the slightest about this insignificant bit of regret.

On the screen, weather alerts were being broadcast continuously.

A reporter wearing a raincoat stood in the center of the city: "Citizens, please do not panic!"

"This blood rain is simply dust particles rich in iron oxides being swept into the upper atmosphere by strong winds. After long-distance transport by air currents, they combine with water vapor in the clouds and eventually return to the ground as blood rain."

"Citizens, please take note: this is not the arrival of the apocalypse. This is not the apocalypse."

Suddenly, the screen turned into a blur of static.

Qi Yin only saw the final scene: a zombie was slowly approaching the reporter from behind.

"Truly seeking death," she sighed softly.

Outside the window, the blood rain was still pattering down. If she remembered correctly, this blood rain would last for three days and three nights.

Then, a massive rainstorm would follow immediately, leaving humanity with no room to breathe.

On the second day of the blood rain, everyone else was constantly honing and coordinating their Supernatural Abilities under Chen Quan's efficient arrangements.

Meanwhile, Qi Yin unexpectedly discovered a new "instruction manual" for Xiao Bai.

Ever since Xiao Bai had swallowed several high-quality raw stones containing energy and woke up two days later a size larger, it would charge at her like a starving dog every time she entered the space. It wouldn't stop until Qi Yin gave it a hug.

Thus, one iconic scene after another played out in the space: Xiao Bai constantly chasing, and Qi Yin constantly dodging.

Over time, Qi Yin discovered that under Xiao Bai's "training," her physical skills and the growth rate of her Supernatural Ability were much faster than mechanical training at the practice grounds.

The only victim was Xiao Yu, who worked hard to plant various vegetable and fruit seedlings; they truly suffered under the torment of those two.

If not for the unique attributes of the Spirit Field, these green seedlings really wouldn't have been able to withstand the devastation caused by those two idiots.

Case in point: as soon as Xiao Yu looked away, these two ancestors started again.

"Master! Xiao Bai! Stop right now! My vegetables!"

Seeing Xiao Bai's massive paws about to step on the cabbage seedlings, Xiao Yu cried out in alarm.

However, it was a step too late.

Xiao Bai seemed to lose its footing, and with a splat, an entire patch of bok choy in the Spirit Field wilted down.

Qi Yin scratched her head sheepishly, not daring to look at Xiao Yu's expression. She hurriedly moved Xiao Bai away and stuffed a large piece of meat into its mouth.

She guiltily propped up the fallen cabbage seedlings.

"Xiao Yu, you're so amazing. Look at these green vegetables, they're growing so well!"

"Wow, there's even my favorite romaine lettuce!!"

Qi Yin attempted to laugh it off and bluff her way through.

However, this time Xiao Yu wouldn't accept her flattery.

With two small hands on its hips, its cheeks were puffed out to the limit.

"Master, I'm setting a rule now. From now on, you and Xiao Bai are not to take a single step near my Spirit Field! Hmph!"

After speaking, it turned away to water the plants.

Qi Yin and Xiao Bai looked at each other; the latter's large eyes were darting around, looking very innocent.

"Xiao Bai, the two of us have been isolated! Wuwu..."

Then, an oversized sign was erected next to the Spirit Field: "Qi Yin and Tigers Forbidden."

Suddenly, the screen responsible for monitoring all conditions of the Cave Shelter emitted a sharp alarm.

Jiang Yao stared at the screen, his voice incredibly tense.

"Sister Yin, a large number of unknown heat source signals have been detected outside Shelter No. 2, and they are gathering rapidly."

Qi Yin flashed out of the space. "Are they animals?"

That place was still some distance from the city; logically, zombies shouldn't have found it so quickly.

Therefore, she could only think of animals and plants that had mutated early due to the blood rain.

Jiang Yao shook his head. "No, they have human heat signatures, but their behavior is a bit strange. It seems they are attacking the outer defenses of our shelter."

Almost simultaneously, the folding computer Qi Yin carried with her also began to ring.

The terrified shouts of a researcher came from inside, seemingly mixed with the sounds of impact and alarms.

"President Qi, this is bad! A lot of monsters suddenly appeared outside, and they're ramming the door right now!"

Qi Yin's expression darkened instantly. The blood rain hadn't even stopped; why would anyone launch a large-scale attack on the shelter at a time like this?

And why did it have to be Shelter No. 2, which housed Chen Jun and the 'Stinger' project?

She immediately pulled up earlier surveillance records of the surrounding area. The fast-forwarded blood-colored footage showed that shortly after the blood rain began, a dozen vehicles had braved the rain to hide in a nearby gully.

Dozens of people got out of those cars, all of them mysterious figures dressed in uniform black clothing, carrying sophisticated equipment, and wearing masks.

Their objective seemed very clear; they quickly surrounded the shelter as if waiting for something.

Qi Yin understood immediately. This group likely had the same goal as the group that had tried to snatch Dr. Chen Jun from her before.

They were most likely planning to take advantage of the blood rain and chaos to seize him.

However, during this time, she hadn't received any news of the The Qi Family contacting outsiders.

Could it be that they had another way of making contact?

Or was this another faction entirely?

However, the next scene in the video sent a chill through everyone watching.

Those lurking men in black began to show abnormalities under the incessant drenching of the blood rain.

At first, someone simply fell to the ground in pain, their skin turning gray-white to the naked eye.

Then, one by one, their bodies twisted, their eyes became blood-red and turbid, and they emitted inhuman rasps.

Although the weapons they carried were still slung over them, they had now lost the sanity required to use them.

All that remained was a craving for flesh and blood.

At that moment, a researcher at the entrance happened to be closing the door. Perhaps the sound of the door closing stimulated them, making the shelter their target.

Consequently, dozens of zombies that had just mutated—some even retaining their combat instincts from life—began to frantically assault the shelter's outer defenses.

Qi Yin watched the unfolding incident and snorted coldly.

"They brought it on themselves."

There wasn't a hint of pity in her eyes. If this group hadn't been thinking of looting during the crisis, they wouldn't have become the first batch of victims in the blood rain.

But now, if this wave of zombies wasn't dealt with, the safety of Shelter No. 2 would be threatened.

"Uncle Chen, you guys guard this place. Yan Xiu and Wenwen, come with me to Shelter No. 2."

Lu Jinwen looked at the crimson rain outside the window, still somewhat afraid.

"Sister, it's still raining outside."

"Move quickly. Put on protective suits and minimize our exposure time as much as possible."

Qi Yin had already strode toward the equipment room, donning a fully sealed special protective suit and equipping goggles and a mask.

The three of them quickly finished equipping. Qi Yin pulled out the previous G60 from her space and sped out of the hilltop villa along the small path.
