30: Chapter 30 Elena
Arriving at Isolde's spire, Byron pushed open the door and walked straight in.
As soon as he stepped inside, Byron heard a boisterous laugh.
"Colin, you've finally promoted to a Second-Rank Wizard Apprentice. I thought you were going to be stuck at the Third-Rank Wizard Apprentice stage for the rest of your life!"
Looking up, he saw a blonde woman with a graceful, tall figure, curvaceous, and exquisite features sitting on the sofa, slapping her thigh with very boisterous behavior.
Due to the vigorous movement, her ample chest bounced along, looking extremely eye-catching.
This person was none other than Elena, Byron's senior.
The two had met previously in the mentor's Laboratory, and that was how they got to know each other.
Her personality was just like her voice, extremely boisterous, so much so that even Byron found it hard to handle.
At this moment, Colin, sitting opposite Elena, wore a bitter smile as he listened to her teasing, but he did not retort, nor did he dare to.
This was because Elena was much stronger than him; she was a Third-Rank Wizard Apprentice.
Not to mention that her favorite thing to do was to drag people in to be her sparring partners, which, to put it bluntly, meant letting the other person get beaten up one-sidedly, all while calling it 'training practical combat skills.'
When Colin saw Byron push the door open and enter, his eyes lit up as if he had seen a savior, and he waved his arms at Byron with an excited expression.
"Byron, you're here too? Come over and sit!"
As he spoke, Colin patted the sofa beside him, signaling for Byron to sit there.
At the same time, Elena, who had her back to Byron, turned her head to look at him.
Seeing this, Byron's face soured.
He knew his plan to sneak up had been ruined.
There was no help for it; under the gaze of the two, Byron couldn't leave, so he could only bite the bullet and walk toward them.
But before he could even reach Colin, Elena grabbed him and pulled him down to sit beside her.
Elena even boldly threw her arm around Byron, leaning almost half her body against him.
At this moment, Byron could clearly feel the warm, soft sensation and the immense, oppressive weight coming from his shoulder.
Elena noticed the potion Byron was holding and asked curiously, "Byron, why are you carrying a vial of potion when coming to see the mentor?"
As she said this, she suddenly realized something, her emerald eyes drawing closer.
"Could it be... that you brewed this potion?"
Once these words were out, Colin also turned his head to look at Byron with a surprised expression, his eyes filled with inquiry.
Being stared at by the two, Byron nodded calmly: "This potion was indeed successfully brewed by me just now. As soon as it was done, I thought of asking the mentor for her critique, so I rushed over here."
Hearing Byron say this, a look of envy appeared in Colin's eyes.
If he remembered correctly, it was a year and a half after he started learning Potion Making that he successfully brewed his first potion.
Yet Byron had managed to succeed only a few months after starting Potion Making, which clearly indicated that he had extremely high Aptitude in Potionology.
However, he was only envious, because there was someone with even worse Aptitude than him—Elena, who had learned for a full two and a half years before succeeding.
From then on, the mentor had completely given up on Elena, no longer urging her to study Potionology and letting her do what she liked.
At this moment, Elena, far from feeling any jealousy or resentment, laughed loudly and patted Byron's shoulder.
"Byron, you're impressive! To be able to successfully brew a potion in such a short time, you'll definitely be able to become a formal Potion Master in the future."
"So, in the future, when your senior needs potions, I'll have to trouble you. You can't refuse then!"
Feeling the pain in his shoulder, Byron winced and nodded: "Don't worry, Senior, I'll definitely be at your beck and call."
Hearing this, Elena laughed even more heartily.
"Good, I really didn't misjudge you, Byron. If anyone in your cohort at the academy dares to give you trouble in the future, tell me, and I'll stand up for you!"
Just then, a cold, clear voice suddenly rang out: "Elena, what happened to make you so happy?"
Hearing this voice, Elena, who had been extremely boisterous, stopped laughing abruptly.
She quickly stood up with Byron, now shrinking her head like a quail, and answered in a low voice.
"Men... Mentor, why are you here?"
Isolde walked down from the second floor with a graceful gait, sat on the sofa, and her cold, clear eyes swept over Elena.
"Why? Am I not allowed to come down?"
Hearing this, Elena was like a frightened rabbit, hurriedly going to Isolde's side and fawning: "You can, you can, Mentor, you can definitely come down."
Watching Elena's demeanor, which was in stark contrast to before, Byron and Colin exchanged a glance, secretly suppressing the laughter in their hearts.
Isolde waved her hand: "Enough, you still haven't said what you were talking about just now."
Because of the worry that experiments would be disturbed, almost all Wizard Laboratories would be set up with many layers of Magic Arrays, among which there were naturally arrays to isolate sound.
Facing the mentor, Elena dared not be mischievous and honestly recounted what had just happened, including Colin's promotion and Byron's success.
After listening to Elena's words, Isolde's eyes brightened slightly.
After first praising Colin, she turned her head to look at Byron: "Show me the potion you brewed."
Seeing this, Byron didn't dare to delay and hurriedly handed the potion he was holding to Isolde.
Taking the potion, Isolde gently shook the test tube and observed its color.
Then she opened the wooden stopper, held it to her nose, sniffed it lightly, and nodded slightly.
"Not bad. Although the potion's purity is a bit lacking, it can already be called a successful potion."
Hearing this, Byron wore a smile on his face, appropriately suppressing his excitement.
"This is all thanks to the mentor's guidance; otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to successfully brew a potion so quickly."
Regarding Byron's praise this time, Isolde did not deny it and accepted it calmly.
"Byron, I am currently teaching four students, including you, but in terms of Aptitude for Potionology, you are the best. I hope you can keep at it and succeed in becoming a formal Potion Master."
Byron nodded: "I will work hard, Mentor."
To this, Isolde didn't say much more and changed the subject.
"Byron, since you are able to successfully brew potions, it means you have successfully entered the field. In that case, it is time for you to learn higher-level Potionology knowledge."
Hearing this, Byron's eyes lit up; he was just about to bring this up.
He hadn't expected the mentor to bring it up before he even could.
It was like being handed a pillow just when he wanted to sleep.
In fact, Byron had long ago mastered most of the basic knowledge through various channels and wanted to acquire the subsequent higher-level knowledge.
And he had also tried to search for higher-level knowledge like Potionology through places like the Market and the Library.
But he soon gave up on that.
The problem didn't lie with these places.
These places not only had higher-level knowledge, but it was also quite abundant.
The problem lay precisely with Byron himself.
And it wasn't because he was too poor and didn't have enough magic stones to buy it.
It was that he couldn't explain clearly where he had gotten so many magic stones from.
Therefore, he could only wait. Only after the fact that he could brew potions spread from Isolde could he openly and honestly go to purchase that higher-level knowledge.
Meanwhile, when Colin and Elena heard this, the looks they gave Byron were full of envy, wishing they could take his place.
Not for the higher-level knowledge, but for the mentor's favor.
