49: Chapter 49 A Critical Moment
Everyone knew.
Releasing one's aura at this time would only attract Tiger Biao's attention, and then no one would be able to leave.
"What are you looking at! If you don't want to die, leave quickly. This is something our King specifically demanded!"
Wu Li tilted his head, a trace of amusement flashing in his bead-like black eyes.
From these words, Wu Li could tell that this Pangolin Demon seemed to have some backing.
He didn't want to make enemies with the Yao Race in the mountains right now, but at the same time, he didn't want to let go of a single vermilion fruit he had obtained. He let out a low chuckle, his tone suddenly softening.
"Sure, but I wonder, brother, which King do you serve under?"
The Pangolin Demon heard this and puffed out its chest even higher.
"At least you're sensible! My King is the Azure-Horned Deer King of the western foothills of Taiyue Mountain."
"He is at the Late Stage of Tier 2, with over a hundred Deer Demons under his command. The entire western foothills are my King's territory!"
"My King has had his eyes on these tiger blood vermilion fruits for three years, and he sent me here to tunnel through the mountain for six whole months!"
Wu Li nodded, a flash of understanding in his eyes.
The Azure-Horned Deer King, Late Stage of Tier 2.
Hard to provoke as he might be, Wu Li didn't want to give up a single vermilion fruit he had obtained.
Seeing that Wu Li remained silent, the Pangolin Demon thought he had backed down. It stepped forward triumphantly, stretching out its claw to grab the vermilion fruit from Wu Li's claws, muttering all the while.
"You may leave..."
Before it could finish its sentence.
Wu Li's claw suddenly came down, not grabbing the Pangolin Demon's body, but fiercely slapping down on its claw!
"Crack!"
The sound of bones fracturing was clearly audible.
The Pangolin Demon's claw was deformed from the strike, several phalanges broken, and fresh blood gushed from between its claws.
The Pangolin Demon let out a shrill scream as its body recoiled backward. It fell to the ground, rolling twice, its grayish-brown fur covered in dirt and bloodstains.
"You... what are you doing!"
"Can't you tell what I'm doing?!"
Wu Li sneered.
Clutching its broken claw, the Pangolin Demon's blood-red eyes were filled with terror and rage. "Aren't you afraid of my King..."
Wu Li didn't waste words. He glanced in Tiger Biao's direction, then surged his Demon Power, sweeping up all the tiger blood vermilion fruits to float beside him, leaving only the last one in his claw.
Then, with a sudden spread of his wings, his body shot up from the ground like an arrow, rushing straight into the sky!
At this moment, the Pangolin Demon's claw was bleeding.
The instant the smell of blood drifted out.
In the center of the valley, the ears of the Tiger Biao on the blue stone suddenly twitched.
Immediately after, a pair of tiger eyes snapped open.
Those dark gold pupils were hollow and lightless, containing only pinpoint round pupils. There was no intelligence or emotion in its gaze, only the most primitive, purest brutality and killing intent.
"Boom~"
Tiger Biao raised its head, sniffing the scent in the air. Then, its muscles tensed, and its short, steel-needle-like fur stood on end. A brutal, bloodthirsty aura surged outward like a tide.
"Roar!!"
Tiger Biao let out a deafening roar, causing the entire valley to tremble.
It saw the black crow flying out of the valley clutching its vermilion fruit, but it saw the injured Pangolin Demon even more.
The Pangolin Demon's soul almost departed its body in terror. Its fur stood on end, and the sharp pain from its broken claw was instantly overwhelmed by fear.
It wanted to run, but Tiger Biao had already locked onto it. Just its gaze alone made this Tier 1 Demonic Beast tremble with absolute terror.
A fierce light flickered in those dark gold pupils, like two burning ghost fires, locking onto this bleeding prey within its territory.
"No... no..."
The Pangolin Demon retreated trembling, its broken claw dragging a trail of blood on the ground.
The smell of blood permeated the air like the most fatal temptation, thoroughly igniting Tiger Biao's ferocity.
"Roar!"
Tiger Biao pounced, its massive body like a moving hill, moving at an astonishing speed.
Before the Pangolin Demon could even scream, it was slammed heavily onto the ground by a massive paw.
Tiger Biao's claws pierced through the Pangolin Demon's body, and fresh blood gushed out.
"Ah!!"
The Pangolin Demon let out a brief, sharp scream, which was then abruptly cut short.
Tiger Biao lowered its head, opened its bloody maw, and bit down on the Pangolin Demon's head in one bite.
The sound of bones crushing was clearly audible. Blood dripped from the corners of Tiger Biao's mouth onto the ground. It raised its head, its throat working as it swallowed the Pangolin Demon whole, without even spitting out the bones.
With its mouth covered in blood, Tiger Biao licked its lips. Its dark gold pupils slowly turned, locking onto Wu Li, who was flying away in the sky.
Tiger Biao's nostrils flared, catching the scent lingering in the air, as well as the aura of the crow.
The fierce light in its eyes flared. It kicked off the ground with its four limbs, its massive body shooting out like an arrow from a bow!
"Boom!"
A deep crater was stamped into the ground, sending shattered stones flying.
Tiger Biao's speed was astonishingly fast. Its massive body shuttled through the jagged rocks, not appearing clumsy in the slightest.
"Hmm?"
Wu Li also saw the rapid approach of Tiger Biao at this moment.
"So fast!"
"Roar!"
Right then, Tiger Biao rushed up the stone wall on one side of the valley. Its four claws, like hooks, gripped the rock firmly, climbing vertically as if it were flat ground.
Wu Li looked back from mid-air, his pupils suddenly shrinking.
"What the hell!"
Tiger Biao had already rushed to the top of the stone wall. Kicking off with its hind legs, its entire body soared into the air like a fired cannonball, pouncing straight toward Wu Li.
The massive silhouette blocked out half the sky. Its steel-needle-like short fur gleamed coldly in the sunlight, and the remnants of the Pangolin Demon's flesh still hung from its bloody maw.
Wu Li's feathers puffed up instantly. Empowered by his Demon Power, his wings flapped frantically, and his body shot upward in the air.
"Roar!!"
Tiger Biao's claws swept past beneath him, the fierce wind it whipped up almost knocking him over. However, the height of Tiger Biao's pounce had reached its limit, and its massive body began to fall.
"Boom!"
Tiger Biao slammed heavily onto the ground, smashing out a large crater and sending shattered stones flying.
Yet it was not injured, nor did it even pause. Upon landing, it immediately rolled over and stood up, its dark gold pupils staring fixedly at Wu Li in the sky before letting out another roar.
"Roar!!"
The tiger's roar was like thunder, its soundwaves diffusing outward like a physical force, shaking the loose stones in the valley so that they rattled down.
"Buzz!!"
Wu Li's brain shuddered, and then he felt his body suddenly stiffen. The Demon Power inside him actually stopped flowing for a brief instant, as if something had pinched the pathways of its circulation.
The flapping of his wings became sluggish, his posture grew unstable, and after wobbling a few times in the air, he almost fell.
"Not good!"
Wu Li forced his Demon Power to circulate. The Blood Eye Pagoda Sutra ran frantically inside him, and blood-colored scriptures emerged from beneath his feathers, reopening the blocked flow of Demon Power.
He stabilized his body and looked down. That Tiger Biao was already sprinting again.
Its four claws moved like the wind, its massive body dragging an afterimage across the ground as it rushed toward the stone wall on the other side, preparing to climb high and pounce again.
"Who the fuck said this thing has no intelligence!"
Wu Li cursed angrily.
Although this thing lacked sentience, its combat instincts were terrifyingly strong.
It knew how to utilize the terrain, how to judge the timing, and even knew which angle of attack would be most effective.
It indeed had no other intelligence, but it had integrated the skills of slaughter into its very bones.
