34: Chapter 34 Zombies Appear

Cutting off the backup power still caused a small-scale disturbance, and by now, the courtyard was already in some chaos.

More guards swarmed toward the generator room, which just happened to create an opportunity for Qi Yin and her group to retreat.

They successfully rendezvoused with Chen Quan and the others, and just as they had arrived silently, they disappeared once again into the dim shadows without a sound.

Only after they were far away from the mansion and seated inside the off-road vehicle did Lu Jinwen dare to speak excitedly.

"Good heavens, I simply can't believe it. A whole ten tons of gold, and we actually managed to get it."

Qi Yin leaned back in the rear seat, sensing the mountain of gold that had suddenly appeared in her space, a smile emerging at the corners of her lips.

"Mm, everyone did well."

In the early days of the Apocalypse, digital currency disappeared, and gold became an essential strategic reserve for any organization, which could be used to trade for many good things.

For example, large quantities of food, weapons and ammunition, or the large service fees required for passage between various organizations, and so on.

Most importantly, she had asked Xiao Yu; although gold could not be used as currency in the shop, as long as an item was inside the space, it could be replicated a hundredfold using gold.

This meant that when resources gradually dried up, as long as she still had a little bit of supplies on hand and possessed enough gold, she could replicate those supplies.

It was equivalent to gaining another major asset.

The atmosphere inside the car became heated because of a decisive "battle," and everyone was immersed in excitement.

Buildings flashed by outside the window, and a gentle breeze brought a moment of peace.

"The vast horizon is my love..."

An upbeat phone ringtone sounded, and it played for several lines before Lu Yanxiu realized it was his phone.

"Sorry, sorry." He scratched his head apologetically.

Everyone laughed, not taking it to heart, and even finding it amusing.

After Lu Yanxiu hung up the phone, Qi Yin looked at his slightly off expression: "What's wrong?"

She spoke to Chen Quan, who was driving in front, and the car pulled over steadily to the side of the road.

Lu Yanxiu's expression was grave: "Internal police reports and network clips from several remote areas have just been intercepted, showing that a large-scale malicious assault has occurred in Lin City. The perpetrators look very much like the kind of zombies you mentioned before."

"And this matter is spreading through society at an extremely fast rate. Although the authorities are trying their best to block the news, it's estimated they won't be able to hide it much longer. The boss and the others have already headed over there."

Upon hearing this, Qi Yin hurriedly took out her foldable computer and pulled up the video of the assault he mentioned.

She saw over a dozen people on the screen with strange behavior, stiff postures, and covered in blood, chasing people on the street while roaring.

In an instant, the originally crowded masses scattered in all directions.

This wasn't just looking like them; these really were zombies.

However, Qi Yin felt very strange. The blood rain wasn't supposed to start until midnight tomorrow night; why would zombies appear tonight?

In other words, in her past life, the time zombies appeared might actually have been before the blood rain.

And the existence of the blood rain only accelerated the spread of the zombie virus.

What on earth was going on? Could her rebirth have changed something?

What exactly was the source of the zombie virus?

Could it be related to the zombie animals from Sakura Country that Xiao Sinian had told her about earlier?

"Brother Yan Xiu, Xiao Sinian is a cripple; what is he doing going to the scene?"

Lu Yanxiu clearly hadn't expected her focus to be on this, and he was momentarily embarrassed, rubbing his nose with a guilty conscience.

How was he supposed to say it? Should he say the boss wasn't lame, just that his legs were uncomfortable and he was too lazy to move?

Would that cause these two ancestors to fight? If so, his sin would be truly great, and the boss would probably kill him.

"How about we go over and take a look too? It's a good chance for us to practice."

Qi Yin raised an eyebrow, knowing that Lu Yanxiu didn't intend to say anything more.

Forget it, wouldn't she know just by going over to take a look herself?

Several assault rifles and the corresponding ammunition magazines suddenly appeared in her hands, one for each person.

"Equip your weapons, let's go."

And so, the group that had just arrived at their doorstep turned around and headed toward Lin City, where the zombies had appeared.

The atmosphere inside the car shifted from excitement to gravity, and the group silently checked their firearms and daggers.

Although Lu Jinwen had been fierce since she was little, that was always toward people. Now that she had to kill zombies, which only appeared in movies, it was inevitable that she would still feel afraid.

Lu Yanxiu, who was equally nervous, could only comfort her constantly from the side.

Qi Yin's nerves were pulled tight; she kept feeling like something wasn't quite right.

From the video, one could see that the number of zombies seemed to be constantly increasing, from the initial dozen or so to over thirty now.

Their speed wasn't fast, but they didn't know pain, stepping over the corpses of their companions and inching closer to normal people.

In the buildings further away, there seemed to be more black figures moving.

Qi Yin's eyes grew colder and colder. This was too illogical; the first small-scale zombie horde had come too quickly.

By the time they arrived in Lin City, it was already two hours later.

At this time, the crowds on the street had all been evacuated, leaving only a zombie horde that had doubled in size again, continuously gathering toward the Central Avenue.

The closer they got, the stronger the stench of rot permeating the air became.

Faint roars and the sounds of explosions also became clearer and clearer.

Qi Yin pushed open the car door, closed her eyes, and extended a trace of mental energy.

Nearly a hundred gray dots appeared in her mind, constantly moving toward the seven green dots at the center of Central Avenue.

Opening her eyes, Qi Yin inwardly cried out that it was bad.

If she wasn't mistaken, those seven green dots should be Xiao Sinian and his group.

It had been nearly three hours since the incident began, and furthermore, Xiao Sinian was a cripple; no matter how skilled he was, at this point, he should basically be at the end of his rope.

Qi Yin waved her hand and threw five protective suits onto the car.

"I'll head over first. You all change into the clothes before coming over. Remember, you must not get hurt by the zombies."

After speaking, without waiting for the others to reply, she summoned the dragon-patterned tang saber from her space and ran quickly toward the direction of the green dots.

On the open ground, a dark mass of zombies surged like a tide; the number was visually estimated to be close to two hundred, and they were frantically besieging the few figures in the central area.

It was precisely Xiao Sinian, Mu Feng whom Qi Yin knew, and the four men and one woman she had seen at the mine earlier.

At this moment, they were backing against a modified off-road vehicle, forming a simple defensive perimeter.

The sound of gunfire had gradually become sparse; it was clear that their ammunition was almost exhausted.

Mu Feng reloaded his magazine again, his voice trembling slightly: "Boss, what kind of monsters are these? Why are there more and more of them!"

With their ammunition exhausted, the four men and one woman cursed inwardly and switched to cold weapons to fight the zombies to the death.

Their fighting style was extremely fierce and efficient; every strike went straight for the zombies' heads, with movements that were concise and lethal.

Moreover, their coordination was quite tacit, as if they were a few cold killing machines.

Mu Feng guarded Xiao Sinian's wheelchair, his marksmanship very accurate, almost every shot hitting the head, but his face had already turned visibly pale.

And Xiao Sinian, whom he was protecting behind him, sat in his wheelchair, holding a long blade in his hand, accurately hacking and slashing at any zombie that tried to break through the defense line and charge up.

His expression was extremely cold, without any hesitation.

However, Qi Yin saw him punch his own leg.
