236: Chapter 336 Capturing Harlem Air Base
After the Anti-Israel Coalition Joint Command issued navigation warning orders, it urged all front commands to accelerate their offensive speed, annihilate the Israel army as soon as possible, and completely destroy Israel.
The Golan Heights Front Command not only received weapons and ammunition deployed by Syria, but also newly purchased missiles and artillery shells, ensuring sufficient firepower for the offensive.
In the Blida area, the Syrian army and the Iranian army jointly launched a large-scale offensive against the Israeli army. Utilizing over 800 artillery pieces, they continuously bombarded the defensive fortifications urgently built by the Northern Command Headquarters of Israel, reducing the entire city's defensive line to ruins.
Following this, over 1,200 tanks and armored vehicles conducted zone-by-zone clearing operations around the Israeli defense lines, taking out the various strongholds established by Israel one by one and annihilating any Israeli soldiers who had survived the bombardment.
After enduring prolonged shelling, the Israeli soldiers were already mentally broken. Faced with the Syrian troops charging onto their positions, some directly raised their hands in surrender. Even those Israeli soldiers who wished to resist to the end were unable to organize effective resistance under the suppression of armored vehicles and ultimately became cannon fodder for tank shells.
After breaking through the defense lines in the Blida area, the Iranian army immediately launched a pursuit. Because the Israeli army was unable to build new defense lines in time, they soon began to abandon their equipment and flee.
Upon learning of the Israeli army's disastrous defeat in the Golan Heights, the Lebanon Front Command, led by Major General Moss, immediately ordered the Lebanese and Palestinian forces to break through the Israeli border defense lines and advance into Israeli territory.
Previously, the two sides had exchanged artillery fire, destroying Israel's border defenses time and again. This time, after another concentrated bombardment, the Israeli army assumed that, as in the past, no ground troops would be deployed for an offensive.
However, unexpectedly, Major General Moss immediately committed five Mechanized Infantry Brigades and six Drone Battalions, following up the artillery barrage with an immediate ground assault. Countless tanks and armored vehicles swarmed onto the Israeli positions, catching the hiding Israeli soldiers off guard, leading to them being killed or captured before they could react.
With the Israeli border positions breached, Major General Moss immediately ordered the various Mechanized Infantry Brigades to continue their advance until they encountered significant resistance from Israel.
During their advance, two of Lebanon's Mechanized Infantry Brigades surrounded the Israeli garrison at Harem Air Force Base. Because the Northern Command Headquarters of Israel had deployed significant forces there, and the airbase possessed relatively complete defensive facilities, the Lebanese troops were unable to breach it.
Just as Major General Moss was at a loss, three Mechanized Infantry Brigades from Iran arrived in the nearby towns. Upon receiving the news, Major General Moss immediately contacted the Golan Heights Front Command, hoping to coordinate with the Iranian forces to annihilate the enemy troops at Harem Air Force Base.
Soon, the three Iranian Mechanized Infantry Brigades that had received the order rushed to Harem Air Force Base, joining the Lebanese forces to surround the airbase completely.
After communication between the commanders of both sides, an operational plan was formulated. The operation began with a massive bombardment by the "Fierce Lion" series Artillery, which targeted not only the airbase's defensive positions but also its runways and various base structures.
The aircraft at Harem Air Force Base had long since been depleted in previous engagements, and some air force personnel had evacuated. However, troops remained stationed there for defense, ensuring the airbase could be reactivated at any time.
What Israel did not expect, however, was that these troops would not be waiting for reinforcements of fighter jets from Israel, but rather for the arrival of the Lebanese army.
After the intense artillery barrage concluded, the "Tianlong" series UAVs continued to conduct precision strikes, bombarding areas where the enemy might be hiding once again.
Only then did the Lebanese and Iranian forces launch the final all-out assault. After successive bombardments, the Israeli army no longer had the capacity to hold their ground. Even though some Israeli soldiers attempted to counterattack, they were unable to hold the defense lines.
Under an onslaught that bulldozed everything in its path with tanks and armored vehicles, Harem Air Force Base was captured in less than a day. Most of the stationed Israeli soldiers were killed in the shelling or combat, and only about a hundred surrendered and were taken prisoner.
While the battle at Harem Air Force Base was underway, the Syrian army also advanced to Palmachim Airbase. The situation at Palmachim Airbase was slightly better than at Harem Air Force Base; although most of the fighter jets had been destroyed, a small number of F-16 Fighter Jets and UAVs remained.
However, due to a lack of aviation fuel, these aircraft could not take off for combat and could only be parked in underground hangars. Israel had originally planned to transfer these aircraft to rear airfields, but they had not expected the Syrian army to advance so quickly, leaving Israel no time to relocate the jets.
Major General Zaha, seeing the airbase that had frequently launched fighter jets to bully Syria, was filled with anger and vowed to completely destroy it and kill the Israeli personnel who had massacred the Syrian military and civilians.
After conducting comprehensive reconnaissance on Palmachim Airbase, Major General Zaha directly mobilized and committed eight Mechanized Infantry Brigades, mostly Syrian troops, to participate in the all-out assault on Palmachim Airbase.
Because Palmachim Airbase had been established for a long time, it had many defensive facilities, which caused Major General Zaha quite some trouble during the offensive. In addition to conventional artillery bombardment, UAVs also conducted prolonged bombing runs.
In order to ascertain the firepower deployment of the Israeli garrison as much as possible, Major General Zaha also ordered some Mechanized Infantry Brigades to conduct probing attacks. After several days of bombardment, the entire scene at Palmachim Airbase was as tragic as the aftermath of a magnitude-7 earthquake.
Seeing that Israel basically had little capacity for counterattack, Major General Zaha immediately ordered the various Mechanized Infantry Brigades to launch their offensive from different directions.
Major Nokin, as one of the officers in charge of Palmachim Airbase, was hit by a suddenly falling shell while inspecting the various defensive positions and was torn to pieces.
There were also fighter pilots like Captain Ezer and Captain Sidi who had originally received orders to evacuate, but they were surrounded by the Syrian army and could not leave, so they had to remain at Palmachim Airbase to participate in the defensive operations.
However, their fate was soon sealed under the Syrian army's offensive. Without even a chance to surrender, they were killed by infantry deployed from a "Fierce Tiger" armored vehicle.
Major General Zaha watched with satisfaction as Palmachim Airbase was captured. Although some casualties were suffered in the battle, his goal of retaliating against Palmachim Airbase had been fully achieved.
