69: Old Huang came to visit.

"A full-screen design!"

"Full-screen?"

Yang Tuo was somewhat unfamiliar with this term and didn't know what kind of design a full-screen display entailed.

"We plan to create a phone where the entire front is nothing but screen. We'll remove the forehead and chin, making the bezels extremely narrow. When people actually hold a full-screen phone, everyone will be shocked and their expectations will be subverted!"

Chen Chen introduced the concept with full confidence. When the MIX was first released in his past life, it directly allowed Xiaomi, a company that had been suffering from declining performance, to achieve growth against the trend and completely subvert mobile phone design.

From 2016 to 2024, almost every mobile phone manufacturer was working toward a front that was entirely screen.

Yang Tuo swallowed hard; he couldn't imagine what a phone with a front entirely made of screen would look like right now.

If Red Star really pulled it off, it would truly be revolutionary.

"Mr. Chen, what about the front camera?"

Since the front is all screen, they surely couldn't just cancel the front-facing camera, right?

This was Yang Tuo's first thought: where would the camera go?

"We haven't finalized the solution yet. One option is to use a pop-up camera; another is to remove the front camera entirely and put a small screen on the back, so users can flip the phone over when they need to take a selfie or make a video call."

"Not only that, we are also experimenting with a brand-new material—microcrystalline nano-zirconia, which is industrial ceramic. We'll use ceramic for the entire phone casing. Imagine it: the front is a solid piece of screen, and when you pick it up, it's as smooth as a piece of jade."

"Mr. Chen, I understand."

"I'll have Assistant Shen speak with the development department. When you have time, go talk to Cui Yichen and Dr. Zhou. You can start thinking about the marketing copy for this phone in advance."

After Yang Tuo left, Chen Chen called Shen Rou in from the next room.

"Xiao Shen, give Dr. Zhou a heads-up and tell him I've agreed to let Yang Tuo participate in the full-screen project."

"Alright, Mr. Chen."

"Mr. Chen, Huang Renxun from Nvidia sent a letter yesterday wanting to have a meeting with you. He said he has some business he'd like to discuss."

"Nvidia's Huang Renxun?"

Chen Chen took a sip of coffee and set it on the table, wondering what kind of business 'Old Huang' wanted to talk to him about.

Chen Chen never used to drink coffee, preferring 'happy fat man water'—specifically Coca-Cola. But since coming to Red Star, various matters had made him grow fond of this bitter taste.

It was all forced by circumstances!

Could he want me to use their chips? One must know that Nvidia wasn't having an easy time right now. In terms of graphics cards, they were being hammered by AMD and Intel. They looked nothing like the AI giant of the future; currently, their CUDA platform still couldn't find much use.

Others might not know, but Chen Chen knew how powerful Old Huang's CUDA was. CUDA is a parallel computing platform and programming model that leverages Nvidia GPUs for general-purpose parallel computing, working across both software and hardware.

It provides developers with an efficient way to utilize GPU parallel computing. In plain terms, each CUDA core can be seen as a CPU; with thousands of CUDA cores on a single GPU calculating in parallel, it can provide formidable computing power.

The problem was that, normally, Red Star would be releasing a new phone in September. Even if he wanted to use it now, it would likely be too late for optimization.

Furthermore, Red Star had its own processors; there was absolutely no need to choose Nvidia's processors.

As for what kind of quality that processor actually was, aside from Lei Jun a few months from now, Chen Chen probably knew best.

It was the kind that would scammed Lei Jun so badly he'd almost curse his mother.

Aside from discussing chips, Chen Chen really couldn't think of any other reason Old Huang would look for him.

He absolutely wouldn't dare use their Tegra 4, not even in mid-to-low-end models.

This was the original 'Fire Dragon,' and its heat issues were much worse than the previous generation Tegra 3.

However, since the man had sent a letter, it wouldn't be right to refuse. Besides, this was a good opportunity to invest in Nvidia. Right now, their market value was only around 8 billion USD, but in ten years, it would be a trillion.

"Tell Old Huang to make it three days from now. I'll happen to have time then, and we can talk."

"Three days from now at 2:30 PM. Does that work for you?"

"That works."

Once Chen Chen finished speaking, Shen Rou recorded the schedule.

For Huang Renxun, the meeting with Chen Chen was just the icing on the cake. This year's Tegra 4 had already found several partners in China.

The one with the largest sales volume was Xiaomi.

As early as the first half of the year, Old Huang had gone to Xiaomi to negotiate a partnership with Lei Jun.

Lei Jun had also agreed to equip the newly developed mi 3 phone with the Tegra 4 processor.

Of course, Lei Jun didn't know what this would mean for Xiaomi. He was still full of joy, saying that the Tegra 4 had stronger performance than MediaTek's processors and was cheaper than Qualcomm's.

On the afternoon of August 9th, Shen Rou told Chen Chen that Huang Renxun's car was about to arrive at the entrance of Hongxing Science and Technology Park. Chen Chen took Lu Weiqi and Yang Tuo downstairs to the park entrance to greet him.

Regardless, the man was the CEO of a listed company. Even if he didn't plan on using the Tegra 4 processor this time, showing some respect would make future dealings easier.

After the vehicle came to a steady stop, Huang Renxun was quite excited to see that Red Star placed such importance on him.

There's hope!

Maybe he could sell the Tegra 4 to one more company this time.

He nimbly opened the car door. Seeing Chen Chen's extended hand, he hurriedly grasped it tightly with both of his own and said in awkward Mandarin:

"Mr. Chen, you truly are a hero appearing in his youth!"

"Mr. Huang, you flatter me. Compared to your Nvidia, it's not worth mentioning, not worth mentioning."

Enduring the awkward Mandarin, Chen Chen exchanged a few flatteries with Old Huang, and they went together to Red Star's meeting room.

After taking their seats, Old Huang got straight to the point:

"Mr. Chen, to tell you the truth, I've come to Red Star today seeking cooperation."

Seeing that Chen Chen didn't respond, Old Huang continued:

"Our Nvidia Tegra 4 processor is a chip with very strong performance, not at all inferior to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800. I know your company has its own chips, but I still hope you can give Nvidia a chance and purchase a batch."

"Forgive me, Mr. Chen, my Chinese... um, is not very good."

"Mr. Huang, you're being modest; you speak very well. How about you continue in English? My assistant can translate for me."

Chen Chen really couldn't stand Old Huang's heavily accented Mandarin; he felt like he was about to be led astray by it.

This Old Huang's ancestral home was in Taiwan, but he grew up in the USA. He founded Nvidia at the age of 30 and even invented the GPU in 1999. It's just that Nvidia's current situation wasn't great, so Old Huang had begun to venture into mobile terminal processors.

Therefore, he kept his posture very low.

"Mr. Huang, I admit the Tegra 4 is an excellent processor, but I'm truly sorry; Red Star currently has no plans to purchase it for our mid-to-high-end models."

"I apologize, but I prefer to be direct."

The expectant look in Old Huang's eyes instantly turned into disappointment.
