82: Chapter 82 The Dead Silence of the Neighboring City
As Qi Yin's voice fell, they faintly sensed something unusual in the distance.
Cold sweat immediately broke out.
Looking in the direction where Tian Zining and his group had left, Qi Yin's eyes darted around as her fingers subconsciously tapped against her head.
Suddenly, her eyes lit up.
"Got it!"
She reached out her hand, and a small Alloy Dragonfly appeared in her palm.
This was a miniature monitor she had hand-crafted earlier; it was equipped with a high-definition camera and could last about a month on a full charge.
After adjusting the program and confirming that the folding laptop could receive the footage from the camera, Qi Yin released the Alloy Dragonfly.
"Follow them."
Chen Quan gave a thumbs up. "Sister Yin is still the most thoughtful."
If it were them, they probably would have just sent a few people out to tail them.
After Tian Zining's team finished packing up, the ambushing Ability Users cast a wary glance toward them before vanishing into the wind and snow-filled night.
With the crisis averted, Chen Quan let out a sigh of relief.
However, Qi Yin fell back into deep thought as she watched the Ability Users responsible for meeting them on the computer screen.
She had seen their attire before.
"They've appeared again. Just who... are they?"
What connection did Wang Hui have with these people?
This woman absolutely could not be left alive!
She still wants to come back and collect the oil? Heh, what kind of pipe dream is she having?
Qi Yin made a hand gesture. "Pump out all the remaining oil. Don't leave a single drop."
Wang Hui's space was limited, but hers wasn't.
She could take in as much as there was.
Xu Yongning grinned.
"Understood! Let those stingy bastards have nothing. Yang Zi, come with me. Let's see how much stock is left in the underground oil depot."
With that, he vigorously led the somewhat reckless Wen Yang to move the connectors and pumps.
Chen Quan and Wang Tianyu tacitly began checking the valves and volumes of the other two large oil storage tanks.
Mu Feng remained calm, his figure constantly weaving around the oil storage station, instantly snapping the necks of any zombies he saw wandering over.
That team earlier had dealt with all the zombies, but they probably hadn't realized the use of crystal cores yet, which worked out in their favor.
Lu Yanxiu dug them out one by one, rinsed them clean with water, and handed them to Qi Yin.
Lu Jinwen curled her lip, recalling the scene of Wang Hui collecting items earlier.
"Sigh, I never thought a wicked woman like Wang Hui would have a Spatial Ability. It's really gone to her head."
Lu Yanxiu snorted disdainfully. A small flame flickered to life with a 'poof,' and he shook it boastfully.
"Tsk, isn't it enough that Yin Yin has space? Why would we need it? When it comes to fighting, you have to rely on my fire!"
"Save your energy, you two. Get to work." Qi Yin's voice came through, and the two immediately fell silent, quickening their pace.
Soon, Xu Yongning brought back good news.
The oil reserves in the underground depot were quite substantial!
Qi Yin brought out the large oil drums she had prepared long ago and filled them all to the brim.
Looking at the emptied storage station, Qi Yin felt very reassured.
The blizzard had only quieted for a moment before it began pounding down like crazy again. It wasn't suitable for traveling at night.
"Let's stay here for the night and set out tomorrow morning."
Under everyone's expectant gazes, Qi Yin waved her hand, and several large boxes and a portable butane stove instantly appeared on the conference room table.
"Wow! My favorite hotpot! Sister, I absolutely love you."
Lu Jinwen was the first to cheer, her eyes sparkling.
Xu Yongning and Wen Yang couldn't wait to come over and help set up the pot to boil water.
Even the usually steady Chen Quan and Xu Yongning had smiles on their faces.
In this kind of weather, having hotpot was much more comfortable than eating boxed meals that would go cold as soon as they were taken out.
The rich aroma of hotpot filled the abandoned oil station. Various fresh meat slices, energy vegetables produced in the space, and wide glass noodles were all tossed into the pot.
They sat around together, eating until they were sweating profusely.
Lu Jinwen picked up a large slice of fatty beef and stuffed it into her mouth with satisfaction.
"Tsk, if those people gnawing on expired bread saw this, wouldn't they die of envy?"
"That's why we have to stick with Yin Yin! Otherwise, where would we get hotpot to eat?"
Lu Yanxiu's mouth was stuffed full.
Qi Yin shook her head with a smile and poured him a glass of mango juice. "Even eating can't shut your mouth."
Wang Tianyu carefully scooped out the cooked food first for the two ladies present.
In the Apocalypse, eating a warm meal so peacefully was already a rare luxury.
After dinner, they took turns standing guard in pairs.
The next morning, the snow still hadn't stopped, and the world was a vast expanse of white.
The current temperature was stable at around minus eighty-five degrees. Lu Yanxiu breathed out, and it instantly turned to ice.
After putting on their windproof gear, the four snowmobiles set out again, heading toward Lin City Medical University, two hundred kilometers away.
The closer they got to Lin City, the more heavy Qi Yin felt the atmosphere become.
There were more and more abandoned vehicles by the roadside, and frozen corpses could still be seen in some of them.
More and more dark shadows moved through the snow curtain. Those zombies, which were gradually adapting to the severe cold, heard the sound of the engines and roared as they rushed toward them.
"Ignore these guys, just keep going."
Qi Yin was still thinking about Wang Hui's matter; she had to hurry and settle things here.
The group finally entered the outskirts of Lin City.
Deathly silence.
A complete and utter deathly silence.
Qi Yin stood still and looked out. The streets, buildings, and plazas were all covered by a vast expanse of snow.
But on top of the snow were densely packed zombies. They moved across the snow in various twisted postures, their numbers so great it made one's scalp tingle.
The entire city seemed like a giant monster production base.
Lu Jinwen leaned on the vehicle, her voice trembling.
"My god... just... how many are there?"
Qi Yin spoke with a heavy tone: "The whole city... has fallen."
As expected of the city where zombies first appeared; the zombie virus was deployed with pinpoint accuracy.
At least Kyoto still had survivors, but in Lin City, not a single living person remained.
Xu Yongning slammed on the brakes, sliding with Wen Yang across the ice for a distance before stopping.
"Sister Yin, this... how do we get through?"
Qi Yin observed calmly through her mask.
The streets were completely blocked by zombies and abandoned vehicles; driving was impossible.
"Get off. We walk."
After putting away the snowmobiles, the group stepped into the shin-deep snow.
If their boots hadn't been made of specialized insulation material, their legs wouldn't feel like their own by now.
They would probably be like wooden stakes picked up from somewhere.
Every step was taken with extreme caution, trying their best to avoid the figures wandering the streets.
Mu Feng's figure flickered ahead of them, constantly pointing out safe paths and potential dangers.
"On the left... there are five."
"Go around them."
Qi Yin immediately led the team to change direction, moving along the walls of the buildings while holding their breath.
These guys weren't as stupid as the ones in Kyoto; both their hearing and sense of smell were much sharper. They would be discovered if they weren't careful.
Lu Yanxiu clenched his fists, a faint fire flickering at his fingertips, but he was glared back into submission by Chen Quan.
After nearly an hour of moving with their hearts in their throats, a partially collapsed large supermarket finally appeared at the end of their vision.
The supermarket's glass doors seemed relatively intact, and the enclosed structure looked like a decent temporary shelter.
Qi Yin made a hand gesture: "Supermarket ahead. Speed up, and be careful."
Everyone's spirits lifted, and they couldn't help but quicken their pace.
However, just as they were about a dozen meters away from the supermarket entrance—
"Move! Don't block the way!"
