108: Chapter 108 is very smooth.

At the very front of the hall stood a statue several meters high, carved from a single piece of stone.

At this moment, a burly man stood in front of the statue, listening to the sounds of prayer drifting in from outside the hall, his expression ugly as he glared at the statue.

The statue was in the likeness of a middle-aged man with a very rugged demeanor. He held a long spear high in his hand, his eyes wide with rage as he stared forward, as if the statue would come to life in the next moment and raise the spear to kill anyone in front of it.

Yet, facing this statue, there was no fear on the burly man's face; his eyes remained fixed tightly upon it.

It was as if he were demanding an explanation from the statue.

"I have already done what I promised you, but what about what you promised me? Why haven't I seen any progress yet? How much longer do you intend to drag this out?!"

Looking at the statue, the burly man suddenly spoke, as if it were not a statue before him, but a living person with Sentience.

Seeing that the statue did not answer his question, the burly man continued to interrogate it.

"Don't keep playing dead. If you want to play dead, then just keep playing dead forever. Let's see how long you can keep it up!"

What made it terrifying was that as the burly man asked this, a rustling sound suddenly echoed throughout the hall, as if something were constantly crawling in a place unseen by people.

Hearing this movement, there was no fear whatsoever on the burly man's face, and his gaze remained fixed on the statue.

"My friend, please don't be impatient. It's only been ten days or so. Even if I were a deity, I couldn't conjure an army with extraordinary powers out of thin air. This takes time."

Just then, a hoarse and deep voice suddenly sounded from the darkness.

When the burly man heard this, not only did no fear appear on his face, but he instead showed anger, as if these words had touched upon his taboo.

The burly man roared angrily: "Don't be impatient, don't be impatient—every time I come to ask you this question, you fob me off like this!"

"Have you forgotten what you promised me in the beginning? You said that as long as I helped you spread your faith and helped you recover, you would help me build an invincible army, help me conquer Savien, and even the Kingdom of Cold Ash, and help me become King."

"I trusted you. I took out all my Family's wealth and grain to help you spread your faith, but look at what you've done—you only convert a few wanderers with powerful strength every day!"

"I'm afraid if things go on like this, I might not even see the army you promised before I die. Furthermore, you sent those wanderers out without even notifying me."

"What are you trying to do? What exactly are you doing behind my back? Today you must give me an accurate answer; I don't want to hear your excuses anymore!"

Speaking up to this point, a look of cruel threat appeared on the burly man's face.

"If I don't get the answer I want today, I will kill all your believers, destroy your statue, and lock you underground."

"I haven't forgotten your pathetic state at the very beginning. You wouldn't want to turn back into that state, would you?"

Speaking of this, the burly man seemed to recall something; he rubbed his chin and said mockingly.

"No, wait. If you dare to refuse me, perhaps I should hand you over to those wizards who are very interested in strange things like you."

"Perhaps those wizards could help me achieve my dream. You wouldn't want that, would you?"

"I've finished speaking. How about you? Do you have anything to say?"

The burly man looked at the silent statue, a look of assurance on his face, as if the statue had already been forced to agree to his proposal.

The hall fell into a slight silence at this moment; even the sounds of prayer outside the hall seemed to have stopped.

But the next moment, the silent hall was broken by a sigh.

Hearing this sigh, a look of victory appeared on the burly man's face, thinking he had subdued Him.

However, the voice that echoed in the hall made him feel as if he had fallen into an ice cellar, his body becoming stiff.

"Sigh, my friend, I really didn't expect you to threaten me. I really didn't expect it."

"Think of how pleasant our previous cooperation was. I really don't want to kill you right now; that wouldn't help my plan at all, and it might even cause some small trouble."

The burly man shuddered, snapping back to reality, and realized that only the two of them were in the hall at this moment.

If what He said was true, then he was truly in a hopeless situation where heaven wouldn't respond and the earth wouldn't answer.

Now, the burly man felt deep regret in his heart—not for threatening Him, but for not bringing his Family's personal guard unit when he came in.

The burly man's thoughts raced, and a stiff smile appeared on his face.

"Fr... friend, you're joking, right? I was just joking earlier. Don't take it seriously. Rest assured, I..."

"Hehe, joking? No, as a great deity, how could I joke with a mere Mortal like you? What I said just now was serious."

Before the burly man could finish his sentence, the voice in the darkness sounded again, cutting him off.

At this moment, even the stiff smile on the burly man's face could no longer be maintained. He looked at the statue with a gloomy expression, thinking in his heart about how to escape this disaster.

"All of you, come out and see your respectful Baron off for me."

"Clatter—clatter—"

As this voice sounded from the darkness, a dull sound of footsteps suddenly echoed in the hall.

Soldiers clad in heavy armor walked out from the darkness, holding long swords as they surrounded Baron Veilla, their sword tips pointed directly at his neck.

Baron Veilla looked at the dozen or so soldiers surrounding him with swords raised, his face full of disbelief, and shouted angrily.

"What are you doing?! I am Baron Veilla, your master! Is this how you treat your master?!"

"I order you now to turn your swords around and point them at that evil devil!"

However, those dozen or so soldiers remained indifferent to Veilla's shouting, making no move at all.

Seeing this, Veilla shouted: "What did you do to them? Why have they become like this?!"

Veilla recognized these dozen or so soldiers; they were his personal guards who protected him and were loyal to him.

But why had they turned into such strangers that he didn't even recognize them? What on earth was going on?!

The look in Veilla's eyes as he gazed at the statue was mixed with anger, confusion, and shock.

The voice in the darkness seemed very satisfied with the expression Veilla was showing, and its tone became cheerful.

"Oh, my friend, I must say, the personal guards under your command are truly worthy of the great effort you spent cultivating them. They are truly excellent."

"I didn't even need to expend much effort to turn them into war machines; they are incomparably more useful than those wanderers!"

"However, their will is also much stronger than those wanderers, which cost me quite a bit of effort."

"You wouldn't know, but when these soldiers were being transformed by me, they were still worried about you, hahaha..."

Hearing this, Veilla's heart trembled, and he gritted his teeth: "Devil, you devil, how could you do this? I curse you to a miserable death!"
