37: Chapter 37 Ways to Repay Kindness
Qi Yin lay on the soft, large bed, a pure third-level crystal core held between her fingertips.
The crystal core was incredibly translucent, with icy purple energy flowing seemingly docilely inside, emitting a pure halo.
"What should I do!"
Qi Yin irritably tousled her hair, causing several knots to form in her smooth, long locks.
Although Xiao Sinian hadn't successfully saved her in her previous life, she still owed him a favor regardless.
This realization made Qi Yin feel an indescribable awkwardness; she didn't know how to handle this pure sense of indebtedness.
What could she give Xiao Sinian? Protection? Xiao Sinian's unfathomable influence seemed to have no need for her at all.
Storing supplies? That was just a convenience, hardly counting as repayment.
Besides, his legs—though a bit strange—weren't completely paralyzed, fortunately.
Xiao Sinian still harbored quite a few secrets.
After much thought, Qi Yin's gaze fell upon the crystal core between her fingertips.
A pure third-level crystal core could enhance her Supernatural Ability strength, but for an ordinary person, it could help them awaken a Supernatural Ability with a hundred percent success rate.
As for his so-called old injury caused by poisoning, perhaps spiritual spring water could work wonders.
After helping him detoxify and giving him the crystal core, it would at least give Xiao Sinian an extra bit of power to establish himself in the Apocalypse.
Qi Yin nodded deeply; this was probably the most practical and direct way of repayment she could think of for now.
Yes, that's what she would do.
Without further hesitation, Qi Yin placed the crystal core into a simple brocade box and turned to head out.
In the thick of the night, Qi Yin rang the doorbell of the neighboring villa.
Mu Feng opened the door. He seemed a bit surprised to see Qi Yin but still stepped aside to let her in.
Xiao Sinian was sitting on the sofa, having changed his clothes. Qi Yin's sharp eyes immediately spotted specks of blood on his white coat.
And of course, there was a faint scent of blood lingering in the air.
Did this man just go out and kill someone?
Still, it wasn't particularly surprising.
A mask concealed Xiao Sinian's expression, leaving only his calm eyes watching her.
"Is something the matter, Little Fiancée?"
Qi Yin felt a bit uncomfortable and interrupted him.
"Oh, shut it. You're not that much older than me. Besides, that was an old engagement; it doesn't count, it doesn't count."
The act of taking the initiative to deliver something to his door felt foreign to her. She glanced at Mu Feng, who had already gone off to attend to his own business.
"Where's your room? Can we talk somewhere else?"
Xiao Sinian raised an eyebrow at her words, but he was already moving toward the stairs.
"It seems my Little Fiancée is in quite a hurry. Follow me."
Qi Yin couldn't be bothered to respond to his form of address and followed him upstairs.
Xiao Sinian's bedroom was large, but the color scheme was mostly black and white—cold, just like the impression he usually gave off.
Yet this aesthetic was actually quite similar to her own.
She stared at Xiao Sinian's legs. "Are these legs of yours actually crippled or not?"
Otherwise, why would he spend most of his time in a wheelchair yet occasionally be able to stand up?
"I was backstabbed; there's poison in my body. I can only stand up on rare occasions." Xiao Sinian's voice was very flat, as if he weren't talking about himself.
Who could backstab someone as strong as Xiao Sinian? Qi Yin glanced at his mask again, a suspicion forming in her mind.
"Then the scars on your face, are they also because of this poison?"
He didn't speak, only nodded.
With an expressionless face, Qi Yin handed over the box in her hand along with a bottle of pure spiritual spring water.
"This is for you!"
Xiao Sinian's gaze fell on the box, but he didn't take it immediately.
"What is this?"
Qi Yin looked away, focusing instead on the floor lamp beside them.
"Didn't you want to know how Brother Yan Xiu got his Supernatural Ability? This is a pure third-level crystal core. Consume it, and it will at least help you unlock a Supernatural Ability, giving you an extra layer of protection."
"And the water in this porcelain bottle—drinking it might cure your poison."
The bedroom fell silent for a moment.
Xiao Sinian looked at the small face before him, which was feigning composure but was slightly tense; the light in his eyes behind the mask seemed to flicker.
He reached out and took the porcelain bottle and the wooden box.
Opening the box, the pure, energy-filled third-level crystal core lay quietly on the black velvet, glowing with vibrant colors.
Meanwhile, the water in the porcelain bottle continuously emitted a clear energy that made one feel refreshed just by smelling it.
Xiao Sinian looked up, his gaze falling back on Qi Yin's face with a hint of scrutiny and tenderness.
"Why are you giving me this?"
Qi Yin was a bit annoyed by the question. How was she supposed to say it? To repay a life-saving debt from a previous life that never actually got fulfilled?
She pursed her lips and said stiffly, "Just eat it already."
Then she turned, found the bathroom, and ducked inside.
Seemingly treating the large bathtub in front of her as the Xiao Sinian outside, Qi Yin whispered something to herself as she filled it with spiritual spring water.
"Since you have so many questions, I'll use the pure stuff. It'll hurt like hell!"
Xiao Sinian watched her fleeing figure, his fingers unconsciously tracing the edge of the brocade box.
After a long while, his deep voice finally sounded in the quiet bedroom, very, very softly.
"Thank you."
When Qi Yin finished filling the tub and came out, Xiao Sinian had already consumed the spiritual spring water and the crystal core.
Likely due to the reaction between the toxins in his body and the pure spiritual spring water, beads of sweat were now constantly breaking out on his forehead.
Qi Yin knew it was working.
She walked over quickly and, without hesitation, picked up Xiao Sinian from his wheelchair in a princess carry and tossed him into the bathtub.
"It will be very painful. Bear with it. Once you get through it, it'll be a new life."
Qi Yin thought that someone as powerful as Xiao Sinian probably wouldn't want others to see him in such a pathetic state.
So she thoughtfully closed the bathroom door and sat on his large bed, idly flipping through a magazine.
However, her eyes remained fixed on the door, her concern evident.
Inside the bathtub, Xiao Sinian's brow was furrowed; the initial icy coolness from drinking the spiritual spring water had long since vanished.
In its place, the energy contained within the crystal core exploded inside his body, instantly surging through his meridians that had long been eroded by toxins.
The energy from the spiritual spring water flooded in at the same time. One force was violent while the other was gentle, and together they began to wash away the deep-seated poison that had accumulated in his body over many years.
Every bone in his body felt as if it were being shattered, his meridians completely severed, and even his flesh and blood were being scorched.
The toxins in his body were forcibly stripped away and decomposed by these two powerful energies. The pain of this process was far beyond ordinary imagination.
"Ugh."
An extremely low growl escaped from the depths of Xiao Sinian's throat as he curled up in the bathtub.
Qi Yin's heart tightened as she listened from outside, but she didn't go in to disturb him.
His muscles twitched and spasmed uncontrollably, and the veins on his forehead bulged like writhing earthworms.
Xiao Sinian endured it with all his might. Gradually, a foul-smelling black sludge began to seep from his skin—the toxins being forcibly expelled.
These were toxins he had tried countless methods to eliminate over the years, all to no avail.
Xiao Sinian's fingers gripped the edge of the bathtub tightly, his knuckles turning white and contorted from the excessive force.
Yet he gritted his teeth and refused to lose consciousness.
His consciousness remained startlingly clear amidst the boundless agony; he could even see the earth-shaking fluctuations of energy within his body.
After an unknown amount of time, the intense pain—enough to drive an ordinary person insane—began to slowly recede.
