111: Chapter 111 I know a way...

The original lord of the castle, Veilla, had died at the hands of the God of War, and now the castle had just fallen under the God of War's control.

But Veilla was, after all, the true master of this castle. Although he was dead, he had managed it for such a long time that there must be some loyalists left.

If he were to spread the news that Veilla had died at the hands of the God of War, the castle would surely fall into chaos.

In this way, he could divert some of the God of War's energy and reduce the pressure for when he eventually dealt with the God of War himself.

Although it might not be much, perhaps even negligible, it was still better than nothing.

As for what Mentor Isolde had said—to call her if he encountered a deity and leave it to her to handle—

Byron believed this. After all, he could see that Mentor Isolde was also very covetous of this deity and did not want to lose it.

Byron even suspected that if Mentor Isolde hadn't been unable to arrive in time, she would have solved everything herself without him needing to lift a finger.

And now, although she could not come over, she was surely waiting for his call at any moment.

However, the difficulties encountered before meeting the deity still needed to be solved by himself.

When he actually met the God of War, he might still need to hold out for a few seconds to give Mentor Isolde time to react.

This period would be the most dangerous time for Byron, so his most important goal right now was to survive these few seconds without dying, or even without sustaining serious injuries, which would count as a victory.

Thinking of this, Byron decided to treat this idea as one of his auxiliary plans; as for whether to use it, that would depend on whether the actual situation allowed it.

After all, he was not sure if, under the God of War's purge, there were still any loyalists left for a medieval noble like Veilla.

Having thought this through, Byron ignored the emotions of the three people and continued to ask.

"What are the abilities of that God of War?"

Hearing Byron's voice, the three people, who had been somewhat listless, trembled. Their negative emotions vanished instantly, and they returned to their previous state of scrambling to answer Byron's questions.

"That God of War can bestow Divine Power upon people, and those granted Divine Power can use all sorts of magical abilities just like a wizard!"

"And it was only after seeing this ability of the God of War that Veilla agreed to cooperate with him."

"I have seen with my own eyes the God of War draining the life force of those who praised him; those people aged significantly in an instant after being drained by the God of War!"

"I heard someone say that he saw with his own eyes that the God of War..."

Listening to the three of them chatter, Byron listened while mentally extracting and recording the God of War's abilities from their words.

Bestowing Divine Power; he had seen this in Yaze and the other one...

Draining life force; this was to be determined. He had never heard of any deity draining life force; what they needed was faith.

As for why those who were drained aged instantly, that would require asking what exactly was contained within that faith, and whether it might include a portion of the believer's life.

He was, after all, called the God of War. If he couldn't even train an army, then what kind of war was he fighting? He might as well surrender immediately.

Forging weapons, healing injuries...

Although this God of War had many abilities, they all revolved around the concept of war and did not exceed it by much.

Is this what it means to be a deity? How rigid.

As the three of them continued to speak, Byron formed a relatively accurate impression of the God of War's abilities in his mind, unlike the vague one he had before.

When the three of them stopped speaking, Byron ceased his recording and continued to ask: "Then do you know how many people in the castle worship this God of War?"

"I know this too. Most of the soldiers under Veilla have been bewitched by him and have become his followers."

"Besides that, there are the refugees Veilla gathered. A large portion of them spend all day praising the God of War, but a small portion have received the God of War's blessing and have become warriors who possess magical abilities..."

"..."

"Then do you know where the God of War usually stays?"

"Generally speaking, he stays in the church that Veilla built for him. He doesn't go out, and even if he does, it's only for a short while; he never stays out for long..."

"Then what abilities do the warriors under the God of War have..."

"..."

Byron's questions became faster and faster, and the three of them had to take turns answering just to barely keep up with his rhythm.

"Now, how many loyalists are still loyal to Veilla?"

"Besides the retainers in the castle, plus the soldiers stationed in the various villages on his fief, there should still be several hundred people."

"Then do you know of any way to bypass the soldiers' watch and enter the castle, or even the church where the God of War is?"

Once these words were spoken, Byron narrowed his eyes slightly, looked at the three of them, and waited for their answer.

When the three of them heard this, their expressions froze, but then, as if they had thought of something, they immediately spoke up without any hesitation.

"Lord Wizard, I know of a secret passage. Although it is a bit dirty, it is safe and can lead directly from inside the mountain to the area near the interior of the castle!"

"My Lord, I know of a secret passage that can be entered from the hill next to the castle, leading directly to where my Family is located inside the castle. That place is not far from Baron Veilla's residence."

"..."

Listening to what the three of them said, Byron's eyelids couldn't help but twitch slightly. These guys were truly worthy of being nobles; they really were reckless!

After the three of them heard what the others had said, they all looked at each other in shock.

They hadn't expected that the other thick-browed, big-eyed guys had actually secretly dug secret passages too, and the most terrifying part was that they hadn't known about it themselves.

What did he want to do?!

If Byron hadn't still been there and the occasion hadn't been inappropriate, they probably would have already started cursing at each other.

One had to know that for a sturdy castle, the easiest place to breach was from the inside.

If someone were to attack, that scene would be quite something to behold.

However, Byron was in the same state at this moment.

And just as Byron was pondering which secret passage to choose to enter the castle, the noble who had previously revealed that Veilla was dead gritted his teeth and spoke again.

"My Lord, I know of another secret passage!"

Upon hearing this, Byron looked at the man and asked with interest: "Oh, what other secret passage do you know of?"

Now that there were already so many secret passages, why didn't Byron tell the man to shut up, and instead show such an interested expression?

It was precisely because each of the three people had mentioned one secret passage, and now someone was saying they knew of yet another one, that it piqued Byron's interest.

Because the secret passage this person was about to reveal must be more important than what he had said before, or even what the other two had said.

Byron guessed that the secret passage about to be revealed might even have been dug by Baron Veilla's Family.

After all, the person speaking now had an extraordinary relationship with Baron Veilla.
