18: Chapter 18 First-Class Wizard Apprentice
Early the next morning.
After finishing their cleaning, Byron and Colin walked out of the Laboratory of Mentor Isolde together, squinting slightly at the sun outside.
"Byron, what are you planning to do later? How about we go stroll through the Market together?"
Colin stretched, turned his head, and asked Byron.
Byron shook his head. "No, I'm planning to go to the teaching area to register for my courses, and then head to the Library. Care to join me?"
Colin: "Forget it, I'll just go to the Market and see if I can buy the Materials I need."
Byron: "Alright, then I'll be off. See you this afternoon."
With that, he waved goodbye to Colin and headed toward the teaching area.
...
Teaching area plaza.
Byron didn't linger and headed straight for the Academic Affairs Office.
The basic courses offered by the mentors at the Dark Eclipse Wizard Academy were coordinated by the Academic Affairs Office, which was also responsible for student course registration.
Before he even entered the teaching building, Byron keenly spotted a familiar, tall figure.
He really hadn't expected such a coincidence.
"Eliza, are you here to select courses too? Where's Gray?"
A well-tailored gray robe was worn by Eliza, making her appear exceptionally tall.
Upon seeing Byron, a smile appeared on Eliza's face. "I just finished selecting my courses and was about to head back to the dormitory to rest."
"As for Gray, I heard he's busy in his mentor's alchemy Laboratory all day long, to the point where he doesn't even have time to sleep."
Hearing this, Byron clicked his tongue in secret. This Alchemy Dept. Mentor Edgar Thorne was truly something; it would be a waste not to run a factory. If he were in his previous life, he'd at least be a national entrepreneur.
Being exploited like this right after starting, Gray's future life of slave labor was already easy to imagine. He sincerely hoped Gray could be liberated soon.
"Alright then, I'll go select my courses." Byron waved goodbye.
Eliza thought for a moment and said with a smile, "Let's go together. I'm free anyway, and I can help you with some references to save some time."
Byron: "Th—then thank you very much."
Byron had originally wanted to decline, but after a second thought, he agreed.
There was nothing to hide regarding course selection.
Besides, when selecting courses later, he might actually need Eliza's help for reference.
...
The two walked into the Academic Affairs Office together. Under Eliza's guidance, Byron quickly entered the course selection process.
There weren't many new basic courses, but there were over a dozen.
For example, 'Meditation Introductory: Mental Energy Guidance,' 'Hundred Interpretations of Basic Runes,' 'Introduction to Energy Shaping,' 'Common Sense and Sensing of Elements,' 'Nature of Magic Power and Basic Energy Theory,' and so on.
Looking at these courses, Byron was very envious. He needed all this knowledge; he wanted to learn them all.
Unfortunately, each person could only choose three courses at a time, and one could only study other courses after passing the current ones.
Now, thinking about this requirement, Byron cursed inwardly. He really didn't know which bastard came up with this trick. It was damn annoying; how much time would this waste him?
However, the academy's rules were as they were, and for now, he had to obediently comply.
"Eliza, do you have any recommendations?" Byron turned to ask Eliza.
Eliza didn't feign modesty. "I chose 'Nature of Magic Power and Basic Energy Theory,' 'Hundred Interpretations of Basic Runes,' and 'Common Sense and Sensing of Elements'—these three courses focus on the basics. You can use them as a reference."
Byron nodded slightly upon hearing this, looked back at the courses, and sighed inwardly.
But there were no courses offered by Mentor Isolde, otherwise he would have chosen hers.
But it didn't matter; there would be plenty of opportunities in the future.
'Omniscience, help me analyze these courses.'
[Analysis complete.]
['General Theory of Magic Power Nature': Magic power origin, properties, flow, and coupling of Mental Energy and magic power.]
['Basics of Spell Model Construction': Model structure, nodes, circuits, stability, and backlash.]
['Hundred Interpretations of Basic Runes': Meanings, drawing methods, and magic power flow of the 100 most commonly used basic runes.]
['Common Sense and Sensing of Elements': Basic characteristics of fire, water, wind, earth, light, darkness, and space, and affinity judgment.]
[ ... ]
After much deliberation, Byron finally chose the same courses as Eliza.
There were several reasons why he chose the same ones as Eliza.
Firstly, Eliza really had elders backing her, so she definitely knew more information than he did.
Secondly, it was because he hadn't even become a Wizard Apprentice yet, so there was no need to overthink things; he just needed to lay a good foundation first.
The most important point was that he had the Eye of Omniscience. No matter which course he studied first, he didn't have to worry about failing or being unable to proceed.
After all, his goal was to finish learning all the basic courses offered by all the mentors.
Seeing that Byron chose the same courses as her, Eliza gave him a surprised look, but a smile quickly appeared on the corner of her mouth.
Handing the course selection form to the staff and receiving a course schedule, it was all done.
After finishing all this, the two walked toward the dormitory together.
...
Time passed in a flash, and in the blink of an eye, over a month had passed.
During this month, Byron's activities were very regular, basically limited to a few places.
Early in the morning after cleaning, if he had classes, he would attend them; if not, he would stay soaked in the Library until the afternoon when he went to buy and process Materials.
Now, Byron could barely manage to process some low-end Materials on his own. With two people working at the same time, the processing time for Materials was greatly shortened.
At night, upon returning to the dormitory, he would engrave runes in the Meditation room to improve his Mental Energy. Then, after reaching his limit, he would sleep until the next day and repeat the previous day's life.
Although such days were a bit boring, he couldn't resist the fact that he could go to the Library every day for free!
Although most of the free knowledge in the Library consisted of books like 'Basic Grammar of Common Language' or 'Brief History of the Continent,' which contained no wizard knowledge or only a small amount.
But as the saying goes, free is enough to conquer everything!
Isn't getting something for free great?
That night, Byron sat cross-legged in the Meditation room, eyes slightly closed, with only his chest slowly rising and falling as he exhaled gas through his nose.
At this moment, Byron was breaking through to become a First-Rank Wizard Apprentice!
It had been more than half a month since Eliza broke through to become a First-Rank Apprentice.
To avoid causing too much of a stir, Byron had been painstakingly restraining himself.
Actually, if he hadn't restrained himself, he could have broken through before Eliza, but small impatience spoils great plans.
Byron had been painstakingly restraining himself until now.
This was the time node when someone with top-tier third-rank Aptitude could break through.
At this moment, Byron was only one Meditation Rune engraving away from becoming a First-Rank Wizard Apprentice.
As for the Mental Energy requirement, he had already reached it long ago.
He didn't know how much time had passed when the specks of light surrounding Byron seemed to be drawn by some kind of suction force, all rushing toward his body like moths to a flame.
At this very moment, the air around Byron also began to twist inexplicably, which was extremely eerie.
"Hoo——"
As a light exhale sounded, the silence of the Meditation room was broken.
At the same time, Byron slowly opened his eyes, a flash of brilliance passing through them.
Meanwhile, a smile slowly spread across Byron's cheeks.
At this moment, Byron wished he could look up to the sky and roar to vent the emotions in his heart.
Having Transmigrated for so long, he had finally become a wizard and now had the ability to protect himself!
